I'm having trouble with disks on my machine. I'm unable to boot and currently trying to clean install Ubuntu. When I use Gparted with bootable usb disk, I can remove all partitions on my disk and when I hit apply button it says job is done but as soon as the success message disappears, it shows all the old partitions as they were before.
Update: when I use Disk utility, after hitting - button to delete any partition, nothing happens.
I'm trying to simulate Menu key press using xdotool but I'm unable to find the proper string for the key.
There is a list of X keysyms in here but Menu (or Application) key is not in the list. I'm currently using click 3 but there's a slight difference between mouse right click and Menu key.
Since I live in one of the countries with most freedom ever been presented to citizens, I'm using a VPN all the time to connect to free world. Well, this way my connection gets slower but as I grow older and older behind my desktop, I can surf the net.
But I ssh into our company server almost all the time and it does not need to go through VPN so I'm trying to handle this with a static route. I want all the traffic to go through the VPN except for a single IP address.
I try it like this:
$ sudo ip route add x.x.x.x dev wlan0
But after that, I no longer can ping the server:
$ ping x.x.x.x
PING x.x.x.x 56(84) bytes of data.

All the graphics-related functionality of my Ubuntu installation is corrupted. I have several problems but I think the root cause of all them maybe the same. Here are my problems:
gdm3. When I do so, I just get login loop and need to go back to lightdm.Edit: I checked log with journalctl -b -1 -x and found this error:
*ERROR* atombios stuck in loop for more than 5secs aborting
PS: I have Intel HD graphics + AMD Graphics on my notebook.
I have upgraded to 18.04 couple of weeks ago and today found out my currently installed HWE is deprecated.

My primary DNS Server is 4.2.2.4. Sometimes my machine cannot resolve any host name like this:
~ ping google.com
ping: unknown host google.com
But I can ping 4.2.2.4 and even lookup host names like this:
~ nslookup google.com 4.2.2.4
Server: 4.2.2.4
Address: 4.2.2.4#53
Non-authoritative answer:
Name: google.com
Address: 216.58.209.174
Restarting network-manager service solves this problem. I wonder what causes this to happen?
I ran into a weird problem. I put some env variables into .bashrc and it works as it should:
echo $HADOOP_HOME
/home/me/dist/hadoop
But the env variable is not accessible when executing bash scripts. Suppose I create /tmp/sample.sh with below content:
#! /bin/bash
echo $HADOOP_HOME
When I run above script, echoes an empty line:
/tmp/sample.sh
I am trying to install amd-driver-installer-catalyst-13.1-legacy-linux-x86.x86_64 on Ubuntu 14.04, and failing due missing /lib/modules/3.13.0-37-generic/build/include/linux/version.h. I tried to install driver forcefully with no success.
The error in /usr/share/ati/fglrx-install.log is:

I had Ubuntu 13.10 installed on my laptop. After I upgraded windows, I tried to get grub back through Boot Repair via these commands mentioned here:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:yannubuntu/boot-repair && sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install -y boot-repair && boot-repair
But when I run first command I get this error:
Cannot add PPA: 'ppa:yannubuntu/boot-repair'.
Please check that the PPA name or format is correct.
what's the problem?
I am trying to configure Hadoop and have problems configuring it. One doubt I have about network config and it's related to host info.
In /etc/hosts second line is like 127.0.1.1 slave1-machine and I know it is related to machine name. But the thing I do not know, is that what is the purpose for this line and if I remove it from the file, what will happen?
