I have a file with an xz extension, ubuntu-19.10-preinstalled-server-arm64+raspi3.img.xz. How do you get the .img out of it?
My goal is to flash the file on an SD card. I want to use www.etcher.io I finally got it to work, but etcher will only handle .iso and .img files.
I am trying to follow this tutorial on how to download packages offline but there is a caveat; you have to already have Synaptic install on the offline device. My goal is to install wine. I am having a hard time with my WIFI on my new computer. It works fine on Windows, not so much on the Ubuntu side. At any rate, I bought a USB for detecting WIFI in hopes that this will help but it is a Windows program. I have managed to install the programs on the computer, I just don't know what do do make that productive.[
]I tried putting all of the files in here:
mv *.deb synaptic.sh /var/cache/apt/archives
I also changed directories at this point.
cd /var/cache/apt/archives
But I ran into trouble when I attempted to install the program like so.
sudo apt install synaptic
At the very top it reads that synaptic is installed, but there are no dependencies.

I have been looking at several websites to try and set up wifi on Ubuntu with no success. OK, this website talks about the post 18.04 way. But how do you set it up after that version? I saw this website as well, and it talks about some of the differences but I still haven't been successful yet. Here are some things I have tried to do.

I have also just tried to connect using the mouse. This is what I see when I go to the WIFI in settings:
For the no adapter issue, this Youtube video looked promising.
I gave this command.
#apt-get remove --purge bcmwl-kernel-source
But unfortunately, it didn't work. This is the output:

Same problem, too much information and I couldn't post it. In reading some of this information. It said something was blocked because I used secureboot when I downloaded the OS. I will be honest, I don't think I know what secureboot is.I hope this information helps.

I bought a sound card recently. I can get sound of the computer, except when I plug in the MIDI connection. My goal is to connect with Zynaddsubfx. Here are some screenshots of my settings on Qjackctl.
And here are some volume settings.
I know that pnp is the setting I want because it doesn't show when it's unplugged. I did find one thing curious. Here is another screenshot of qjacktl.
As you can see from the picture above, there is a MIDI setting too. I am sure that somehow it has something to do with jack. I would appreciate any help or feedback, thank you very much.
I had Windows on this Computer for a while but I have decided to go back to Ubuntu. However, I'm having trouble installing the operating system. I always get this same error:

my mouse is not doing everything that it used to on google chrome and I don't know why. Here is a screenshot of the main areas I am having trouble with:
When I click on the tabs, it's supposed to open the webpage, but instead it closes the page entirely. Also it doesn't click sometimes and used to work just fine. I found this code, but it is a work around because I have to do it every time:
metacity --replace &
Then when I am done, have to go back to compiz to see my applications on the sidebar again:
compiz --replace &
It helps make the mouse click though, so I thought I would share that. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you all in advance, I appreciate your assistance.
This is another question about some software called chirp. It is an amateur radio program for programming frequencies into your radio. If I type :
cd /dev
I change directories. From here I type:
ls
And I get this screenshot.
Then I type clear and plug the device in to the USB port. After this I put this I repeat the command:
ls
And as you can see, I can see /dev/ttyUSB0 now when I couldn't before. So the computer knows that is is there, but it doesn't recognize it when I start up chirp on this particular port. Per the instructions, I

I did find one last clue from the last answer. After typing this command:
dmesg | grep tty
I discovered that all of them have different numbers connected to them.
I don't know why, but I couldn't get a screen shot of the other two. However, this is the information that I saw:

Update: Now I have two working ports and the one that isn't working has moved back to the right hand side of the computer. The number value for this port is USB_7-1. Again, thank you in advance for all of your help.
I have noticed that when grub boots up I don't get a black screen on my monitor. I want to make it so that it will show every time I boot, not just when I turn it off manually and then turn it on again. Thank you in advance for your help.
I know that Linux is an operating system built on text files. What I would like to do is create a file using vi of all the various commands I have learned. That way I could find each individual command very easily using the / in vi. But I only want to do this if it doesn't change the way that my computer functions. Would this be a good idea?
I upgraded to 14.04 and now gstreamer is not working. What I am trying to accomplish is to hear the audio input on my computer coming from a ham radio. This is the command that I am using: gst-launch pulserc ! pulseink. This is the error message that I am receiving:
ERROR: pipeline could not be constructed: no element "pulserc". I think that I may be missing some plugins. I have been trying to investigate and found this troubleshooting website.
In it, I found this information. First I downloaded gstreamer-properties with sudo apt-get install gnome-media. Then I typed gstreamer-properties and a configuration page came up. 
With these configurations I clicked on "test" and was able to hear what was coming from the radio through the computer. But I am still coming up with the same problem when typing gst-launch pulserc ! pulseink. I found another clue- pulseink also gets a "no element" error message. Thank you again everyone for all of your help, I appreciate it.
I am trying to export a wav format file to an mp3 format in audacity, but when it's done exporting all that is does is make this screaching sound for about two seconds and then there is no sound at all. I have learned so much from frequent use of this site, thank you in advance for all of your help.
xdemorse is a morse code decoding software. But I don't know how to configure it. This is what the main window looks like:

In a Ubuntu forum, I was researching on how to open wine programs. I found some instructions that may be useful. I can successfully download the programs, but I don't know how to open them. Here the instructions.

I recently bought this micro sd card, and I think I am having trouble formating it. In my mp3 player, it says card error. So I took it to the computer. After clicking on the file icon, I clicked on the memory card. 
Then, after clicking on it get this error message.

I installed gparted but I am still having trouble. I got rid of the exclamation point though, and I think I found a clue. I got a new error message after clicking on the file system. 
Chirp is an amateur radio program that will help program your radio from a computer. My radio is a Wouxun and the module is a KG-UV3D.The documentation says that is will work on this module, but there is not a setting for it so I got as close as I could. The cable looks like this:
What I am trying to do is follow the instructions but I keep getting stuck. First, you click on the Radio link. Next, I click Download from Radio. From there I get this picture.
After clicking ok, I get this error message:
could not open port /dev/ttyS0: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/dev/ttyS0'

I found a script on the internet for installing zynaddsubfx presets but when I tried to use it on the command line I wasn't able to run it. Here is where I get stuck:
emerge -s zynaddsubfx.
This is what it says:
No command 'emerge' found, did you mean: command 'vmerge' from package 'util-vserver' (universe)

I just recently bought a laptop. It has 5.2 GB of RAM and 624.2 GB on the hard drive. However, after only a few minutes of playing into my MIDI keyboard I get an error message saying that "This disk system on your computer was not able to keep up with Ardour. Specifically, it failed to write data to the disk quickly enough to keep up with the recording." Is there a way that I can fix this?
I am tying to use zynaddsubfx with qjackctl and MIDI. I have it connected, and the configurations are set. This is what I see when I open zynaddsubfx:
Default I/O did not initialize. Defaulting to NULL backend.
What does this mean and how do I fix this?
we bought a CrashPlan-Install program for backing up the computer. Since I am still learning about Ubuntu, I don't know how to run the installer. These are the only instructions that I have- To install CrashPlan run the installer in this directory:
./install.sh
Does this mean I need to create the directory? I know how to do that, but if that is the case where (or how) do you run the installer?
I am trying to save a file in Zynaddsubfx so that I can record a MIDI file. Does anyone know how to do that? Additionally, how do you open the file once it is saved?
