I've got trouble with embedded Wi-Fi on old HP laptop WiFi hard blocked on HP 15-ac002ur on Ubuntu 20.04 and nothing helps and could not solve it so I've bought Wi-Fi USB stick D-Link DWA-131 but got trouble with it too.

Tried to create connection, but nmcli shows that device is not available:

Decided to install Kubuntu on my old laptop HP 15-ac002ur. Everything works fine except WiFi (in Windows it was OK). I've seen very very many similar issues about hard block but none helped. Details follows.

WiFi network device is recognized:

WiFi network adapter is created:

But it could not be enabled:

rfkill shows hard block:

To unblock I've tried:

1. rfkill unblock all
2. Pressing airplane mode switch Fn+F12 or just F12 (looks like it does not work at all cause soft block value does not change too)
3. Blacklisting hp_wmi and hp_wireless
4. Switching to https://github.com/FreedomBen/rtl8188ce-linux-driver driver
5. Reset BIOS settings
6. Power reset laptop by manual from https://support.hp.com/emea_africa-en/document/c01684768

Interesting thing - few times I've seen that WiFi enables for few seconds and I've even seen surrounding WiFi networks in network manager list but then it disables.

Happily my main laptop is ThinkPad and I face no troubles there but I'm still interested in making this HP work and will be very glad if someone could help.

I've set system to hibernate when I close laptop in KDE settings, both for battery and cable. Hibernation works fine when I execute it from KDE menu but does not work when I close laptop despite system settings. Strange, but recently it was working correctly, don't know what happened and why now it is broken, I haven't touched anything related, only upgraded system from time to time. Grep dmesg by "hibernation" shows nothing interesting. Laptop - ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 8.

Could anybody help me get hibernation back to work?

Recently I've bought Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen8. Everything seems fine except one thing - I can't fully configure fingerprint reader.

I've followed guide https://askubuntu.com/a/1082465/249099 and added

auth    [success=2 default=ignore]  pam_fprintd.so max_tries=3 timeout=10

to /etc/pam.d/common-auth and added my fingerprint using fprintd-enroll $USER.

Console login and KDE lock screen login works fine. Latter not very usable, I need to press enter before system will scan my finger, but at least it work.

Big problem is that SDDM not allows me to login at all. If I press enter as on lock screen - it blocks forever. If I input password - it blocks forever.

I tried to follow https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/SDDM#Using_a_fingerprint_reader and added

auth sufficient pam_fprintd.so

to the beginning of /etc/pam.d/sddm but id didn't help, SDDM grays and does not allow me to do anything, I ought to go to virtual console, revert all fingerprint-related settings and restart SDDM from there.

GDM works fine with fingerprint from the box, without any settings from my side.

Could anybody help me setup SDDM to support fingerprint login?

Today I've upgraded Kubuntu from 19.04 to 19.10 on my laptop and faced following issue - tapping doesn't work anymore. One-finger touchpad tap doesn't work as left click and two-finger touchpad tap doesn't work as right click too.

I opened system settings and found that tapping section is totally disabled, see screenshot.

How this issue could be fixed?

As far as I remember, on previous Kubuntu version (18.10) when I hit Ctrl-F9 - KWin shows all open windows. But after upgrade to 19.04 it does not work anymore. In hotkeys settings Ctrl-F9 is still shortcut for this feature, but when I press it - nothing happens and I don't know neither how to launch it from command line to see errors nor where to see logs.

Today updated Ubuntu from 18.10 to 19.04 and found that gcc-4.8 and related packages were removed. But I need them to build soft for my work. How could I recover them and their dependencies?

I've bought Dell Vostro 14 5480 with preinstalled Ubuntu 14.04, reinstalled it to newer 18.10 and faced unpleasant issue - very low volume with bad quality on max settings. First time I see such thing on laptop with Linux and I'm very disappointed. If I plug in headphones - it is ok, good quality, good volume.

I've ran out of space and decided to free memory by deleting virtual machine files holding 3.8G. After that I see strange df output:

Tried to install Docker to VirtualBox guest working on Ubuntu 16.04 - it doesn't work.

Today bought Wi-Fi USB adapter D-Link DWA-131. It does not worked "out of box". Tried solution from Install DWA-131 WiFi dongle driver under Ubuntu 14.04.4 - does not helped too.

After I switch to virtual console using Ctrl+Alt+F6 I could not get back to X session using Ctrl+Alt+F7 - only blinking cursor is shown. Tried chvt - same result. Have to reboot and lost all my opened apps which is very inconvenient. Kubuntu version is 18.04 Bionic.

I work with Ubuntu 14.04.5 and faced troubles with rebuilding PulseAudio from source. PulseAudio here is 4.0-0ubuntu11.1, but I need to rebuild it and include recent patch https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/65100/ which improves echo-cancel module.

I tried to rebuild PA following instructions from Ubuntu community docs https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UpdatingADeb . I.e. apt-get build-dep ..., apt-get source ..., patch ..., debchange -i, dpkg-source --commit, debuild -us -uc -i -I. Built was successful, only one error - "pulseaudio: postrm-does-not-call-updaterc.d-for-init.d-script etc/init.d/pulseaudio", but I think it should be ignored. Then I installed built packages using debi, tried to launch PA and get following error:

The moment when launch fails is exact the moment when echo-cancel module should start. Furthermore, even if I rebuild PA without any significant changes - I get same error. If I use PA from officical Ubuntu repo - it starts without any error and launchs echo-cancel module successfully.

This is how I enable echo-cancel, these lines I added to the end of /etc/pulse/default.pa:

load-module module-echo-cancel source_name=noechosource sink_name=noechosink
set-default-source noechosource
set-default-sink noechosink

Could anybody suggest how can I solve this problem with rebuilding PA? Maybe the way I rebuild package is wrong in some point. As I said, the problem is not even with rebuilding modified PA, but with simple rebuilding it without any changes, so seems that the problem is with build process itself.
