I want to extend the sda1 to take the full unallocated size:
The steps are as the following:
Move sda2 to the right
Increase the size of sda1 to fill the space
But the thing is, I didn't get how to do so! Any help?

I'm looking for a safe option for taking an image of my machine cuz I'm in a place where I cannot risk trying anything isn't safe and the machine must be up and running. For example, clonezilla looks a good option but I haven't tried it before and I cannot risk booting from a live CD on the same machine.
On my previous post: Take an Image of a Physical Machine using VMWare Converter Standalone - Options diabled
I'm looking for a solution for the issues I came across with VMware Converter or any other suggestions. In this post I want to ask you guys what do you think of the following idea:
Creating a virtual machine of Ubuntu using VMware Workstation.
Backing up my folders of the origial server using backintime-gnome http://backintime.le-web.org/
Restorung these folders on the new VM
I need to take an image of my Ubuntu 12.04 physical machine and keep it in a hard drive. I downloaded VMWare Converter Standalone, the only version I found as tar.gz is version 4. All the newer versions come as .exe only. Anyways, I followed instructions but then at this step:
The This local machine option is disabled. I moved on with the second option writing the IP address of my local machine then at the next step, I couldn't specify a hard drive as a destination:
Even though I can do it on Windows normally:
Any idea?
UPDATE
I want to take an image of Ubuntu Desktop and store in into external hard drive (1 TB) which is mounted on /media/hdd
Later I want to install this image using VMplayer or any similar tool.
lsblk
df -h | frep /dev/
To dump: is this the right way to write the command?
sudo dd if=/dev/sda of=/media/hdd bs=1M
and what's the output file? Does it run on VMplayer? I'd appreciate more details on the steps.
I've received a warning from the authority that generated my certificate, it says that there is bug in OpenSSL and it has been found affecting versions 1.0.1.
As I understand, I have to upgrade to 1.0.1h to fix this bug.
This is the first time I deal with these stuff and I'm worried about how it will affect my server.
Do I have to restart any services? And what exactly? I have to make sure this is not going to take too long.
I followed this tutorial on youtube to disable start-up applications in Ubuntu Sever 13.10. What happened is all unchecked apps are being checked again when I close then open the box! What should I do to keep them unchecked?
I'm configuring my own server, running Ubuntu 13.04. I'd like to speed up the OS a bit more by removing ‘unnecessary’ system services. Here is what I did:
Install and start rcconf
to check what services are enabled on boot:
$ sudo apt-get install rcconf
$ sudo rcconf
Uncheck some services like brltty
, speed-dispatcher
, saned
, rsync
.
I'm still not sure about some services like apparmor, grub-common, kerneloops, ondemand and pppd-dns. Is it safe to disable them? Do I need to uninstall those services or is disabling them is enough?
I've installed PostgreSQL 9.1 and pgadmin3 on Ubuntu Server 13.10.
I configured postgresql.conf with: listen_addresses = '*'
also I configured ph_hba.conf by changed peer connections to md5
Plus I reset the password of postgres by: sudo password postgres
then restarted the service with sudo /etc/init.d/postgresql restart
after that I tried to connect to the default PostgreSQL template database:
sudo -u postgres psql template1
but login failed with this error message:
psql: FATAL: password authentication failed for user "postgres"
then I tried to login from the pgadmin, which gave me the same error.
I've read here that it might be a password expiry dates bug PostgreSQL user can not connect to server after changing password
but I couldn't solve it coz I cannot login with psql. Does anyone now how to resolve this issue?

I'd like to create a customized Ubuntu Server 12.04 ISO but couldn't find a clear approach on how to do it. I see that Ubuntu-builder is a very good app to create a customized Ubuntu Desktop, but what about Ubuntu Server?
I have a PC with 2 physical hard drives, each is 500 GB (sda and sdb)
I'd like to combine them in one large hard drive (1T).
I couldn't find a clear approach on how to do it. I tried LVM with no luck. Any idea?
I have a PC with:
32GB RAM
1T harddisk
8 core cpu
ubuntu server 12.04
I installed virtualbox and created four VMs. I think my mistake was I didn't leave any space for the host so I got "The system is running in low-graphics mode" error. I tried to reinstall the OS but I keep getting the network configuration error during the installation. I figured out that the problem was with network driver so I tried to install it again using apt-get or via dvd but nothing worked..
To make sure that the problem is the network, I installed windows server and the network wasn't working too so i installed the driver and it worked!
So I need to know how to install ubuntu network drivers via terminal, coz I couldn't install GUI without network :(
Please help!!
