In Ubuntu 18.04 with Gnome-shell when opening new or existing files in LO Writer I have to click in the text field with the mouse to be able to type or to use keyboard shortcuts to work with the text. For instance, I want to search for text in a Writer file, I open it and when I press Ctrl+F nothing happens until I click somewhere in the text. Similarly, I cannot type in new files until I put the cursor on the file with the mouse. How do I get rid of this annoyance?
Bridge's questions
I tried everything from this tutorial Installing Broadcom Wireless Drivers without any success. bcmwl-kernel-source
simply leaves my wifi adapter undetected and firmware-b43-installer
makes adapter see the wireless networks but it cannot connect to any one of them. I tried perhaps every advice I could find on Google. It doesn't work.
When I booted from liveusb before I installed 18.04 there were similar issues with wifi - it was working only in 2 in 3 attempts and I had to reboot again for it to connect. After I installed 18.04 wifi worked for 6 hours, then I suspended my PC and then no wifi and no hope…

I tried many things but to no avail (I added 'lv3:ralt_switch', 'misc:typo' to ’input-sources’ using dconf-editor). So how do I set up the 3rg and 4th level of the keyboard? I use En, Ru and Uk layouts + iBus for Sanskrit and Bengali. When I had MATE I also had troubles with setting it until I checked Miscellaneous Compatibility Options → Enable extra typographic characters. But in Xubuntu there is no such menu :(
There is a wonderful program created by rlvision.com called snap2html. It creates a very intuitive and visual snapshot of all the files and directories in a certain directory. I'm desperately looking for a similar program for Ubuntu. I couldn't find it online. I used to do that with tree
and aha
, but that's not nearly as compact and charming as snap2html.
I have iBus with Sanskrit (IAST) and Bengali layouts. Besides that I have English and Russian keyboard layouts. iBus works in other applications (Firefox, Thunderbird), but doesn't work at all in Writer, Pluma, SublimeText, Atom etc. It used to work some weeks ago. Any suggestion?
When I click on any Tomboy notes listed in Unity tray it sends me to the launcher where the Tomboy icon starts shaking and the note opens only after I click on the icon in the launcher. I need to open it with the single click on the list in the tray, how to do that? Previously I didn't have such problem. Ubuntu 14.04, Unity.
I have Ubuntu 12.04 with Unity and for the last 3 months or so it's been offering me a partial upgrade. The only things that cannot be upgraded are the kernel and dropbox. I'm still on the 3.2.0-37-generic-pae kernel. On my another machine (12.04 with MATE) I had the same problem but it disappeared on its own. What should I do to go on with normal life?
When I click on the .rar file in Firefox it offers either to open it with a default application or to save it to disk. However, the default app for .rar is set to gedit (?) So how do I change that, so that FF will offer to open .rar files with archive manager? I tried editing Preferences/Applications, but I need it to ask me first what to do and then open it ot save it. Thanks!
