There are a ton of threads on this topic, but no simple and definitive answers.

Can someone please tell me how to permanently disable cell rounding on the .csv file which is created by script?

Basically, '377635637222436751' is being converted to '377635637222437000' automatically and that isn't really acceptable for my needs.

I've tried this:
Tools->Options->Calc->Calculate "Precision as shown"

and this:
Format > Cells > Numbers > Category > (scroll down for) Text.
(but considering my script creates the .csv -- this option isn't very good since it must be done after the file is created)

And neither is working. The number stays rounded -- even after formatting the column after the file is created.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I could use a little help with my IF and && statement. It's not working and nothing I'm trying is working either. Maybe someone can see the issue:

if [[ $thisvariable="yes" && grep 'this string' ./"$thisfile".txt ]]; then

This just doesn't work. Does anyone see an issue?

I have a bunch of .html files in a directory. I want to look through each file and match a pattern (MD5). All of that is easy enough. The problem is I need to know what file the match was found in.

cat *.html | grep 75447A831E943724DD2DE9959E72EE31

Only returns the HTML page content where the match is found, but it doesn't tell me the file which it was found in. How can I get grep to show me the filename where my match is found?

I have a filename variable that sometimes gets set as:

attachment; 
JobRunStatisticsReport_20150122.zip

In the File Manager window, it looks like this:

I need help coming up with an IF statement that says:

IF $filename contains 'attachment; \n' then

and then help with a SED that looks for that new line character (\n) and replaces that and everything before it with nothing.

Can anyone lend a quick hand please?

I have: This is my zip file.zip in path $dec

If I manually copy this code over to the terminal window, I get the correct output.

But, if I take the same exact code and put it into a .sh file and execute it with set -x, I get this:

$dec is already defined. I just left it out of this partial script.

I'm trying to come up with the syntax for a regex in an IF statement, but I'm not quickly having success... Can anyone lend a quick hand please?

I want to mv files and not overwrite duplicates. The -b switch only makes a single backup file, whereas I may have many.

According to the mv man page:

The backup suffix is '~', unless set with --suffix or SIMPLE_BACKUP_SUFFIX. The version control method may be selected via the --backup option or through the VERSION_CONTROL environment variable. Here are the values:

none, off: never make backups (even if --backup is given)
numbered, t: make numbered backups
existing, nil: numbered if numbered backups exist, simple otherwise
simple, never: always make simple backups

I think I want to use the 'existing, nil' option... but I can't figure out how to call that.

If my command is:

mv $src $dest

How can I implement the 'existing, nil' option?

I'm trying to match a pattern and then pull the following information to create a file using that variable.

Example (my data may look like either of the 2 examples)

Basically I'm trying to create a new file named as the filename. So example 1 has a really long filename with spaces and hypens, example 2 has a short filename. Example 1 is identified by 'tfilename' and example 2 'filename' .

Obviously I don't need the double quotes.

Can anyone assist with this please?

I need a bash command to delete the entire file if the file itself begins with <html>.

I'm not sure the best way to go about this...

Context: I download a series of files via curl requests. Most time the downloads and processing work fine. But other times the download request results in a 404 for whatever reason. When I get those, the contents of the downloaded file begins with a html tag. When the rest of my processing hits this file, it hangs. So I want to run a command prior to my other processing to cat each of the files and delete the file if it has this html tag.

I'm trying to remove the \n and the \ from the above string.

I've tried:

tr ‘\n\r\\’ ‘   ‘

sed 's/\n//g;s;\\;;g'

And a few other variations, but I'm not successful in stripping everything. I can get the \ but not the n.

Does anyone see my error?

I hope I can post this here without having it pulled down.

I have 2 seemingly identical base64 encoded files. The first I copied down manually. The second was pulled down via a script. I used cmp to try to find any differences. I do not see any differences in the file... EXCEPT....

The file that I copied manually adds the base64 encoded text on over 1200 lines. The file that was pulled down via the script adds the base64 text on only 1 line.

When I run the base64 -d command against the file I created manually, I get the decoded text into an archive file

When I run the base64 -d command against the file created by the script, I get this error:
base64: invalid input

This code works on the 1200 lines of code:

base64 -d order_id > order_id3.zip

This code DOES NOT work on the 1 line of code

base64 -d Note_3316_copy > note.zip

Can anyone see why this is not working?
