I tried installing XUbuntu 22.04 on Hyper-V and it installs fine but after installation and reboot, the screen goes black with a flashing screen.

I was able to watch F1 output until it gets to:

Starting Hostname Service ...
tmp-sanity\x2dmount...

After which the black screen starts.

I was able to trigger Ctrl+Alt+F3 but the login only shows for a second and then goes black again.

I think this is a driver issue but I have no idea on how to resolve.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Notes:

• Ubuntu Desktop 22.04 works fine
• Only have RDP access to the Hyper-V server so I'm a bit limited on control.

When I run gvfs-ls trash:// or go to Trash in nautilus, I see the trash from my ZFS snapshots. This should not be happening. I'm sure this is impacting performance issues I have been seeing lately.

Can someone out there with snapshots containing .Trash-1000 folders check if they are showing up on your systems?

Is there a way to configure the trash backend (gvfs?) to ignore .zfs folders?

I use Meld very frequently and it just started bailing on me today. When I try to run meld from commandline, it stalls for some time and then exits with Failed to register: Timeout was reached.

I did an apt remove, apt update and re-install and the issue is still there.

Any suggestions on debugging this?

I have four encrypted zfs datasets that I need to mount by hand at the boot of my development machine using the command zfs mount -l -a. These datasets all have the same password and I have to type it in four times.

Is there a way to streamline this in a secure way so I only have to type the password once? Maybe there is a secure way to have the password automatically entered?

Does anybody know what the 'Package Name' of the Ubuntu Installer is? The Ubuntu bug reporting engine (bugs.launchpad.net) asks for a package but the search engine does not return anything for the query ubuntu installer.

When running zfs diff today as non-root, I got an error:

Unable to obtain diffs: 
   The sys_mount privilege or diff delegated permission is needed
   to execute the diff ioctl

Searching diff delegated permission in google did not give any results.

What is diff delegated permission and how do you get around this block to allow non-root users to run zfs diff.

I have kde-desktop installed on my Gnome based Ubuntu 20.04x system because I use and depend on many of the apps that are only available from the kde package and as a result Dolphin is included in my system.

Firefox and Chrome both use Dolphin instead of Nautilus (Files) but I don't use Dolphin and I don't want to use different file managers on the same desktop. Nautilus is my standard 'finder'.

There is no configurable in Settings -> Default Applications and I tried removing Dolphin from inode/directory in mimeinfo.cache with no impact.

How do I configure Ubuntu to have all apps use Nautilus (files) as the default file manager?

I am trying to get the Dark Theme going in Kdenlive on Ubuntu 20.04 and apparently, you need to install kde-runtime package however, there is no such package available:

% sudo apt install kde-runtime

result:

% E: Package 'kde-runtime' has no installation candidate

Anyone know if there is a ppa out there for is package or another way to get this Kdenlive theme functionality working?

Update: I was able to get it working by installing the package kde-plasma-desktop. This may be pretty heavy handed for some folks. Just a warning for those who install kde-plasma-desktop, you must run sudo apt update, after installing to prevent login issues. I did not run an update and I could not log into any desktop until I opened a console using Ctrl-Alt-F3 and running sudo apt update. That was scary!

After installing kde-plasma-desktop, the UI for kde apps now function correctly and the themes render correctly, including the default kdenlive theme.

Would still love to hear of a lighter weight solution for these issues.

I use Gnome desktop and depend on several KDE apps for my daily workflows. I have noticed that since migrating to a fresh install of Ubuntu 20.04, all KDE apps have an issue with the mouse right click (context menu). When I right click any kde app, it automatically selects the highlighted menu item and submits when I let go of the mouse button.

The expected behavior is to leave the context menu up when I let go of the mouse button and a left mouse click is required to select an item in the context menu.

Apps I have had this issue with: Kdenlive, Kfind, Konqueror, KDESVN

Is there a way to fix this?

I am trying out lubuntu desktop 16.10 on Virtualbox and following the "Try Lubuntu without installing" option and the VM boots but when it loads, the display is garbled and not usable:

Maximizing, changing display size does not help. I'm using the default display settings. I tried increasing ram but still no effect.

Any suggestions?
