I have just one Ubunutu 22.04 server for person use. Would like to get ESM updates just to be safe.
But my countless attempts at contacting Ubuntu through their ESM website are as worthless as screaming into the void.
So I thought there might be another way to enable/get ESM.
On the other hand, maybe for one person server, ESM isn't really as important as I might think? Maybe I can just stop the notifications?
I have a situation where I need to (almost)completely copy my Ubuntu HD to an external HD. The biggest problem I and encountering is that there are an extremely large number of files that won't copy for various reasons.
If I could get rsync to write only the errors it encounters to a log file, then I could use that file to create bash file to get me further along. By errors I mean any situation where a file won't copy, regardless of reason.
When I use the log option the log file is too large as it contains info on every file. So large I am unable to even open it.
rsync /source/ /dest/ --log-file=error.log
When I tried the quiet option outputing the screen to a file, the log file I get is empty.
rsync -q /source/ /dest/ > error.log
Is there anyway to get rsync to write to a file, only the errors it has encountered?
I was, and still am encountering an intermittent problem when trying to log onto my home Ubuntu server, via SSH or FIleZilla, using its LAN address. Sometimes that fails. So what I have to do is one of the following two things:
After using either of the above methods I can log on to my server via its LAN address.
I tried looking at it from the view that there might be conflicting IP addresses. So I've double checked that nothing else has that address, plus I gave the Ubuntu server a reserved IP address that is way above anything else on my LAN. As well, I do only have one router.
Still no permanent fix.
I can't find the link, but remember reading that the WiFi power saving mode can be a causing factor here.
The farthest I've gone here is running:
sudo nano /etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/default-wifi-powersave-on.conf
so that the file reads:
[connection]
wifi.powersave = 2
Yet that does not fixed this intermittent error.
There are way too few items on my LAN, to my knowledge, and using nmap, that I do believe it could be the power saving mode.
Does anyone have any knowledge in this area?
I have many bash files to run when I sit down for a programming session.
I was hoping that there was an actual command to open a new terminal from the terminal command line. Not looking to do this via keyboard shortcuts.

So within my .htaccess I redirect a non-existent directory to a 3rd party server in this manner, without a glitch.
Redirect 301 /clouds www.ibm.com/cloud/free
However, when I paste my link www.example.com/clouds in Twitter, FB, or other social media, it's just the link. If I paste the destination directory in the same social media page, any additional metadata pops up instead of a just a plain old link. See attached image
I've also read that different sites, read different metadata.
So is there any method to either get the tags, or do a redirect for the tags as well? Or is this something I have to wait for search engine crawlers to do when they finally hit my site?
I cannot SSH into my server, but I can view all its virtual webpages, FTP in, etc.
At home, I have an Ubuntu 18.04 server, a Mac, and my iPhone.
I am constantly ssh-ing into the ubuntu server from all my devices, via the internal IP address 192.X.X.X and my real-world IP address. I have confirmed that my router passes ports 20 thru 22 to the server via its reserved internal IP address.
Suddenly, I cannot ssh into the server via my Mac. Neither from the internal nor external IP address.
My iPhone can ssh into the server via the local IP address only.
Know very little about ubuntu/linix. This server has been running for over a year, and I just can't figure how to figure out where my problem is, nor fix it.
The only hint I have is that in the auth.log it shows my iPhone logging in via the local IP. And the only failures I see in auth.log is many attempts from the outside world.
I wonder if someone got in and broke something?
Could someone give me a clue of where to start, or what I should look for?
