I would like to launch Cerebro using only Super key. I am running Ubuntu 19.04.
Juraj.Lorinc's questions
I have updated to 19.04 from 18.10 (which was updated to from 18.04 and maybe even 17.10 before that-don't remember exactly). Now the problem is that when I open Applications (either by Clicking it on dash or opening it using Super key) and then close it, the Applications overlay stays on and I am not able to open/switch to any other application. I have tried to switch to Wayland, but the only difference was, I was not able to fix this by restarting using alt+F2.
I have just installed Gimp 2.8.22 Ubuntu 17.10. The problem is when I have already Gimp opened and want to open another image. I go to Open With Other Application and select Gimp, always new instance of Gimp is starting. And I am not even able to drag new file to Gimp. On my other computer once I have Gimp opened and every other file is opened in the same instance on new tab.
I have tried to uninstall Gimp (and even purge), I have tried installing it using Snap or Ubuntu Software center but with the same results.
EDIT:
I am using Single window mode and have just found out there is an area where dropping works (just above tools on the left side of the program) so that part about drag-n-drop not working might be a feature not a bug
. But the other problem still remains. I am at least able to work around that using mouse. Still would be nice if somebody will have a suggestion how to fix that.
I have 29" Wide monitor (21:9). I usually have 2 programs on it side by side. I use keyboard shortcut Super+Left/Right.
It works great except I would prefer to split screen 60-40 not 50-50 (or maybe 70-30, it will need some testing). The reason is one of the programs is code editpor for which I need quite a lot of room (but not whole screen) and the other is Chrome (or Firefox) Developer Tools, for which I don't need so much space.
I am on Ubuntu 17.10 and using multiple (4) desktops and 2 monitors, but I think it is not relevant.
Thanks a lot.
I have made fresh install of Ubuntu 17.10 (fresh, except keeping my old /home
partition). Everything seams to work out of the box except after I installed (or actually enable in Additional drivers
) the nVidia 384.90 driver system failed to start. I was just getting following error
[ OK ] Started NVIDIA Persistence Daemon.
Stopping NVIDIA Persistence Daemon...
[ OK ] Stopped NVIDIA Persistence Daemon.
Starting NVIDIA Persistence Daemon...
And this goes all over again and again like hundred times and the just stops. The only way out is uninstalling nvidia-384 using recovery mode.
I have tried other versions of the driver as well but with very same result. On shared Intel graphics (Intel® Haswell Mobile) everything works fine.
My config:
Intel i7-4710MQ
nVidia GT 940M
I have just upgraded to Ubuntu 17.10 and found out there is no option to have 2 by 2 workspaces. I was able to configure 4 "static" workspaces using GNOME Tweak Tool, but I would like to have them in 2 rows by 2. Any ideas?
My problem is quite specific: I need to connect (FTP) to a client's server from my PC (Ubuntu 16.10) but my PC has dynamic IP and the client's server has IP filtering on. I have my own VPS (Ubuntu 16.04) obviously with static IP so I was thinking to tunnel my connection to client's server through my VPS. Preferably using FireFTP if possible. The only access I have to clients server will be FTP (possibly SFTP) and I can get my IP (my VPS's IP) to be added into the white list.
The problem is I am quite new to SSH (I own the VPS just for a few days) and SSH Tunneling seams to me quite higher level and my case seams to be quite specific. I don't mind studying this subject a bit, I just need to be pointed the right way (e.g. what type of SSH Tunnel I need an so on).
I have a script that starts a new activity for hamster
(activity tracker). This is my current script:
ACTIVITY=`zenity --entry --title "Enter new activity name" --text "New activity name:"`
hamster start $ACTIVITY
The problem is I would like the script to remember the last task so I can just run it with ENTER instead of typing the name again. I want it to store the name of it in file. Currently I have made the file manually: /usr/local/bin/hamster-log
.
My script so far is the following:
file=/usr/local/bin/hamster-log
last=$(<$file)
activity=$(zenity --entry --title "Enter new activity name" --text "New activity name:" --entry-text "$last")
hamster start "$activity"
if [ ! -z "$activity" ]; then
destdir=/some/directory/path/filename
if [ -f "$file" ]; then
echo "$activity" > "$file"
fi
fi
The weird thing is when I run the script from terminal, it reads the file's content properly, but when I run it using a shortcut it doesn't read the file.
I have set the file's permissions to 777
.
I am not sure if is my question clear enough so here is some explanation what I am trying to achieve.
I need to create custom shortcut to run hamster (time tracker) to track new activity. The command is:
$ hamster start <activity name>
so I want to press the hotkey ( Super+H ) and then want to be prompted for activity name. Then the text I will enter will be used in the command
$ hamster start <my entered text>
Thanks a lot.
I am using several Chrome windows (3-5) with many open tabs on each and I am using "On startup" > "Continue where you left off" settings. The problem is, when I start the chrome, all the windows are open on current workspace (I am using 4 workspaces). What I need to do is to move each window to specific workspace. I need to select window by it's ID because title of the window might be always different (depending which tab is on focus). It is bit annoying to move the windows to right workplace manually all the time.
This is the output of my wmctrl -l
command:
wmctrl -l
0x01e00002 0 posuk13-PCSPEC XdndCollectionWindowImp
0x01e00005 0 posuk13-PCSPEC unity-launcher
0x01e00008 0 posuk13-PCSPEC unity-panel
0x01e0000b 0 posuk13-PCSPEC unity-dash
0x01e0000c 0 posuk13-PCSPEC Hud
0x0300000a 0 posuk13-PCSPEC Desktop
0x04400001 0 posuk13-PCSPEC Inbox - [email protected] - Gmail - Google Chrome
0x04400039 0 posuk13-PCSPEC How to move Chrome windows using wmctrl? - Ask Ubuntu - Google Chrome
0x0440003a 0 posuk13-PCSPEC YouTube - Google Chrome
0x0440003b 0 posuk13-PCSPEC Online regex tester and debugger: JavaScript, Python, PHP, and PCRE - Google Chrome
And now let's say I need to move the YouTube window to workspace #2. The following command works:
wmctrl -r YouTube -e 0,2000,0,-1,-1
and also this works:
wmctrl -r 0x0440003a -i -e 0,2000,0,-1,-1
But the problem is that the window ID is different every restart and it's title is different every time I switch tab. Is there a way to select window by part (last 3-4 digits) of it's ID (it seams that last 2-3 digits are always the same when I start the window right after reboot), or to select e.g. 7th window from the list? The reason I need this is I want to write script that will start all required applications (Chrome, Apache, SublimeText...) and move windows to specific workplaces (I have one workplace for e-mail/Facebook, one for music and one for work stuff).
PS: Please do not suggest using system hibernation - it is not an option for me because of some driver issues.
PS2: I am using Ubuntu 15.04
I have recently installed Ubuntu (14.04) on new partition. I still have the broken version of Ubuntu on the old partition and I want to copy some settings from it. Now I trying to find location of AdBlock plus settings and custom filters, because I use it only of few webs with excessive advertising. I have googled a lot with no luck.
I need to invert multiple .png
images from black to white using command line.
I have found that I might use gimp plugin "plug-in-vinvert" but I can not figure out how to use it. I have tried something like
gimp -b '(plug-in-vinvert "INT32" "filename.png" "/resultsFolder/")'
and many other combinations but with no success.
