Why is it taking so long for Ubuntu budgie 18.10 to boot on my netbook ASUS X201EP with a HDD. No dual boot, only Ubuntu is installed on the netbook. Ubuntu upgraded from 18.04, no fresh install. Boot time is longer than Ubuntu 18.04.

shows that samba and NetworkManager-wait-online.service now don't start during boot so that's 1min 10.516s +3.643s and 37.538s +9.086s faster. but I still get this :

Boot time is still closed to 3 min according to systemd-analyze but with a clock I measured 2mn for the boot time, why such a difference ? because as samba and NetworkManager-wait-online.service disabled, systemd-analyzeshould show a faster boot time ?

On a Lenovo laptop, I want to upgrade from Ubuntu 18.04 to Ubuntu 18.10 (budgie).

When I select upgrade on the update manager, the dialog box disappears and nothing happens. The upgrade doesn't start.

Note- I went through the same procedure this morning on my other laptop and Ubuntu successfully upgraded.

do-release-upgrade fails to upgrade and throws this error:

Please install all available updates for your release before upgrading.

What can I do to upgrade the system successfully?

Last Firefox update 61.0b7 is in English instead of French. I checked inside synaptic and Firefox local fr language package is installed.

How can I switch to French instead of English ?

Addons page says French language could not be verified and has been disable !!! the French package was updated yesterday !

The fan of my laptop was at full speed and I saw on the terminal with TOP comand that a process "thermald" was using 100% of one of my 2 CPU. I had to reboot the laptop to get rid of that process. What is the issue ?

After upgrde from 15.10 to 16.04, I noticed my netbook fan was constantly turning at full throtle. I checked the process mnitoor and noticed KswapD0 used 100% of one core.

What is the problem ? Because of this, my netbook is slow and i'm afraid of processor overheating.

on a random basis, volume keys do not work, mute, up and down. I must relog in order to make them work again. Ubuntu 15.04.

What is the issue ?

I updated libreoffice to 4.4.3 but it freezes and cursor movement are inverted. I had to reverse back to 4.3.7 and it is OK.

Is the 4.4.3 buggy on Ubuntu 15.04 ?

is it possible to desactivate Unity launcher reveal pressure on Ubuntu 14.10. Even if I set up the reveal pressure at 0, it is still not sensitive enough and I must try several time with the mouse pointer before it appears.

When I choose shutdown option from the right top menu, Ubuntu is closing the session but coming back to the login screen. This is not a normal behaviour as Ubuntu should shutdown. But when I press the hardware shutdown button, I select shut-down on the screen and the laptop shuts down. that is fine.

Ubuntu 14.10

Main screen layout in Homebank 4.6.2 is broken et start up. If I adjust the layout, It does not retain and screen is messy when I launch the program. I trashed homebank preferences in /home/user/.config/homebank but it doesn't help.

How can I solve this ?

All of a sudden, Unity is broken on Ubuntu 14.04. After the logging screen, I can see the desktop but there are no unity panel and no top taskbar.

I tried to boot in recovery mode but I can't access the menu by holding "shift" or "esc" from boot.

How can I repair Unity ?

Note : on guest session, Unity is working.

My audio speaker is detected by the bluetooth dongle (brand integral) but it fail to pair. Note, it's OK with another usb dongle brand.

The dongle is delivered with windows drivers CD, can i install it on Ubuntu ?

I can't believe this bug has still not been solved with Ubuntu 14.04 ? On my 2 laptops, Acer and Asus, on a random basis, the keyboard layout switch from FR to EN.

This is very frustrating when you type a password and can't see the letters.

How to solve that for good ?

I can no more connect my bluetooth speakers in 13.10. It used to work before with 13.04. Bluetooth is on but I can't add a new device on the bluetooth manager. Is it broken ?

How can I update Homebank from 4.4 to 4.5. I followed the install notice on the site but it does not work.

I've just made a Live USB stick with Ubuntu 11.10 USB creator. I tried it on 2 laptops and the boot time is very long, more than 5 minutes. Is it normal?

If it is, what is the interest of having a portable OS if it take ages to boot?

With a 2GB memory stick, I reduced the persistent memory from 4 to 1GB and the boot time was faster, less than 2 minutes. I tried with an 8GB USB stick again with a persistent memory of 1GB, and the boot time is 4 minutes.

It seems that the boot time is linked with the USB memory stick and persistent memory size.

Is that true? Will the boot time be faster with a "class 8" USB memory stick?

Why can't I add a menu item in the main menu or see an item property? Is Unity the culprit ?

I am using Ubuntu 11.10.

I've just install jdownloader but i do not understand how it works. If I add it click on the jdownloader icon, nothing happens.

I installed this way

In terminal I get this:

in /home/[MyUserName]/.jdownloader, I can see a jdupdate.jar but no /config/PACKAGEMANAGER.cfg

I have Java 6.26 installed.

one month later and several extra hours lost, I still haven't managed to install JDownloader on my Ubuntu 11.10

It seems all the tutorials are outdated ! Did somebody manage ?

Just updated Banshee to 2.2.1 in Ubuntu 11.10. Miro guide is still unusable and slow, and freezes. The play button in the sound indicator menu keeps turning round and round and round!

What's the problem with banshee ?

A strange think happened in rhythmbox, after a crash, rhythmbox doesn't shows anymore in the sound menu.

If I switch to a guess session, it is OK. I tried to reinstall, but it didn't solve.
