I used to be able to press the Super key when I had multiple windows open, so I could visualize them all at the same time and decide which ones to close or move to.

Now the Super key doesn't do that sort of thing, it just shows the Search box on top and my workspaces on the right, but that's all, see the screenshot below.

I have seen other questions like this one, but people reported no functionality at all (I have some functionality), plus they are over 3 months old and apparently that bug got solved... I never experienced a problem around 3 months ago, only now, and seems slightly different... Anyone got any clue? Thanks.

Noob question, why the default Download server in Software & Updates is United States when my location is Singapore?

Furthermore, when I click "Other" and attempt to "Select the best server", I am almost always pointed to a US server, or sometimes a European one, but never an Asian one (and there are actually a few in Singapore).

This only happens in Ubuntu, and only with Firefox; Chrome seems to be able to determine my current location (although slightly inaccurate). Is there any particular setting for Ubuntu to allow Firefox to determine the location properly?

Firefox does determine the location in my Mac, and Chrome does determine the location in Ubuntu, so it is something specific to Firefox in Ubuntu, which is strange since it comes installed by default and it's the default browser.

Any clue?

To try to reproduce this behavior, open https://www.google.com/maps/ and click on the location dot, allow location access when prompted.

In my case, it shows the following:

I recently installed Ubuntu 20.04 and now, while Location Services are enabled in the Settings, I do not see the location icon in my top bar, and services requiring my location cannot retrieve it.

See it is enabled in Settings:

But my top bar does not have the location icon that used to show there:

And services like Google Maps do not seem to be able to retrieve my location. See below in Firefox, even though I allowed it...

Any clue? I use Google maps on my laptop quite frequently, so it is quite important to me...

Not sure if the same problem as here. I have made a fresh installation of Ubuntu 20.04 and added my Google accounts in the Online Accounts of the Settings app.

At the beginning I could perfectly see all my calendars in the GNOME Calendar. But not sure what I might have installed that now the calendars are gone...

I think it happened right after installing the Arc Menu extension, which required me to install the following dependencies as:

sudo apt install gnome-shell-extensions gnome-menus gir1.2-gmenu-3.0

So now I cannot see my Google calendars in GNOME Calendar anymore:

In Ubuntu 20.04, when I use the Tweaks app to change the titlebar buttons to the left (instead of the default right), the titlebar becomes greyed out (or rather black).

It seems that placing the buttons on the left does not leave enough space for the side navigation block with the default window size for Tweaks.

Sometimes, when I open Tweaks and I see the titlebar has been greyed out, I change the window size and the titlebar appears again, but this does not always happen.

Here we see the correct titlebar with the buttons on the right by default.

The moment I change the buttons to the left, the title bar becomes black and the side navigation block disappears.

If I resize the window (so the navigation block can be seen again), the titlebar returns, but this not always happens.

Even when the titlebar returns by readjusting the window size, I feel like the buttons position is not completely correct... See for example the Settings window below, which also has a side navigation block and gives me no problem whatsoever. The close, minimize and maximize buttons are not all the way to the left, but stop at the side navigation block (or maybe it is not correct in Settings...).

Any clue why this happens and how to solve it? Or am I stuck with titlebar buttons on the right only? Thanks!

Workspaces indicator (https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/21/workspace-indicator/) does not work for me in Ubuntu 19.04, which is weird cause it is one of the default extensions, and everyone at extensions.gnome.org claims it works.

What can I do to fix this? Is it possible? Thanks!

Anyone else has problems with the 'Workspaces to Dock' extension in Ubuntu 18.04? I can install it with no problem from:

https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/427/workspaces-to-dock/

But every time I reboot, it does not load, and I see a warning sign in the GNOME Tweaks with the following message:

Error loading extension

Any clue?

Running the following command, as suggested in the comments, I spotted the following lines, which might be relevant.

sudo journalctl /usr/bin/gnome-shell | grep workspaces

I am missing the Problem Reporting option in Privacy Settings, and I wanted to set it as manual. It was there when I installed Ubuntu, but now it's gone.

To clarify, I have Ubuntu 18.04 with the Pop theme and icons. The Problem Reporting option was there even after installing that theme.

Literally the only thing I did after a fresh install was following some of the steps in the following links; on one of the reboots, the option was gone forever.

How can I get that option back?

I have this exact keyboard, with US ANSI layout:

I have just installed Ubuntu 18.04. In Region & Language, Language is defined as English (United States), Formats is United States (English), and the Input Sources is English (US).

All keys seem to map correctly except for the BACKSLASH KEY (\ and |). When I click on the backslash key, it maps to the </> (highlighted in red in the photo below) instead of the actual backslash key (highlighted in green).

See the photo I just took to see what happens... I have no way of typing \ and | (in fact I had to copy them from internet to ask this question), which is an absolute disaster.

How can I solve this??

I uninstalled Okular in Ubuntu 18.04 but its icon still persists in Show Applications (not the usual icon however, but a generic one, see screenshot below).

I have checked ~/.local/share/applications and /usr/share/applications for a .desktop file, but I don't find any there that belong to Okular.

I have tried all the following commands with no success:

sudo apt remove okular
sudo apt remove --auto-remove okular
sudo apt purge okular
sudo apt purge --auto-remove okular

How can I remove the Okular icon from the Show Applications menu??

I am on an Ubuntu 18.04 machine with R version 3.5.1, installed following this link. I am trying to install the CRAN package rJava, which I do the following way (as seen here):

sudo apt-get install r-cran-rjava

However, I get this:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 r-cran-rjava : Depends: r-api-3.4
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

But when I try:

sudo apt-get install r-api-3.4

I get:

E: Package 'r-api-3.4' has no installation candidate

How to overcome this problem with r-api-3.4? Basically, I need to install rJava to be able to install and use XLConnect... In Ubuntu 16.04, I had no problems whatsoever...

EDIT:

Apparently, r-api-3.4 should be provided by r-base-core. I do have r-base-core installed in its newest version, why do I still see errors then?

I have a Dell Precision Tower 5810, and I was trying to install Ubuntu 18.04 on it. I created a bootable usb with Roofus 3.1 in Windows 10 (as described here).

Then tried to follow Dell's guide here, but I could not find the file SHIMx64.EFI...

Still I made sure the Secure Boot was enabled, the Legacy Option ROMs was not enabled, and the Boot Option was set to UEFI, pushed my usb stick to the top in the Boot Sequence, and exited.

It booted with no problem to my usb stick, showing the options "Try Ubuntu", "Install Ubuntu", etc. But whichever option I used, led me to a blank screen...

Eventually, thanks to this, I added the nomodeset option and I could access the "Try Ubuntu" option... I installed Ubuntu and the installation went through with no problem at all.

Now Ubuntu boots, but the instant the login screen shows up, the screen goes blank (without even letting me type my credentials). I tried pressing the Right Shift key like specified here, but to no avail. I checked all the "Similar Questions" suggested, but none of them work.

Note that the first time I booted after the fresh install, I saw a "Perform MOK management" screen with the following options, but I just selected "Continue to boot".

Any clue anyone? I really need this computer working (with Ubuntu 18.04 if possible) asap! Many many thanks.

I am experiencing this problem for the first time with Ubuntu 16.04, after a fresh installation.

Skype cannot be located after enabling Canonical Partners both in Software & Update, or by command line with the command:

sudo add-apt-repository "deb http://archive.canonical.com/   $(lsb_release -sc) partner"

Then running the following:

sudo apt-get update 
sudo apt-get install skype

However, I still get:

E: Unable to locate package skype

Any clue?

I run "sudo apt-get update --fix-missing" before trying to install skype, and this is the output I get:

I have a brand new Dell Precision Tower 5000 Series (5810) that just came with Ubuntu 14.04 pre-installed. Instead of upgrading to 16.04, I made a fresh installation (no dual boots).

I was not able to boot from USB, but luckily I had a DVD with 16.04. Installation using the DVD went with no problem.

During the installation, I was able to select Singapore as my location. However, once I opened Ubuntu for the first time, I noticed the following:

1. It is showing a totally incorrect time, around 7h ahead.

2. It claims it is Jakarta time (which is not) when I explicitly selected Singapore during the installation.

3. It shows weekday and month in Indonesian, even when everything is set to English.

4. It does not find anymore "Singapore" in the Time & Date settings, even when I was able to select it during installation.

Please check the images attached, at the time of writing this it's 9:20AM, not 4:20PM.

Why don't I have more options for LVDS-0?

I don't seem to be able to Mirror the displays either...

I am using the recommended nvidia driver:

NOTE

It is not a problem with the second screen, but with Ubuntu/Nvidia themselves... because when I am not connected to a second screen, I still cannot change the resolution.

Please help! I need to be able to:

1- Change the resolution on the laptop screen (with or without a second screen associated)

2- Use mirror displays when a second screen is present
