It's so weird that I have to shutdown Windows 11 to be able to use the internal laptop mic on Kubuntu. Restarting and then booting into Kubuntu completely disables the internal mic. Any explanations?

As mentioned here, "you must create the mount point before you mount the partition." But after adding the following lines in fstab and rebooting the system
/dev/sdxy /media/user/hdd_mount_point ext4 defaults 0 0
tmpfs /mnt/tmpfs_mount_point tmpfs rw,nosuid,noatime,nodev,size=4G,mode=1777 0 0
the mount points (target directories) hdd_mount_point
and tmpfs_mount_point
are automatically created if they do not exist. I know that you can make a mount point if it does not exist by adding the X-mount.mkdir
option to mount
command as mentioned in its manual page, but I really like to know if this option is implicitly used when mounting file systems via fstab.
And NO, it is not a duplicate of Automatic Adding of Filesystems to /etc/fstab
As the title says telegram system tray icon is hardly visible. All appearance settings are on default.
But when I change Colors from Breeze to Breeze Dark it gets fixed.
The problem is that I like Breeze colors and I do not want to change it. Additionally, I noticed the problem is with /usr/share/color-schemes/Breeze.colors
because when I change ForegroundNormal=35,38,39
from [Colors:Window]
tag to ForegroundNormal=239,240,241
that is the value used in BreezeDark.colors
the icon is changed to white but I get other color problems. Now looking for a solution.
Also I tried replacing all Telegram icons in /usr/share/icons/breeze/status/22
and /usr/share/icons/breeze/status/24
by /usr/share/icons/breeze-dark/status/22
and /usr/share/icons/breeze-dark/status/24
and nothing changed.
After the installation of any programs I get the following error
Processing triggers for libc-bin (2.23-0ubuntu7) ...
/sbin/ldconfig.real: /usr/lib/nvidia-375/libEGL.so.1 is not a symbolic link
/sbin/ldconfig.real: /usr/lib32/nvidia-375/libEGL.so.1 is not a symbolic link
What is this error and how can I solve it?
Is there any difference between cp -r /source /destination
and cp -a /source /destination
when I am copying from NTFS
to EXT4
?
I used tar to archive some important files. After converting all my files to .tar
I tested it and there was no problem so I deleted all my files. Next day I tried it again and I got this error:

Even when I try to copy my tar file to another directory I get this error:

My files were stored on an NTFS
partition and on an external hard drive. Ubuntu Disks
program says SELF-TEST FAILED
when I press Start Self-test
. What can I do now to recover my files? They are important stuff of my university.
I cannot open djvu
files by qpdfview
while qpdfview-djvu-plugin
is installed. I really like qpdview
and don't want to use other applications. Any suggestions?
When I install applications like Android Studio or programs like Oracle JDK in home directory by extracting tar archives, after running the .sh
file, they make changes on home directory such as making configuration files and folders. I want to know that can they access other system folders in my root directory and make changes in them?
I want to wipe one of my partitions say sda2
(I don't care about data security in this case). Does
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sda2
damage sda1
and sda3
or even partition table?
I downloaded netbeans-8.1-linux.sh
. After installation there are many .exe
files in the installation folder such as netbeans.exe
, netbeans64.exe
, app.exe
, app64.exe
, nbexec.exe
, pre7_app.exe
and etc. Why are they there?
EDIT: I installed NetBeans by Ubuntu Software and it hasn't even got JavaFX plug-ins! It also installs openjdk 1.8.0_9
and replace it with already installed oracle jdk1.8.0_92
!
I want to install my apps by apt-get install
from terminal but there aren't any options to get an app name in Ubuntu Software. What can I do?
I hadn't any problem with 14.04, but 16.04 is so buggy. I can't reboot Ubuntu after installation is completed from live USB/DVD and I must press the power button. Also sudo reboot
and sudo poweroff
don't work when Ubuntu is booted. I updated Ubuntu but the problem still exists.
I cannot type in Firefox, Terminal or File Manager's search bar when I open them, but I can if I open a new window or multiple windows without closing the first window. What can I do?
Edit 1: The problem still exists after updating Ubuntu by apt-get upgrade
and apt-get dist-upgrade
.
Edit 2: The problem only occurs when Ubuntu is installed by acpi=off
.
When I was making a bootable usb drive by Startup Disk Creator
utility, it said that the OS version of ubuntu-14.04.3-desktop-amd64.iso
is Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS "Trusty Tahr" - Beta amd64 (20150805)
. Why does it say such thing? By the way I am running Startup Disk Creator
on 14.04.3 LTS
.
I ran the following code in R according to this page
install.packages("ggtern")
but R says
> install.packages("ggtern")
Installing package into ‘/home/user/R/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-library/3.0’
(as ‘lib’ is unspecified)
--- Please select a CRAN mirror for use in this session ---
Warning message:
package ‘ggtern’ is not available (for R version 3.0.2)
Now how can I install it?
Just for the sake of completeness:
> install.packages(c("ggplot2", "plyr", "gtable", "scales", "reshape2", "proto", "sp"))
Download
ggtern_1.0.3.2.tar.gz
fromhttp://cran.r-project.org/src/contrib/Archive/ggtern/
and put it onHome
directory or randownload.file("http://cran.r-project.org/src/contrib/Archive/ggtern/ggtern_1.0.3.2.tar.gz", destfile="ggtern_1.0.3.2.tar.gz")
.> install.packages("ggtern_1.0.3.2.tar.gz", repos=NULL)
.Load the package
> library(ggtern)
.Use the package. See Making a ternary plot.

I have three primary partitions. One ext4
format for Ubuntu, one ntfs
format for Windows (C:)
and one ntfs
format for sharing files between Ubuntu and Windows (F:)
. I installed VirtualBox on both Ubuntu and Windows. I went to VirtualBox Settings
and set the Default Machine Folder
to F:\VirtualBox VMs
on both operating systems.
I created a dynamically allocated VDI (VirtualBox Disk Image) in F:\VirtualBox VMs\my_VM_name
and put virtual optical disk file
into F:\my_os_name.iso
and ran it on Virtualbox in Windows. After installation I also installed VirtualBox guest additions.
I went to Ubuntu, mounted the (F:)
partition and added my_VM_name.vbox
in VirtualBox. But when I ran it, I get the following error:
The virtual machine execution may run into an error condition as described below. We suggest that you take an appropriate action to avert the error.
The image file
'/media/Ubuntu_user_name/A_Hexadecimal_number/VirtualBox VMs/my_VM_name/C:/Program Files (x86)/Oracle/VirtualBox/VBoxGuestAdditions.iso' is inaccessible and is being ignored. Please select a different image file for the virtual DVD drive..
I closed VirtualBox and ran it again. But it introduce a new error
One or more virtual hard disks, CD/DVD or floppy disk image files are not currently accessible. As a result, you will not be able to operate virtual machines that use these files until they become accessible later.
Press Check to open the Virtual Media Manager window and see which files are inaccessible, or press Ignore to ignore this message.
I pressed the Check and the Virtual Media Manager window shows The following error in the Optical disk tab:
my_os_name.iso*
*Location: /media/Ubuntu_user_name/A_Hexadecimal_number/VirtualBox VMs/my_VM_name/F:/my_os_name.iso
How can I config VirtualBox to work without any errors in both Systems?
In Windows I am familiar with .exe
and .dll
files (two essential files for running or writing a program). But when I want to install manually an application in Ubuntu, most of the time I will need extra packages. What are these packages? Are they like dll
files in Windows? Where are they save in Ubuntu? What types of packages are there? How can I find what packages are needed to install an application and where can I find them?
