I'm trying to build an old linux driver in my system (Kubuntu 21.10) with make -C ....
The driver is declaring static struct timeval frame_timestamp;

If I try to build it with something like

make -C /lib/modules/`uname -r`/build M=`pwd` V=1  modules

I'm getting ... has an incomplete type ‘struct timeval’ error and some other related errors.
So I believe I must include sys/time.h with #include <sys/time.h> into the code.
But in this case I'm getting fatal error: sys/time.h: No such file or directory. And I cant't find a way to resolve this. (The code already had some includes but none from sys/, they are all from linux/ and media/)

I ended up with a following Makefile:

obj-m := mydriver.o
KDIR := /lib/modules/$(shell uname -r)/build
PWD := $(shell pwd)

default:
    $(MAKE) -C $(KDIR) SUBDIRS=$(PWD) M=$(PWD) V=1 modules

The KDIR resolves into /lib/modules/5.13.0-21-generic/build which links to /usr/src/linux-headers-5.13.0-21-generic. There is no sys/time.h.

locate sys/time.h returns:

/usr/include/i386-linux-gnu/sys/time.h
/usr/include/sys/time.h
/usr/include/x86_64-linux-gnu/sys/time.h

which belongs to libc6-dev and libc6-dev-i386:.
dpkg -l *5.13.0-21* gives:

I was trying to hardcode -I /usr/include/x86_64-linux-gnu/ into make -C - this has no effect.
I also tried to download a vanilla kernel from kernel.org: https://cdn.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v5.x/linux-5.13.tar.xz and hardcode it as KDIR - that doesn't help and it's not containing sys/time.h either.

The question is: how to force my module build process to see the sys/time.h?
Does linux module allowed to link to libc? If it's not a part of the kernel, how to make it available for module buildprocess?

I'm trying to build a deb according to the https://packaging.ubuntu.com/html/packaging-new-software.html
Everything was working 6 months ago. Now when I execute: bzr dh-make hello 2.10 hello-2.10.tar.gz I'm getting:

brz: ERROR: unknown command "dh-make"

I tried to apt install -reinstall: bzr, bzr-builddeb, dh-make
That doesn't help. My packages are:

bzr 2.7.0+bzr6622+brz
bzr-builddeb 2.8.12+brz
devscripts 2.21.1ubuntu1
dh-make 2.202003

$ python -V
Python 3.9.5

System: Kubuntu 21.04

What can be wrong and how to debug?

I have a package that can be build for both groovy and xenial. Ubuntu groovy have libpng-dev that resolves to libpng16. Plus it has libpng12. Xenial has no libpng-dev or libpng16. It has only libpng12-dev. It's ok for me to build the app with libpng12 on xenial, but I wan't to use libpng16 on groovy.

Also xenial's debhelper seems to not provide debhelper-compat.

Thus I need Build-Depends: debhelper-compat (=9), libpng-dev(>=1.2.0) for groovy and Build-Depends: debhelper (>=9.0), libpng12-dev(>=1.2.0) for xenial.

My package version is app-1.0-0ubuntu1_i386.deb

Launchpad seems to not allow building same source twice in same PPA. You can copy binaries between series, but not rebuild the source. It seems launchpad ignores that "0-ubuntu1" part of version when make this decision. Also it doesn't allow to upload any version less then it already have. So even if I end up with some series-dependent Build-Depends: in debian/control file - I couldn't benefit from this as source will be build only once. And I don't want to increment app version twice just to backport to xenial.

Are there any elegant solution for this problem?

I'm trying to submit a deb to my PPA according to this manual:

I'm able to build my app with bzr builddeb -- -nc -us -uc and to sign it with bzr builddeb -S. But execution of pbuilder-dist groovy build myproject_0.2.8-1.dsc in ../build-area fails.

So, cmake is checking that /usr/c++ supports -fno-keep-inline-dllexport. Compiller ends with 1 bcs it doesn't support it, cmake returns 2 and dh_auto_configure painics.

If I execute cmake on my system I'm getting following stdout:

So even compiller on my system doesn't support -fno-keep-inline-dllexport. And I'm fine with that. It doesn't matter for me. cmake not fails.

It looks that the failed check of non-mandatory feature by cmake ruins whole pbuilder-dist process. Are there any way to change this behaviour or i'm missing something?

P.s. My build-depends are: debhelper-compat (= 13), cmake (>=2.8.9), gcc (>=4.6), qt5-qmake (>= 5.4), qtbase5-dev (>= 5.4), libtiff5-dev (>= 4.0.3), libjpeg8-dev (>= 8c), libpng-dev (>=1.6.2)

I'm trying to package a Qt 5.x application as described in https://packaging.ubuntu.com/html/packaging-new-software.html
My Build-Depends in debian/control file are:
debhelper-compat (= 13), libqt5widgets5 (>=5.4), libqt5xml5 (>=5.4), libqt5gui5 (>=5.4), libqt5core5a (>=5.4), libtiff5 (>=4.0.3), libjpeg8 (>=8c), libgcc1 (>=1.3.0), libc6 (>=2.14), libpng16-16 (>=1.6.2-1), libstdc++6 (>=5.2)
I'm building deb with bzr builddeb -- -us -uc

Unfortunately build process fails bcs it tries to launch test cases after binary compilation and one of them is crashing. The test case uses QPainter that requires an instance of QApplication to work. And it seems app crashes at creation of QApplication. The output is:

qt.qpa.xcb: could not connect to display 
qt.qpa.plugin: Could not load the Qt platform plugin "xcb" in "" even though it was found.
This application failed to start because no Qt platform plugin could be initialized. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

Available platform plugins are: wayland-org.kde.kwin.qpa, dxcb, eglfs, linuxfb, minimal, minimalegl, offscreen, vnc, wayland-egl, wayland, wayland-xcomposite-egl, wayland-xcomposite-glx, xcb.

So my guess is that bzr is trying to run the app in some clean environment that is made based on my Build-Depends list. And this list misses something that's required by qt5/plugins/platforms/libqxcb.so.

The question is: what can it be and how to track this down?
I can execute ldd on my machine, but i need it in bzr environment.

I'm trying to set up proxy autoconfiguration in my FireFox 45.0 under Kubuntu 15.10. I'm specifying a path to PAC file in FF's Preferences\Advanced\Settings\"Automatic proxy configuration URL". It works for a few minutes and then stops. When I check this setting again I'm able to see the path in the corresponding field but setting's radiobutton is switched back to "Use system proxy settings".

I suspect there is a system demon that resets my change. What is a correct way to do this in FF under Kubuntu?
