Apt suddenly said the packages libdaxctl1 libndctl6 libpmem1 are no longer needed and should be autoremoved.

these packages all sound really important. so I set them to manually installed.

can someone help me find what packages depended on them to no longer need them or what they have been replaced with? I am on kubuntu 24.04.

I need to feed apt a group of packages at a time.

I need to know how to do the following psuedo code in a bash function:

for every 5 packages in package list {
    apt install -y 5 packages ;
    sleep 10
}

Edit: the reason I need to do this is that, during setup stage, the daemon server throws an error and causes a timeout if there is more than 5 packages. this leads to most packages having broken installations. I would have to run apt install 40 times due to the large number of installs. that is why I ask this question.

I tried to install all freedict packages at once and it kept timing out every five dictionaries.

is there anyway to rememdy this? for example after installing every 5 packages, give apt a timeout.

EDIT: I do not think trying a different mirror is gonna help.

when I try to install more than 5 freedict packages, there is an error from dict daemon server saying I am making too many changes too fast.

I need a way to tell apt to install packages not all at once. either through batches of installation or through waiting between unpacking and setting up packages. the solution does not have to be apt only

I want to mask ssh so the ssh server is disabled till I need it myself. but still want to have ssh client capabilities.

I use openssh and the service is ssh.service and its alias sshd.service

I need to skip a broken url during apt update, gives error 403.

I know that the url will probably be fixed by next week but I need to apt upgrade my other packages now.

how do I skip one url during apt update so I can successfully update my list of packages in order to run apt upgrade?

Where does mpv save or log the state when using --save-position-on-quit or Shift+q?

This is used to save the exit state in order for the video to start playing from where it was left off when exiting mpv.

From my knowledge, ESM messages should not appear until 5 years into an LTS release but I am getting these messages when running apt upgrade.

I removed apt ESM hook after backing it up and the message is removed.

Why did the updates for these packages stop one year into this LTS release? I use packages like imagemagick daily.

Also, should I restore the ESM hook in case this is just an error and updates will return?

I need to see how many times users logged in.

I used last | sort | uniq -c but it gave me bad data

I need to sort them by number of times they logged in and only show username and number of time.

when I ran it recently it showed me this

should I not trust autoremove anymore? I usually run apt autoremove and clean cause it helps avoiding breaking packages during apt upgrade
