For Ubuntu 20.04, there is this page which has links for Ubuntu desktop for both x86_64 (amd64) and ARM64. This installs fine, but I am having trouble installing libraries so I'm going to try another version.

For Ubuntu 21.10, I found this page which has links for server images and a link for a Raspberry Pi version, but I am not using a Raspberry Pi and am looking for an ISO for installing on a general-purpose ARM device like with the 20.04 image.

For Ubuntu 22.04, I found this page with preview images but I am guessing that they are not very stable for general-purpose usage. It does look like what I'm looking for, but Parallels is not able to boot it.

Is there a way to download the desktop version of Ubuntu 21.10 Impish Indri for ARM?

I have this executable: /opt/lampp/manager-linux-x64.run which needs to run as root.

If I execute this with sudo /opt/lampp/manager-linux-x64.run then it works fine.

I would like to add an entry to the application menu so that I can access this program without a terminal. In previous versions of Ubuntu I would use gksudo but this no longer exists in the latest version of Ubuntu. I was told the replacement for gksudo is admin://, so I tried both of these and neither work:

$ admin:///opt/lampp/manager-linux-x64.run
bash: admin:///opt/lampp/manager-linux-x64.run: No such file or directory
$ admin://opt/lampp/manager-linux-x64.run
bash: admin://opt/lampp/manager-linux-x64.run: No such file or directory

How do I use admin:// to execute a program as root?

I also tried pkexec and it did not work correctly. This command works when executed in a terminal, but doesn't work when I add the exact code to a .desktop file using the menu editor:

pkexec --user root env DISPLAY=$DISPLAY XAUTHORITY=$XAUTHORITY /opt/lampp/manager-linux-x64.run

It seems that Ubuntu no longer ships Apache Tomcat 8 in the repos as of 20.04, there is only Apache Tomcat 9. I have a school assignment which requries we use Apache Tomcat 8. Is there a way to install Apache Tomcat 8 on Ubuntu 20.04, or will I have to get a VM with Ubuntu 18.04?

I have a RAR archive file, and I get this "Prefix found" error message when I try to extract its contents using the built-in Archive Manager (file-roller 3.28.0) in Ubuntu 18.04:

I would assume that if it can read the archive's file list, then it could also extract the files. I was able to extract the file using the unrar command in the terminal, but I would still like to know what's wrong with Archive Manager, and if there's a way to fix it so that it can extract RAR files.

The download page for Android Studio does not list any repositories, it only offers direct download links. I noticed that there are many Android SDK and tools packages in the Ubuntu repos, but no Android Studio. Is there a frequently updated repository or PPA available for Android Studio?

This question was asked a long time ago back when Android Studio was still in a preview state, however, the answers are all very different and many of the answers consist of custom PPAs, many of which probably do not exist anymore for modern versions of Ubuntu. Therefore, this question needs to be re-asked so that we can collect updated instructions.

Development of EmulationStation seems to have stopped, and I can't get it to install on Ubuntu 18.04. There is a LaunchPad PPA, and on the site it has this message:

EmulationStation upstream is DEAD (there's no maintenance there anymore), build is broken on 17.04, GO AWAY.

So, I have low hopes for getting EmulationStation to install via apt. Would it be possible to get EmulationStation in a snap format? Can I package my own snap with Ubuntu 16.04 libraries in it? (or whatever distro works)

What about Flatpak or AppImage?

I am trying to install MonoDevelop version 5.4.1.7 so that I can use it with Mono 5.4.1.7.

First I tried installing Mono 5.4.1.7 by following the instructions here http://www.mono-project.com/download/stable/ except replacing stable-bionic with stable-xenial/snapshots/5.4.1.7 (there are no 5.4 snapshots for Bionic). This worked:

$ sudo apt install mono-complete
[...]
mono-complete is already the newest version (5.4.1.7-0xamarin5+ubuntu1604b1).

Then I tried to do the same thing with MonoDevelop. I followed the instructions here http://www.monodevelop.com/download/ but I replaced vs-bionic with vs-xenial/snapshots/5.4.1.7. This didn't work:

$ sudo apt update

I also tried changing stable-xenial to xenial, and sudo apt update no longer throws an error but it still can't install MonoDevelop.

Why doesn't this work? How can I install MonoDevelop version 5.4.1.7 on my system?

When I find myself in a terminal and want to shut down my computer, I will often use the poweroff command. This has always worked for me on Ubuntu 16.04 64-bit. However, on Ubuntu 17.10 64-bit, I am getting this message:

I know that I can work around the issue using the suggested command, but I want to know, why is this happening? Is there an issue that can be fixed? Should I bother to fix it?

The Accessories, Games, Internet, Other, and Wine categories are missing in the Whisker menu. They are not marked as hidden in menulibre. Additionally, I am unable to search for any items, searching for Firefox or Chrome does not give any results.

What in the world happened? I have no idea what could've gone wrong.

I have already tried removing the Whisker menu and adding it back, no change.

I was wondering what's the best way to go about this. I don't have it available in Kdenlive or GIMP so I don't think it's installed.

The ttf-mscorefonts-installer package doesn't work for me, it constantly shows an error of "Failed to download extra data files". There's probably a different way to install this one font...

I usually use PlayOnLinux to manage my WINE versions via the interface, however, I would like to change my "system" WINE version (the version that loads when I double-click a file) so that I can just double-click on files to run them in the latest version of WINE even if they're the same "wineprefix". I have read the answer to this question but the versions in that repository only go up to version 1.8.

I would like the ability to make my system version of WINE 2.3 and keep it updated to the latest version automatically, so I don't want to manually compile or download packages all the time.

Also, if possible, I would like my system version to be a 32-bit one, and to instead use PlayOnLinux if I need a 64-bit wineprefix.

I am running Xubuntu 16.04 LTS 64-bit.

I have a program that I want to use but it's very old and measures RAM in Kilobytes. It won't start because it complains that it can't run with less than 5000K RAM (even though I have vastly more). How do I limit the amount of RAM that WINE sees / tells the programs about?

Hello, I was wondering if I could just make a copy of my Appearance (specifically, font) settings because I want to be able to place the file into a LiveCD and make these settings the default on a new installation. If not that, at least I could bulk-copy it to the installations in question.Thank you in advance.

I'm running Xubuntu 16.04 LTS, and I have a ~40 GB root partition which is 100% full according to System Monitor (as root). It's definitely full, since many programs aren't functioning correctly.

However, for some reason, I can't seem to figure out what is using the space! Baobab (as root) only reports a total of 15.5 GB used on my root partition!

EDIT: Also, here's /var - people said that it's big. Baobab only reports 1 GB for /var, and /var/log is empty. I've tried running sudo rm -R /var/log and there was no effect.

So, how do I find out what is using my disk space, and how do I prevent it from filling up my root partition? This is a huge problem, please help! Thank you in advance :)

EDIT 2: As posted in the answer section, sudo lsof / | awk '{if(\$7 > 1048576) print \$7/1048576 \"MB\" \" \" \$9 }' | sort -n -u returns 11222.7MB /var/log/kern.log 11222.9MB /var/log/syslog, however, I can't seem to figure out how to delete these files, and additionally, I would like to figure out how I can permanently prevent these files from growing this large. This answer to another question suggested that I look into the logs and see what's filling them up, so ideally I'd like some way to read the contents of these mystery files.

EDIT 3: I have temporarily fixed this issue by mounting /var/log on a separate partition.

In Power Manager, there's a checkbox for "Handle display power management". What handles display power management when this box is unchecked?

Additionally, what determines how the system behaves if I uncheck Power Manager from the Startup list? What determines what happens if the power or sleep buttons are pressed, if the battery is low, or if the system is idle for a long amount of time?

In X.org/X11, I could use the keyboard shortcut "Ctrl+Shift+U" in any text field and then type a Unicode character code to insert special characters. However, this does not work in Mir. What is the keyboard shortcut for inserting special characters/Unicode in Mir? I'm using Ubuntu 16.04. Also, I'm curious what the key combination is in Wayland, but more importantly I want to know about Mir.

Specs: Xubuntu 15.04, GTX 770, i5-4690k, 8 GB RAM, Corsair SSD, Hitachi HDD.

Whenever I boot into a live session, it always fails to boot when I have my SSD plugged in. This is most likely the result of my recent struggle with partitions, but that was on my HDD. My SSD contains my OS partitions. I've also asked people on Reddit about this, but they weren't able to find a solution. Please help, I'm at my wits end, I don't understand what is going on, some people on Reddit are even calling this witchcraft.
