A user on the Ask Ubuntu General Room posted a link to Badlock. After some googling around, all I can find is that it is a mysterious security bug, that uses the same website template as Heartbleed.
I manage Linux Servers, a mysterious security bug does not sit well with me. What exactly is it, and how can I protect my servers from it?
I messed up my system earlier, I was greeted with a black screen, when booting in to Ubuntu. When I started up my laptop, I selected the recovery option from the grub menu, and chose fallback at root terminal. I saw that I was able to use the add user command, with it, I probably could use to create a privileged user on my machine.
Isn't that a security issue?
One could have stolen my laptop and at startup chose recovery and add another user, I'm fudged then. Including my data.
Come to think of it, even if you somehow remove that entry, one could boot from a live-CD, get a chroot up and running and then add another user, with the right privileges that allows it to see all my data.
If I set the BIOS to boot at my HD only, no USB, CD/DVD, Network startup, and set a BIOS password, it still wouldn't matter, because you'd still have that grub recovery startup entry.
I am fairly certain that someone from China, Russia can't hack my Ubuntu Trusty Tahr, from the network, because it's secure like that. But, if one has physical access to my - your - machine, then, well, that's why I'm asking this question. How can I secure my machine so that hacking through physical access is not possible?

As I have been told, there Is no 'official' method to replace MS Server completely, but yet for each usage case, requires another set of software, I will rephrase this on what I want know.
I am looking for a way to install packages on my Ubuntu client from my Ubuntu Server!
To give you an image on what I want, is this, select my client and install the software I want to install on it, from my server!

Apple and Microsoft have their own courses, which give you a certification if you pass them. I could not find a definitive answer on whether Ubuntu Online courses, or any other Ubuntu training programs, exist.

I often use the terminal to add a PPA to my resources list, only to find out afterwards that the PPA doesn't support my Ubuntu version. Allas, thus am greeted with an error:

I messed up my phpmyadmin, I haven't logged in phpmyadmin for a while and as a result I forgot my password.
I decided to purge PHPMyAdmin:
sudo apt-get purge phpmyadmin
I did get some error messages asking for my password, but I forgot that, so I just pressed ignore, after that, I installed phpmyadmin again:
sudo apt-get install phpmyadmin
But now, when I logging to my phpmyadmin, I get a 404 not found error page!?
How do i completely remove phpmyadmin?

I was in my Virtualbox running 12.04 trying to compile an app, and while waiting I happened to chance upon a forum where a comment said:

Without thinking, I ran it in my gnome-terminal. It made my 12.04(in Virtualbox) lag so badly, I had to shut it down.
My question is what does this command do?

I want to hide, most of the folders in root (/) using Nautilus. Probably the only folders in / I want shown are /home and /tmp.
In addition to hiding folders, I also want to hide two files: initrd.img and initrd.img.old.
I find such a setup to be pro-noob, and looks a lot slicker too. How can I hide those folders and files?
I used to use cmd back in windows, and the command line I used a lot, was cls. It's kind of like the clear command used in Linux, but it cleans the screen permanently.
If you use the clear command, it just scroll down, so that you don't see the command you where working on.
I like both a lot, but my question is, how do i get a cls like command, that clears the screen, and can't browse up, to see the command you where working on?
I just got a message from the default disk analyses software (Baobab)
that I only have 1GB left on the hard drive. After some search, I found that the /var/log/ folder is the cause of this.
Some file/sizes in /var/log/:
Et cetera et cetera. /var/log is huge.
Can I delete those files or the entire /var/log folder? Or is that a BIG NO NO in Ubuntu?
PCSX2(playstation 2 emulator) won't work under Ubuntu 11.10 x64. It worked when I was running Ubuntu 11.10 x86.
When I downloaded the pcsx2-0.9.8-r4594-linux.tar.gz I extracted it in the home directory and run the launch_pcsx2_linux.sh file, it closed immediately. When I open GNOME-terminal and typed in: ./launch_pcsx2_linux.sh I got the following error:

When I type sudo apt-get install libwxbase2.8-0 it says that it is already installed.
I can't really find a great disk analyzing software for Ubuntu.
The default apps in Ubuntu, Baobab (and df -h) do work, but there are no advanced features.
What I am looking for is like glary utilities disk analysis, to search for those file that take too much disk space.
