I received an Amazon Echo device as a gift. It included instructions for activating and installing Alexa, but only for Windows and Mac.
A query to the Amazon help line returned a brief reply that Linux was not supported.
Has anyone tried (successfully) to install Alexa on this device?
I installed FreeBasic under Ubuntu 14 using the provided shell installer, and received a message that the installation was successful.
But, when I attempt to run the compiler it gives a list of missing -dev files,
only two of which I was able to locate in repositories.
The installation README indicates that some of the listed dependencies may have different names in some Linux dialects.
How do I locate the missing dependencies in Ubuntu?
I have Windows XP on my first hard drive, and have installed a second empty hard drive.
When I load the Ubuntu 14.04 installation disk and try to install, I chose Something Else to mean that I want to install Linux on the second empty hard drive.
When I click install I get a message saying that I haven't specified a root and should use the partition table.
Every time I indicate repartition, I get the same message ("no root").
The 14.04 installation disk is unclear about how to install on an empty second drive. If I select the side-by-side option for installation, then it wants to install Linux on the same drive as XP, which is not what I want.
The empty hard drive is NTFS. Do I have to find some way to reformat it for ext4 without the Ubuntu installation disk, and then try to install?? The menus on the 14.04 installation disk are very poorly written.
I presently am running WinXP from my primary internal SATA drive, and Ubuntu 14.04 from an external USB drive. I have installed a new internal SATA secondary hard drive. Is it possible to MOVE or COPY my USB drive's contents to the secondary internal drive, OR should I simply reinstall Linux from scratch onto the internal drive, run updates, and then copy my home directory from USB to the internal drive ? [I am planning to dual boot on the two internal drives by having Linux replace the primary drive's MBR with GRUB.]
