After a mistake with aptitude command's options, I lost my kde plasma DE of my kubuntu 22.04 and the computer boots in the CLI mode just like Ubuntu server, So I had to reinstall the kde-plasma-desktop again. After installation I lost some icon fonts render in some applications. For example: 1- In Firefox's input fields of websites, While it still works in Google chrome:

Also in Konsole's Oh My Fish, powerline icons does not rendered:

Everything worked fine before that issue. but I don't know exactly what's the missing.

I have a directory contains some svg images among its contents. I list them with following ls command to save the output in a file:

ls *200px.svg > animList.js

The output file looks like:

I need the file name to be written like 'fileX-200px.svg', to easily make this files list working like JavaScript array. i.e. I need the output file to be:

'file1-200px.svg',
'file2-200px.svg',
'file3-200px.svg',
...
'fileX-200px.svg',

So at the end I just need to add something like var arr = [ at the beginning of the file and then add ]; at the end of the file to work as JavaScript array. Is there any way in Linux to control the output display of the ls command?

I changed my locale settings to English US in Kubuntu 22.04, but still some system hints in Arabic as shown in the next screenshot of console:

The installation language was English too. The only thing in Arabic is my timezone location in Cairo/Africa. However, the clock time format is changed to English US, but in the SDDM the time is still in Arabic. How could I solve this issue?

I got tired looking for a GUI tool that just read and organize Apache log files. Reading several redundant lines of the log file is a hill. I searched here and Google for a free GUI tool that performs this task but I could not find anything else SeaLion but its website has some warning hazard from FF. Any one could recommend a tool that do that even cli?

I have kubuntu20.04 the task manager does not show the loading status with some applications when starting up them such as code. Sometimes I realize that the computer is not responding but I found two instances are opened because I did not informed about its loading. However, after the application loading completed it shows its icon.

Some other applications such as FireFox it displays the loading status just after double clicking on its icon for while and then it disappear until it is completely loaded.

Is there any solution or work around?

Update:

I had to reinstall Kubuntu 20.04. It was dirty installation in which formatting of / and /boot mount points had been occurred but /home left as it is and then creating the user with the same name of the previous installation to keep home settings intact.

I think this a major drawback of Debian based distros apt. I think that it is not found for Fedora dnf or OpenSuse yum. However, I think that the usage of apt install should be preceded by apt update and even the installation from *.deb files too.

I have Kubuntu 18.04 and three buttons mouse, left, right and clickable scroll wheel. It is Genius NetScroll+. Indeed it is very old, I purchased it since the year 2002. However, I could not able to initiate horizontal scroll by clicking the scroll wheel and drag horizontally.

I have tried:

System Settings ⇒ Input Devices ⇒ Mouse

However, there is no any thing about scrolling in that configuration section.

In kubuntu 18.04 and from the Network Manager, I have tried to create new connection and I have chosen the type to be OpenVPN

After that, I have gotten the following window screenshot

How could I fill the correct connection data in the above window? In other words, What is the gateway URL/IP that I have to know, How could I get the certificates?

The following screen shot explain the issue well, in which there is no key assigned for the right alt key or alt gr. This situation cause a problem with keyboard layout switching when the current active layout is set to Arabic I could not use right alt + shift in order to switch to English, but in English layout it works fine. I have tried all Arabic variants but without success, all of its previews missing the right alt.

3rd level is not set to right alt and the issue is still the same. There is no right alt key defined in the Arabic layout!

I have Kubuntu 18.04. In the past, I had followed some procedures ( I don't remember them any more ) to use Kernel version 5.x instead of 4.x. Now, grub shows up the two kernels and both of them receive updates. However, the working kernel by default now is the 5.x.

I need to return back to the 4.x kernel to be the default kernel and keeping the 5.x.

I have tried to enter in the grub menu during booting and choosing the 4.x kernel, but it only boots in that kernel for just the current session only.

The screen shot below shows that the minimize all windows plasmoid next to the quicklaunch on the panel. I could not able to move it to the quicklaunch. I also tried to find any command or script that minimize all windows in the KDE in order to make a shortcut for it and then drag it into the quicklaunch but I could not find any thing.

Is there any way to do that?

Update:

I observed that OpenGL is the issue source. From System Settings > Display and Monitor > Compositor when I change Rendering backend to XRender from OpenGL 3.1 or OpenGL 2.0, the issue is gone away. Hence, now I need to know, how to fix the OpenGL?

A system update has been occurred today including some mesa stuff solves the issue. Now I use OpenGL 3.1 in the compositor settings without any problem. For my case, the issue is closed.

I have kubuntu18.04 and I need to know how to change the desktop icons fonts to bold:

I have tried to find any css files like those in Xfce or Gnome to modify the desktop icons font style but I could not able to find any thing in ~/.local/share/plasma/desktoptheme or ~/.local/share/plasma/look-and-feel for the current active desktop theme.

I have Toshiba Satellite L850 laptop that runs Kubuntu 18.04. I have PS2 keyboard connected to my laptop via USB through a converter bridge that connects PS2 mouse too

The keyboard and the mouse are working perfectly, but in SuperTuxKart the acceleration button (What ever its button is, i.e UP, A, etc) should be pressed and released continuously to keep acceleration using the regarded external keyboard when using the left or right direction or pressing any other key, but using the laptop's built in keyboard it works as usual, i.e keeping the UP key pressed will keep the acceleration.

I could not able to find any GUI tool that manage services in Ubuntu. I run Ubuntu as Virtual Box machine on Windows. I have tried to use System Jobs but it does not work.

I have LAMP server and I want to make some control on starting it as a service or not. I know that there are terminal commands performs the job. However, I need a GUI like those on the Windows to make things easier for the LAMP or any other service.
