I've tried adding acpi=noirq to my grub boot options but it didn't work and it ended up disabling my keyboard.
When I type sudo pm-hibernate and turn the computer back on it starts up normally.
Is there something else I could try?
I used to be able to address my old server at "dckr1.local", I setup a new hirsute server and change the /etc/hosts lien to read:
127.0.0.1 dckr1.local dckr1
and added to /etc/resolv.conf
search local
domain local
but can't get it for the life of me to work when I reboot. resolve.conf gets overwritten. Not sure if by something in systemd or something it's calling like cloud.init.
How do I know what the proper syntax for netplan is? I've looked up the netplan docs online and everything I try gives me KEY errors when I try to use netplan generate.
External USB drives stopped AUTO-MOUNTING after upgrade to XENIAL. How do I restore that feature? My default session is KODI.
My MCE remote is working in Xenial, yet no LIRC is installed. Everything works on it except the OK and the BACK button. What service is using it? and how do I configure it to fix the OK and BACK, button? Did Lirc get replaced by something else?

I have 1tb external drive that connects to my media server in my kids room. One day the XBMCBUNTU(xenial) running on the media server decided it no longer wanted to communicate with that drive. It does not even show up with 'fdisk -l', however, if I unplug it from the media center and plug into my MAC running PARAGON EXTFS I can see the partition and the kids movies and play them without a problem.
Is there anything that I could use to make the drive show up in fdisk so that I can mount it? or is there a config file that controls how drives are enumerated that maybe got corrupted or something? or is there something that can diagnose problems with my MBR?
I have a NON-UEFI laptop. However UBUNTU keeps detecting and wanting to install UEFI. Obviously the system never boots if I allow it to install in UEFI mode. Once a UEFI partition and installation has been created I can only boot from AMD64+MAC images, as standard images give me and "error file '/boot/' not found" and grub2 freezes and hangs up the machine. I can only reboot after that. I can however wipe the partition table and the LIVE USB installer will boot up just fine. What command line options can I give to tell it to install in BIOS BOOT mode and not UEFI?
After numerous do-release-upgrades from 14.04, I'm have issues with my LCD display.
Can I just delete /etc/X11 and it will all recreate itself? Or what exactly can be done?
I lost power during a do-release-upgrade from trusty to wiley. I booted with a live USB stick and ran the following:

How would I fix this?
I have a Lenovo Z475 which does not support UEFI booting. So it freezes on grub. All the AMD64+MAC editions are all OLD distros. Is there any distro still being made and supported in AMD64+MAC?
I have Kubuntu 13.04 installed on an HP envy DV7 with the dual graphics chipsets intel 4000 and Nvidia 630M. And when I try to reduce my screen brightness it doesn´t actually go down until it reaches 10%. I´m running the standard nouveau drivers, no proprietary drivers.
My wireless disconnects(randomly, but I'm sure it's when power saving kicks in) whenever power management is enabled. The only thing that keeps it from happening is to keeping the wifi power management = off, adding the file: “/etc/pm/power.d/wireless”

When I upgraded to Ubuntu 13.04 the file manager lost the ability to connect to windows shares as a specific user(from 'connect to server') from the file manager. I could be connected to z share as one user and x share as another, but now connect to server offers no place to add credentials as it used to. When I try without credentials, I get an error that says "UNABLE TO ACCESS LOCATION - FAILED TO MOUNT WINDOWS SHARE - PERMISSION DENIED". I find screenshots where it's supposed to prompt me for a username and password, But I never get it. Just an error. Is there something that maybe carried over from the previous version? Should I delete ~/.nautilus? or something?
I have a new Lenovo z475 that I loaded Ubuntu 12.10 amd64+mac version onto. Everything works well except when I open the lid of my laptop after having closed it. It seems to freeze. I can't ping it or anything. I have AMD Vision Chipset. I have a Radeon HD 6520G using the x.org driver.

How are my php extensions loading if there are no extension=* statements in my php.ini? Does it just automatically load everything in my /conf.d/ directory? I can even find the path to /conf.d/ specified in php.ini.
I have a Hewlett Packard DV6. I connected to the access point. I receive an IP address/default gateway/DNS,etc(DHCP). I cannot ping my gateway. DNS lookups fails. There is just no connectivity. My driver is listed as being IWLWIFI. An lspci shows my card to be a Realtek RTL8101E/RTL8102E. I can't ping myself from another computer.

When I plug my headphones in after upgrading to ubuntu 12.04, it no longer mutes by speakers,and I also do not have a headphones output as I did previously. I recall having to go into a conf file and disable FRONT PANEL AUDIO or something like that; and everything began to work fine. I have an HP DV6.
Is there anyway to see what my alsa-base.conf was before the upgrade?
How does one go about removing the packages installed by ubuntu-desktop. I couldn't imagine going back to that after using LXDE.
How do you tell unity to startup in 2d and compatibility mode? If you have to run a UNITY --replace after startup it doesn't kill the currently running unity and you end-up with two toolbars. One superimposed over the other. I would assume the best way to fix this is to have unity 2d start off in compatibility mode right off the bat.
