I saw in a reddit comment that it was possible to switch to root user in nautilus file browser by just typing in a series of forward slashes and colons. I've since forgotten the sequence and searching the internet did not return any answers.
Is there an actual way to do that?
I found from googling that each letter stands for these:
unRaw (take control of keyboard back from X),
tErminate (send SIGTERM to all processes, allowing them to terminate gracefully),
kIll (send SIGKILL to all processes, forcing them to terminate immediately),
Sync (flush data to disk),
Unmount (remount all filesystems read-only),
reBoot.
So if what B does is reboot, what difference does this make against just holding down the power key.
And what's the significance of other letters (I don't understand the terms).
After upgrading to 16.04 from 15.10 it was running smoothly for about one week, then it started getting random crashes and freezes and now all the windows borders disappeared. I would include a screenshot but the keyboard shortcut for screenshots doesn't work.
Launcher is missing, and the global menu/ top bar is also missing. Right now my firefox window is maximized to the top and fills the screen like if I had pressed F11 to run it fullscreen. None of the keyboard shortcuts work.
Can't open a terminal using Ctrl + Alt + T. I finally managed to get a terminal open and ran unity --debug and this is the result. [opened the terminal using ctrl+space to open synapse, apparently that works and also copying in terminal and pasting firefox also works]

There is one error of opengl plugin not loading. Is that the problem?
Firefox 43 comes with a 64bit version. But the one delivered with Ubuntu is 32bit.
but in this link there is an option to download 64bit version but its in tar.gz format. Does that mean firefox gets automatically updated and its resources gets added to the software sources or do I have to download again when a new version comes?
I'm reinstalling ubuntu 15.10 because I feel as if it's slowing down (I installed gnome-shell along with unity and it hasn't been the same ever since)
And the current config was installed with 'csm' boot config. And if I installed over the current one with uefi enabled would there be a problem.

At first I accidentally ran sudo apt-get remove gnome instead of gnome-shell. This made the computer run into a boot loop. I got it fixed by installing gnome-desktop again.
I removed the gnome-shell but autoremove deleted a list of applications similar to this list. I got the bootloop error again, which I fixed again by installing gnome-desktop
Again running sudo apt full-upgrade gives this list. Should I do it or not?
