I'm running the latest stable version of snap packaged Firefox (78.0.2) on Ubuntu 20.04.
I'm unable to print to my Brother DCP-L2500D Laser printer - I can see and select the printer, but when I attempt to print a document I get a "Printing Failed" dialogue.
I assume this is related to permissions and how snap packages are isolated from the rest of the system.
I can print successfully from Chrome browser which is installed via apt.
I recently installed Ubuntu 20.04 to the internal drive of my Dell XPS 15 9570.
I'm running kernel 5.4.0-29-generic and the latest nvidia drivers. I recently upgraded the BIOS to 1.15.0.
I'm seeing thermal shutdowns whenever I try to play Steam games at high resolutions. I never saw this when using Windows 10. I've seen a few references to this online but I'm not sure if it's being caused by the BIOS, the Kernel or the graphics drivers. Any ideas what I should do?
I tried a daily build of 20.04 in March and was able to install it to an external SSD no problem.
I tried to install a daily build today and the installer is telling me to disable Intel RST before installing.
I don’t want to touch the internal disk, I just want to install to the external SSD but I can’t see any way to achieve that now. Am I missing something?
I recently upgraded to 19.10.
LXD will no longer run, I get this error:
Error: Get http://unix.socket/1.0: dial unix /var/snap/lxd/common/lxd/unix.socket: connect: connection refused
I've checked and the lxd group is there, and my user is a member.
I have a Dell XPS 15 9570 running Windows 10.
I purchased an external Dell Thunderbolt 3 drive to enable me to boot Ubuntu without touching the Windows 10 install on the internal SSD.
I have configured the BIOS to allow booting from Thunderbolt 3 using the instructions here:
I have a USB key with the Ubuntu 18.04.1 installer.
I successfully booted from the USB key.
I can see the Thunderbolt 3 drive from the installer and the installation appears to complete successfully.
When I reboot, I can see the Thunderbolt 3 drive in the boot sequence in the Bios Boot options.
When I attempt to boot from the the Thunderbolt 3 drive a message pops up too quickly for me to read and the machine restarts.
Anyone got any experience of a similar setup?
I have a load (~14) of LXD containers running on my 14.04 development machine.
I would like to do a clean install of 16.04 but I need to keep my containers.
What is the best approach to achieve this?
Should I publish the containers as images and then create new containers using those images when 16.04 is installed?
Today I apt-get upgraded my machine (14.04) and now I can no longer access any of my local LXD containers.
There was a message warning that I needed to reconfigure the container networking but now I can't find any reference to it on-line.
Does anyone know of a step by step guide to networking in LXD 2.0?
I have been experimenting with LXC/LXD on Ubuntu 14.04 and it's all working great. I just need to figure out how to get shared directories working between my host machine and a container so I can ditch Virtualbox once and for all.

Does anyone know of any simple, clear instructions to get this working? Any help much appreciated.
I recently upgraded to 14.04 and I love it.
One thing is bothering me though: I notice that the default time & calendar indicator applet now displays calendar events. It's currently showing events from my Google calendar account. The thing is, I don't remember configuring this anywhere, and I can't see where it's getting my credentials from. How is the applet logging in to my Google account?
I don't have evolution installed and I've not added my account details to on-line services under settings. The Google Calendar web app has not been configured either.
I guess this must be a gconf setting from a previous version of Ubuntu. Any ideas how I can change the config?
