I have a lot a WebM files mixed with PNG and JPEG files in a folder.
I would like to find an image viewer (or a video player ?) that will allow me to browse through those JPEG, PNG and WebM files. It would be perfect if I could display a diaporama of all those mixed files.
Does an WebM compatible image viewer currently exist ? Or maybe a WebM greffon for the default Ubuntu image viewer ?

I am trying to install Ubuntu 14.04 / 15.10 on my Dell XPS 13 9350 (November 2015).
I created a bootable USB disk which boots fine but the installer and the file manager do not detect the hard drive.

I am currently configuring my touchpad and noticed that I can put my Synaptics configuration file (50-synaptics.conf) in two different locations :
/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-synaptics.conf
And
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-synaptics.conf
Both are working fine. Which one is better to use in this case? Or is this completely irrelevant ?

I installed Ubuntu 15.10. My touchpad works in I2C bus AND PS2 mode.
I want to blacklist the I2C mode. On Ubuntu 14.04/15.04 I executed :
sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
I added the following line at the end :
blacklist i2c_hid
But this does not work on Ubuntu 15.10 anymore.
Blacklisting other modules (like psmouse for example) does not work either. Am I missing something ?
Is the process of blacklisting kernel modules in Ubuntu 15.10 (kernel 4.2) different now ?

I want to delete the content of the folder (NASA/) except specified folders and files.
For example I want to keep a folder, b folder and x file.
I tried this solution :
rm !(a/) -r NASA/
And (as explained in the answer here):
find NASA/ -type f ! -iname "x" -delete
But this is not very straight forward and I have to use a bash script.
Am I missing a more easy way ? How can I do this in a single command?
I have a Kinect v2 and I am trying to connect it to my laptop using libfreenect2.

I have an Intel GPU, installed beignet-dev for OpenCL

Build the executable

sudo make install
Everything successfully installed and the build was successful too.
Launch the program
sudo ./bin/Protonect

The kinect is connected on a USB 3.0 (required) port and I am using Ubuntu 15.04.
What am I missing here ?
Since today I encounter weird graphical artifact when using Chromium ( makes it unusable).
It does not happen in Firefox or any other application.

Out of curiosity I installed Chrome but the exact same thing happen.
I was wondering if it is a known problem with one recent update or if the problem come from my graphics card ?

I have a 4k display. By default the Ubuntu Unity interface is small and hardly readable.
After changing Parameters > Display and Scale for menu and title bars to 2
the interface is now perfectly readable.
The problem is when the mouse cursor hovers over unity interface items (like Taskbar or System Settings for example) the mouse cursor is not scaled anymore and becomes 2 times smaller. The same happens in Nemo File Browser.
This problem appears in Ubuntu 14.04 but also in Ubuntu 15.04.
What is the cause of this problem ? Can I solve it ?
I have read of a lot of questions about SSD optimization (How do I optimize the OS for SSDs?, Installing Ubuntu on a SSD, I'm confused about SSD optimization, etc...).
Most of those questions seem outdated (3+ years old) and I am a little bit confused with all the directions the answers are taking.
So my question is : As of today, what is the general consensus about SSD optimization on Ubuntu 14.04 / 15.04 ?
Is this even needed now ?
I have a 4 year old Acer Aspire 5742G with an Intel Core i5 and 6GB of RAM.
Recently the laptop has started overheating very frequently. On Ubuntu it overheats to the point that it shuts itself down.
Under Windows the computer overheats too, but never to the point of shutting down.
I have no idea where to begin to search for the cause. I am thinking it is maybe because the nVidia GPU is used all the time instead of the Intel iGPU (I am not even sure if it is the case).
Or maybe I have a process that use a lot of CPU?
What I can do to find the overheat cause and troubleshoot it?

I hesitate about keeping my touchscreen disabled on my Ubuntu installation.
I disabled it by adding Option "Ignore" "on" to the

Does disabling (or ignoring) the touchscreen extend battery life or does it have any impact ?
I am having trouble making Bluetooth working on my Dell XPS 13. Under kernel 3.19 I managed to get it working by using the firmware from the Windows driver (see here).
For various reasons I had to upgrade to a 4.x kernel version. Now Bluetooth is not working anymore even with the previous workaround.
The Bluetooth card is a Broadcom 216F BT.

For future references I have a Dell XPS 13 9353 (2015)
I have a laptop with a QHD+ screen (XPS 13 2015 9343) with Ubuntu 15.04 and kernel 4.1.3.
When I shut down the Ubuntu logo go to the top of the screen, the left of the screen then back to center. I have no problem at startup.
The problem is related to plymouth so tried to run sudo update-alternatives --config default.plymouth and changing the default options but none of them work.
How can I solve this ? Thanks in advance.
I can not manage to get the wifi works when updating my kernel to 4.x. During the installation, the Broadcom wireless driver failed to compile.
I am getting this error :
