As seen the below output, lsusb is incorrectly naming some USB devices as HD USB Camera.

Any ideas on how to work around this and have devices correctly named?

So after having an Ubuntu 20.04 fresh install into the ASUS Transformer T100HA, I've faced a no-sound issue. The system recognized the following outputs:

• Multichannel
• Internal audio

But no sound with any output

I have this situation that I couldn't find any solution on web after extensively searching for...

I have this PC that I use "as server" with Ubuntu-server which I then later added default GUI (GNOME Shell). It has dual video card (Onboard Intel Graphics + nVidia Geforce 1050Ti) and most of the time I need to boot it without any screen connected to it. But sometimes I need to connect a screen to have access to the GUI and it just can't happen after booting without screen. For this, as workaround, I have to reboot the computer with the screen connected and then it brings GUI successfully.

It happens on both GPU. So I have no clue on what's going on and how to work around it.

Is there any way I can set a default active GPU even without screen during boot? I can imagine this will "fake" a connected monitor on, let's say, Intel iGPU and everytime I connect a monitor on it, a GUI will be ready to be used.

Or is there any other solution for this?

For this, I don't need to use dGPU (nvidia) with monitor because I am using it to process some researches with CUDA. So I don't want to lose VRAM memory by sharing it with GUI. For this, it would be nice to use iGPU only for PC GUI.

I hope someone understand this situation and have a solution.

I wonder to remove Function options from syslinux on Ubuntu CD installation iso.

I am customizing my own distro and I want to remove those options which are useless for my case.

I have tried changing .cfg files but doesn't work and I can't find proper setting to remove it. I succeed on changing background and some colors, but not customizing these options.

Alright I am struggling with preseed because the whole process takes so much time for changing preseed then testing it (VM's are too slow and to test on the same machine I have to isolate all other HDD to prevent any mess).

What could I do in order to optimize preseed configuration on debian-installer?

Is there any tool in order to quickly validate my seed files to my desire?

I have run Dualboot Ubuntu with Windows for a long time and this started to happen with me since I installed any 17.04 xBuntu variation.

Every time I boot into Windows, the next time I try to boot into x/l/gnome/ubuntu, I got initramfs and only succeed if executed:

e2fsck -v -f -y -C 0 /dev/sdaX (ubuntu 17.04 installation partition)

The strange is that I have others linux installation, like Ubuntu 14.04 and Fedora 25, in other partitions and it only occurs on the 17.04 installation.

I am using EFI partition which shared boot efi partition for all installation. It is very odd to me this and I don't know anymore what to do.

I am working on Ubuntu customization for production level. The setup environment is explained below:

I have some Ubuntu machines (12 to be more precise) that runs a software made by myself for this business. It boots directly to the X, automatic log-in, then opens right away mysoftware GUI.

I would like to have a custom Ubuntu installation image (for USB stick, etc...) with predefined user, variable hostname and some customization that I have already made on those machines.

So, What is the best tool to create this customized distribution (based on my needs on customization, easy deployment/customization/creation)

My problem is, I have to turn the installation process more easy. Because the HDD clone process is wasting so much time for me. And with different hardwares, I have about three different HDD clones to match them.

What I would like to accomplish on this customization:

• predefined username to log into automatically with
• predefined session customizations ($HOME customizations for OpenBox, .ssh,.compton, etc...)
• runs software right after automatic login
• automatic predefined software packages installed (from apt-get, but without internet need)
• variable hostnames (sales00, sales01, sales02, and so on...)
• set of customized permission of system calls/programs (such as chmod 4755 on /bin/date)
• customized /etc/skel for new user (just in case)
• disable automatic updates
• fresh network adapters configuration (today I have a mess on network adapters from each machine like eth49, eth88,). I wish they have all the same numbers
• network adapters predefined static IP: I have three network adapters: one has a fixed IP for all machines (the same IP 1.1.1.1 for this, though), second and third network adapters are configured through my software. So I wish I have a custom installation that configures automatically this 1.1.1.1 IP for that network adapter

And so, again, What is the best Ubuntu custom distribution creator (studio?) to work with?

P.S.: I used to try PinGuyBuilder once, but it changed to default the permissions customization (like chmod 4755 on /bin/date) and has limitations like predefined username/hostname Best Regards

I've been looking around for mounting ntfs partition on Ubuntu with Windows 8 dual boot. I've found that the Fast Boot feature on W8 makes impossible to mount any ntfs in the same system.

So, my question is if there is any possibility to mount ntfs partition and still using Windows 8 Fast Boot feature to speed up boots? I just don't want to loose boot speed for mounting ntfs partitions.
