I have a odf document containing various images: jpg and png mostly.
When I export it to pdf, in the resulting pdf file I can't see any picture but only the text.
Any idea why? Oh and I think it stopped working after a general ubuntu 20.04 update that I performed.

I have been trying to encrypt an external hd but I do not get the encryption option in Disks when I start the formatting process.
I have installed cryptsetup but I still does not work
I have an encrypted ssd (that I need to sell) and I need to format it.
Can I assume that previous data, after a normal format (no shredding), will be not be accessible anymore due to the fact that encryption was in place? Or is same sort of safe erasure still required to assure that data are really lost for good?
I need to safely format my hardrive. I booted from a usb key and I am planning to run the following command on the whole hard drive:
sudo shred -v -n3 -z /dev/the-partition
My question is: how do I identify all the partitions that there are in order to totally wipe out the hard drive?

I have a massive issue with my laptop. The sound card is not recognized at times. I am on 16.04 and basically it works very well at times and not at all the rest of the times.
I would understand if it did no work at all but this intermittent behaviour sounds riduculous to me. It is still a computer isn't it?
I have tried mitigating the porblem editing /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf and adding the following entry:
modprobe snd-hda-intel model=acer # I have an acer, yes!
but I had no luck with it.
Any idea?
I have a problem with the built-in microphone of my laptop (ubuntu 16.04). Now I am sure it is a problem with the driver and I have no intention to fix it as it is a pain and I have already wasted enough time on it.
I was wondering though, if using an external microphone could be a solution. In other words: does the fact that the internal microphone is not working imply that any other plugged microphone will not work either?

I installed 18.04.2 LTS on my laptop and my microphone does not work anymore. Anyone knows how to fix that?

I was running a upgrade of the various packages and I got a message saying I did not have enough space (weird). That happened after a boot that went wrong and I had to turn off my pc holding down the power button. After restarting it I run apt-get autoremove (to free some space) and then the upgrade worked.

I have an external HD that, when plugged in, is accessible at: /media/myusername/79039342-7793-4990-9eae-95ef3d4a9331.
I figured out it's the drive called /dev/sdb (with a single partition in it sdb1).
Fine!
Thing is, it is not writeable.
If I try:
sudo mount -o remount,uid=1000,gid=1000,rw /dev/sdb1
I get:
/media/myusername/79039342-7793-4990-9eae-95ef3d4a9331 not mounted or bad option
So the question is: how do I make it writeable?
I am making some tests with my router and it looks like the mac address I change by doing:
ifconfig eth0 down
ifconfig eth0 hw ether 01:02:03:04:05:06
ifconfig eth0 up
Gets changed to the original one when connecting to the rooter. I am on ubuntu
