Lexar NM790 4TB SSD keeps crashing my fresh install of Ubuntu 24.04

I recently upgraded my SSD on my laptop. The SSD is a 4TB Lexar NM790. I used a similar 2 TB drive in another Lenovo laptop without issue.

Dell XPS 15 7590 Manufacturer firmware is fully patched. I am unaware of any firmware updates for the SSD.

I just upgraded my Ubuntu 22.04 boxes to 23.10 and then to 24.04.

They stopped resolving DNS queries.

They are using systemd-resolved and resolvconf.

I am trying install docker from there instructions: https://linuxconfig.org/how-to-install-docker-on-ubuntu-18-04-bionic-beaver

I am running the command:

$ sudo curl -fsSL https://download.docker.com/linux/ubuntu/gpg | sudo apt-key add -

And get:

I wanted to change my desktop environment (DE) to cinnamon because it was way faster on my test computer.

I ran the command: apt-get install cinnamon-desktop-environment

Rebooted.

Changed the DE to Cinnamon.

Put my password in, and then it kicked me back into the greeter.

When I looked at the logs, I found this error message:

Googling around for this error message did not yield very much help.

Ubuntu repositories have monodevelop 5 in them.

The current version version of monodevelop is version 7.

How do I install version 7?

I'm using Btrfs, for better or worse. It is a plain btrfs partition with no compression or RAID, nor do I have any snapshots; it is a a simple btrfs partition that the OS is reporting with quite a bit of space free, but I am getting out of space errors when running various operations such as updates.

The operating system tools such as df report lots of space free:

I later found the btrfs tool to show information about the btrfs volumes:

/dev/sda5 is 286GB used with as size of 354GB. Then says 350GB used.

/dev/sda5 is mounted as /

How do I get access to the ~60GB that it says are free, but are not?

I am using modern versions of Ubuntu that use network-manager, and I would like release and renew my network settings through the commandline.

In the olden days when Ubuntu used the interfaces file, I would simply do: sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart but now that no longer works.

I am looking for functionality similar to Windows' ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew.

How can I release and renew network settings from the commandline interface?

Ubuntu Server 16.04 is now released.

I have Ubuntu (server) 14.04.4 LTS, but when I try to do a do-release-upgrade it tells me that there are no upgrades available.

1. Why?

2. How can I upgrade my server so I get the new awesomeness?

Sometimes I download a deb, say for Google Chrome, or the Github atom.io editor.

I then run sudo dpkg -i <package>.deb

I then get the error: Errors were encountered while processing: ...

Which looks like it is missing dependancies.

How do I fix missing dependancies from a manual package install?

I just upgraded my test and development VM to 15.10, and I lost my network device eth0.

ifconfig just reports the loopback device adapter, yet lspci reports the Intel network controller is there.

I have recently upgraded my machines to Kubuntu 14.04, and it seems that ibus is (partially) broken for selecting the GB (UK) default keyboard. The closest keyboard that I have to choose from is English - English (UK, extended WinKeys) which means that the back-tick or open single quote key on the left needs to be pressed twice in order to the the character.

Right click (leftmost) icon keyboard with world picture on it:

Brings up this menu:

But if I go into:

• System Settings
• Hardware
• Input Devices
• Keyboard
• Layouts
• Check Configure layouts
• add, I can configure a GB Default layout.

This article suggest to remove ibus:

xubuntu 14.04 keyboard layout uk gb

Is this solution okay for KDE / Kubuntu?
