After years without issues on my Ubuntu 16.04, I have had this issue, where shutting my computer down would lead to my computer halting on a screen like the one in the picture below (revealed by pressing ESC).

HOWEVER, after some experimenting, I found out that by typing in a terminal and executing the command
systemctl daemon-reexec
prior to invoking the shut down, the system would fast and surely shut down properly.
Could someone help me out to pinpont the cause of such behaviour?

I was taking notes during a class, when I suddenly got distracted, and the moment after this is what presented itself to my astonished self. The very same window, but with the toolbar abnormally scaled.
EDIT: I am not sure about it, but I don't exclude having pressed some key. The only thing that had changed when looking back at the screen was the toolbar.
I tried purging and reinstalling Xournal, but the toolbar remains like this. (yes, the big white square that looks like a paper sheet is actually the colour picker)
Could anybody help me revert it?

in my college we have a filtered network that won't let through VoIP calls of any kind (as well as blocking bittorrent clients).
I'd like to channel all the programs connecting to the Internet through the 80 port, something I did on Android with an app called Drony (which asked for permission to create a dummy VPN, actually a trick to channel all of the apps through the 8080 port). Is there any way for Ubuntu to achieve this?

I'm buying a new PC, and would like to change Windows with Ubuntu, planning to later get a refund of the licence key (€60 or so). I'm new to this UEFI issue, and wondering how I'll be able to disable it without going through Windows (thus activating the licence and voiding any claim of refund). Anybody could help with it?

I've got 2 subs in 2 different languages for a video. One is synced, the other has all the right lines but wrong timing [NOT fixed nor progressive delay]: the easiest thing would be changing the timings of the latter with the ones from the former, kind of copy paste time codes. Which subtitles editor for Ubuntu has the capabilities to accomplish/would be more suited for this task?

EDIT: Unfortunately there's no fixed delay, such that moving the subs by a certain amount of time could do it. They are simply wrongly synced (and that doesn't have to do with framerate either). I need an editor which can kind of copy and paste the "timing" column beside the "text" column

I'm not looking for a general sub editor, I'm looking for one with a particular feature NOT even mentioned in the question you would like to redirect me to. If it was, would you be able to point that out? Sorry for any misunderstanding I might have created, I'm only looking for an answer, which unfortuntely is something I haven't got so far

I'm using Lubuntu 15.04 on a Lenovo Essential B50-30, a low-end machine. When I shut it down, after a few seconds (during which you can see the Lubuntu logo and "....") the screen just gets stuck on that screenshot (the colored dots not moving anymore), and I have to long press the power button to make it turn off. Am I damaging my pc? (Not really sure if the process is completed or the processor's still working) Are you aware of any possible solution?

What if I suspend or hibernate my PC while encoding a video using HandBrake? Does it somehow affect the result? (ex: suspended at 33,06%, get a defective B frame in that place) And what if I "Pause" the process before suspending/hibernating?

I can't set frootvpn as default VPN layer in my Ubuntu 14.04. Following the official guide I succeded in activating it for the time being, but after restarting I have to do the last step again. I tried importing default config file (using network manager settings-->new-->VPN-->import settings), but it won't let me save the new profile, guess some entries are missing. [as you can see, "save" button is not clickable]

I'd like to remove the DRM protection from a couple of my eBooks, just for PERSONAL USE (since they are locked, I cannot read them). They are protected by the Adobe ADE DRM.

On the Internet there are many ways to get the result, but most of them are outdated. Is there a simple and effective one?

here's my problem: I need to change the framerate of the audio track of one of my films from 25 to 23,976 fps (to mux it with a full hd version); I used to make use of handbrake, re-encoding the film at highspeed and changing the framerate, setting the audio at high quality This time, I'd like to change the framerate WITHOUT affecting the audio quality nor re-encoding with a different format.

Is there a way? (maybe ffmpeg?-->if so, please post the commands)
