I have noticed when I connect to my home network via wifi.. I can hit speeds upwards of 13 MiB/s ... easily..
BUT when I plugin and use a Apple Ethernet -> TB2 adapter... I cannot hit more than 11 MiB/s ..
I didn't care for a while but now that my apartment got new gigabit internet.. I am starting to wonder if the dongle supports its full potential?

my system is ubuntu 20.04, I use it mainly for LXD and Juju development..
I noticed the system asking for a reboot so I obliged.. but it is not rebooting and instead when I hit [esc] to watch the log it just says this at the end

I have a older PC with mostly SATA3 connections, and wondering how best to keep it chugging along with linux for a few more years.

I am aware the board likely cannot boot off the PCIE drive.. but how to do Setup a fresh install of drives and partitions so that I can perhaps have linux mostly all installed on the NVME drive (which is significantly faster)
If this doesn't work I might just buy 2 Sata based SSDS, run them in raid 0.. and give up.. but it would be great if there is a way on a fresh install of the OS to setup this way.

I installed and removed tigervnc, but now tightvncserver complains it cannot startup... how do I create a new xvnc-session?

I am curious how am I supposed to switch to using the nvidia card on my ubuntu 20.04 setup?
on 18.04 once installed, I could just plug in and go.. seems with 20.04 it is using both iGPU and PCI-E GPU... I see the device is here, I have nvidia-smi responding with output.. but the ubuntu gnome resolution is only going up to 1920x1080.. telling me it's using the intel iGPU off my core i7 2600K

strangely, after reinstalling.. it now eroneously occupies the GPU even though I only get intel resolutions..
how do I revert so the iGPU is used 100% and the GPU is left freed ?
I am in the midst of trying testdisk to recover a borked dual boot system, and have a specific question to testdisk .. it seems it doesn't like any combos I enter of Primary & Logical labeling.. and I do not get any option to label any of my partitions extended.. any ideas why?

I know Windows can be my Primary.. so I set the following to P, but then the only good combo after that is to set Linux to Logical and Delete my Swap

Windows 10 + Ubuntu 16.04 LTS dual boot on a Lenovo Laptop.. after getting nagged about an update... I have been dumped into the grub rescue screen

My one thought so far... is that I must be using the NVIDIA GPU to paint the graphics.. and not getting to utilize ALL of the GPU for compute.. is there a way to check this? I've installed everything on both the same.. including the patches for CUDA 8.x
I'm not even clear what the issue is but it looks like the drivers are setup to use Optimus.. maybe I need to switch it into a different profile?
Idea One: I might try tomorrow is recompile tensorflow from sources.. with all CPU optimizations inside Ubuntu 16.x .. perhaps the pip install is more painful than the binary install on Windows...
Idea Two : If above does nothing, I will go into BIOS and force intel integrated graphics .. do a reinstall and try to install the noveua graphics.. kind of like this :
Seems this is an "Optimus" enabled laptop.. I cannot completely shut off the nvidia gpu for rendering, only enable hybrid mode. Perhaps I'll do a fresh install.. remove all nvidia drivers and see if I can get X working that way..?

When installing the NVIDIA display driver, be sure to:
1. not install the openGL libs (there are command line options with
driver runfile installers or CUDA runfile installers to allow this)
2. make sure not to make any changes to the xorg.conf configuration.
I created a USB boot of Ubuntu 16.04 , pop it in and see things going okay for a while.. but then after a minute of booting I get a prompt I've never seen before..
the drive is a brand new sandisk usb 3.0 16GB
any idea?? is the bios preventing me from dual booting? I checked and secureBoot is off.
