I have recently upgraded from 16.04 to 18.04 While trying to start qjack I get this error

qjackctl: relocation error: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libQt5Gui.so.5: symbol png_set_option version PNG16_0 not defined in file libpng16.so.16 with link time reference

So I tried reinstalling qjack, all the qt5 lib and the libpng16 lib to no avail. So I had a deeper look at the libpng in question and checked the symbols.

readelf -Ws /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libpng16.so.16 | grep png_set_option
    84: 0000000000008e00    89 FUNC    GLOBAL DEFAULT   13 png_set_option@@PNG16_0

So the png_set_option is actually defined for PNG16_0 isn't it? I don't really know what to do to correct this.

I have read quite a few tips and tricks here and there on this forum. However, I cannot find any clean way of solving this problem. I had an old 1.5tb drive that was in a e-SATA box that I plugged in my computer on my Ubuntu 16.04. Struggled a bit to get the partition on it, succeeded and now have mounted my drive on: /mnt/3b42e9ce-1972-498b-9b96-13199979c333

This is my setup:

so sda 1 is my problem. I have tried this trick:

sudo chgrp USER /mnt/3b42e9ce-1972-498b-9b96-13199979c333
sudo chmod g+w /mnt/3b42e9ce-1972-498b-9b96-13199979c333

But this is not solving my problem my softwares cannot write on the disk. Not sure if I can really execute something on it. And this does not last after reboot and remounting. I have this message:

sudo chgrp USER /mnt/3b42e9ce-1972-498b-9b96-13199979c333
chgrp: changing group of '/mnt/3b42e9ce-1972-498b-9b96-13199979c333': Read-only file system

I also have tried to remount with writing permission but this did not work at all.

sudo mount -o remount,rw /dev/sda1

or

sudo mount -o remount, uid=1000, gid=1000, rw /dev/sda1

The latest syntax is not understood by the system at all although you will find it in different forums. My software is in my home directory so should have the same rights as me.

What is most surprising me is that I lost the rights without having rebooted... While working on my software which was struggling since it could not write (I discovered lately the origin of the error)

I have upgraded from Ubuntu 12.10 to 13.10. In the meanwhile I have removed the Enthought Python distribution manually because I want to start back on the 'official' packages. So I removed the python folder and redirected the pythonpath towards the official package. Here a dump of PYTHONPATH:

    $ echo $PYTHONPATH
    /usr/local/Madagascar_1.5/lib/python2.7/dist-packages:/usr/lib/python2.7:/usr/local/lib/python2.7:/usr/local/Madagascar_1.5/lib/python2.7:/usr/local/Madagascar_1.5/lib/python2.7/dist-packages:/usr/local/Madagascar_1.5/lib:/usr/lib/python3

Which is theoretically what you need to get everything working. I code with python 2.7 and everything works perfectly.

However to start gedit I need to export

PYTHONPATH=/usr/lib/python3 

whereas it is already in pythonpath. As Gedit depends on python 3 now. I followed this solution but to me it is not satisfactory:

When I update my packages with aptitude, I get an error message that gedit has inconsistencies. So the general advice is to reinstall gedit. Here the output:

I was wondering if it was my PYTHONHOME which was not properly defined but it did not bring me anywhere to export a variable.

Now the other annoyance is that Ubuntu-desktop being dependant of gedit, it is also broken after an update I made (without thinking...). So now I have no more desktop. Screen is black after logging.

Any suggestion to put gedit back on track?
