In the past I have used Cisco AnyConnect under Mac OS to connect to a remote system at my uni. This worked perfectly.

Now I wish to do the same thing under Ubuntu 14.04, however Cisco AnyConnect has not been made available for this platform.

Instead, I have installed network-manager-openconnect, and was able to connect to the remote system successfully. However, there are two significant problems that stops me from working remotely:

1. I am unable to establish an SFTP connection using Filezilla.

2. The connection is destroyed/freezes whenever I ls directories containing more than a dozen or so files.

How do I resolve these two problems?

Or is there a workable alternative to openconnect that will allow me to connect in the same manner as Cisco AnyConnect?

I have a secondary hard disk (8 TB, ext4) that does not auto-mount on OS startup despite "auto-mount" being set to "on" within the "Mount Options" of the "Disks" utility application.

How do I enable the auto-mount option to have this effect?

I am running 14.04. The disk is housed within a trayless removable rack and is present prior to powering the system. There is no problem using the disk once I have mounted it manually.

The version of ImageMagick on the machine I am using is too old for the operation I am trying to execute. I do not have admin privileges and the sysadmin will not upgrade ImageMagick.

How do I install a newer version of ImageMagick on my own account?

I am currently using a mobile internet connection, however I wish to mount a drive via a wifi connection. However, whenever I do so, the mobile internet connection appears to be neglected in favour of the wifi connection, which has no internet access. Therefore, I am unable to use the internet whilst using the wifi-based mounted drive and vice versa.

How can I "prioritise" the mobile internet network connection for internet access related tasks when both network types are in use?

I have downloaded 12.04 and installed it under VirtualBox. The launcher in its default format is unsuitable for my needs.

The two main factors that I need to edit are (1) the size of the panel; and (2) the order in which the launch items are listed.

From the settings I have reviewed, it is not clear how to do this. How do I achieve this?

As part of an installation process I am instructed to install libgs10-dev, however I cannot find any reference to this package outside of this installation guide ("Hacking the Kinect", Apress, 2012).

How do I install ccmake (not cmake)?
