The recursive search in the file manager is extremely frustrating, I want to be able to instead use the type-ahead navigation when I'm opening/saving files (selecting the folder that matches what you type, instead of doing a full search through all the folders).

I have found this guide on enabling the type-ahead search in nautilus, but unfortunately it doesn't work in the file picker (the window that opens when you click Open/Save File in apps).

I tried replacing nautilus with Nemo, which has type-ahead search by default, but apparently there's no way to use Nemo as a file picker, people say that using nautilus is hardcoded into the apps.

Is there any solution or a workaround to this?

I want to be able to serve files from my laptop, over wifi, with no router or internet connection. My goal is to make it so that when I travel to the area without internet, my other devices(iPad) could wirelessly download files from my laptop.

Would this be possible to do using WiFi Hotspot(or in some other way)? Would it be difficult? Can you help me out?

I am able to connect iPad(mini 5, iOS 13.2.3) to my laptop(Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS) and browse the files. But I can not copy a file to the iPad, Nautilus begins the copying process, which then gets stuck on 0%. cp doesn't work either, it simply freezes.

I suspect the problem was caused by the update to iOS 13, because it worked just fine before, but I'm not sure.

Similar question was recently closed because the author wasn't using the official version of Ubuntu. Since my version is "official", I hope I can find some help.

I would appreciate any idea or workaround on how I could send files to my iPad without the internet connection.

I have just installed the latest version of wine using:

sudo apt-get install --install-recommends winehq-stable

If I run it again, it tells me winehq-stable is already the newest version (4.0~bionic).

But if I run wine --version or any of the variants(wine64, wineserver, etc) they're showing me that version is 3.7. Why would that happen? How do I fix this?

My goal is to record 4-5 hours of audio for my long form podcast. I need it to be able to accept input from the mic and output from the laptop audio (so I can record conversation I have with other people over discord), and create files that aren't too huge.

People suggested audacity to me, but I can't seem to figure out how to make it record the audio output.

Someone told me I should:

Use JACK (useful for routing sound from one program to another among other things) together with Audacity. To get the sound output from your laptop (assuming you use PulseAudio), use a PulseAudio JACK Sink. qjackctl is a GUI interface for JACK that makes the routing a bit easier (and visual).

I have audacity and qjackctl installed, but it's really overwhelming trying to figure out how to make this work when I don't know what most of these words mean.

Could you help me with this process, or suggest a simpler alternative?

I am building an app for Ubuntu Touch. It works well on desktop, but when I try to open it on nexus it starts opening a splash screen but immediately crashes. Here's the logs:

I've built an ubuntu touch app, it works well on desktop, but when I install it on the device and try to launch, it crashes. Where can I find error logs or any other output that the app can give me to figure out what's wrong?
