I am in the process of customising my new Dell Inspiron 15 3581, which came installed with Ubuntu 18.04.

I am a bit uncertain/confused when it comes to the Ubuntu Software Installer. i.e. I look for Claws Mail and up comes claws-mail-moon127 (Snap Store, 84.3 MB, 3.17.2). But when I scroll down further, there is Claws Mail (ubuntu-bionic-universe, 1.4 MB, 3.16.0-1).

I probably haven't quite understood yet, what this snapcraft is about, and how it is related to the Ubuntu repositories.

I guess, my actual questions are:

a) If there are two versions available, like the Claws Mail example above, which one would be the preferable, and why?

b) Which one would be the more stable version?

c) Will there be a conflict if I install both versions?

I have no sound on Ubuntu 14.04 since about a week now, but Bluetooth speaker and Bluetooth headphones work. I must have been an update doing it, because a friend of mine has the same problem with an identical laptop — while another friend with the same laptop has no problems, because he does not believe in doing updates.

The Sound Settings shows Dummy Output only.

This question was regarding the original installation on a Dell Inspiron 15 3551 (64bit). I have another 14.04 installation on an older 32bit laptop, which was unaffected — if that is of any interest to anybody.

Since I am now organising my new 18.04 installation, the question is no longer relevant to me. And since no solution was found, anybody that thinks it appropriate is welcome to delete this post. I don't believe I would have the authority to do so. Thank you.

I was using Sylpheed on my old computer with Kubuntu 12.04 LTS

I have just installed Sylpheed on my new computer with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

Is there a way of transferring / importing my email account settings without having to configure them all manually?

I am using Sylpheed as my email client in Kubuntu 12.04

When I delete an unread email in the inbox, it gets placed in the Trash folder.
When I delete a read email in the inbox, it gets deleted without being placed in the Trash folder.

The manual says: "Trash: in here all your deleted messages go."

Is this a bug or have I just not been able to find the setting?

I have an encrypted Integral USB stick with LOCKV231.EXE

I was hoping that I may be able to use it in Kubuntu (12.4) through Wine, but when I right-click LOCKV231.EXE and select: 'Open with wine windows program loader' I get a message saying: "Please insert the device or run this utility as privileged user."

How can I load LOCKV231.EXE into wine with admin privileges?

I am working on installing Kubuntu to dual boot on a WinXP laptop.

I have 86MB Unallocated, (C:) 73GB NTFS (System), Files (D:) 175GB NTFS, and I have created 50GB Unallocated (unformated) space at the end of the HDD.

Do I need to partition and format that space in advance of the installation or will Kubuntu do this during the installation?
