I would like to convert a pdf to an word or ODF file.
If found several programs like Okular, but I don't know how to do that.
Edit: It is a text pdf, not an image pdf.

What could be a reason, why my mobile internet UMTS card is not recognized by modem-manager-gui or by the NetworkManager? My laptop is a Lenovo X1. I once saw it recognized, but after a reboot it disappeared.
My problem is as simple: I have HP Deskjet 5550 connected to my Windows 10. Printing from Win 10 works. I can't print from my Ubuntu. They are connected in a network. (Prior to this setup I was using a Windows XP where printing was no problem.)
When adding a new printer in Ubuntu, I always get asked for authentification on my Windows PC, but there authentification is turned off. Next, my credentials used on the Windows PC don't work for this authentification dialog (asking for user name, domain and password). Anybody knows what this authentification dialog is for? (Under Win 10, all steps for a working samba configuration have been taken - as far as known)
Ubuntu 16.04 automatically switches to the lowest screen resolution after I close my Laptop's screen on the external monitor and open it again.
My solution so far is:
press [Fn+] F7
Anyway this is annoying, because I need my Laptop's keyboard. I don't know which event this is for Ubuntu. Sometimes, it occurs after login. I need to open my laptop and press F7 to reactivate the usual resolution.
Another way the system is wrong behaving is when I boot the system and login, the lowest screen resolution is used (the Laptop screen is closed all the time).
I upgraded my system from Ubuntu 14.10 to Ubuntu 15.04 flawlessly. But for some reason, it always jumps straight into standby (suspend) mode directly after login. I have to use the notebook's power button to wake it up, then it's finally logged in and I can use the system. This is annoying. I'm using a Thinkpad T61.
Here's the log immediatly befor it jumps into suspend:
moon:/var/log$ cat syslog|grep suspend
May 16 19:27:20 moon kernel: [ 838.913403] Suspending console(s) (use to_console_suspend to debug)

May 16 19:27:20 moon kernel: [ 839.392466] PM: late suspend of devices complete after 0.564 msecs
May 16 19:27:20 moon kernel: [ 839.408169] PM: noirq suspend of devices complete after 15.699 msecs

I downloaded the game pacapong for Linux and tried to run the executable, which results in the error:
$ ./runner
./runner: error while loading shared libraries: libopenal.so.1:
cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Obviously, there is the necessity of loading libopenal.so.1
:
$ objdump -p ./runner |grep libopenal.so.1
NEEDED libopenal.so.1
There is libopenal.so.1
lying in /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu
and I can do:
$ ldd libopenal.so.1
linux-vdso.so.1 => (0x00007fffcdbbb000)
...
I won't run this executable (./runner) as root (just in case this problem could be related to insufficient rights, what I'm not assuming).
So, what could I try else?
This is a rather simple problem, but it annoys me since some time. I'm using Firefox 35.0.01 on Ubuntu 14.10 and sometimes, when I open a new tab mainly on youtube, Firefox starts loading the page, but halts (the tiny progress bar is red and finished to three quaters) or slows down to an unusable amount. Then I have to minimize and maximize the window the make the page usable again or to view it at all. I expect it to be a problem with my hardware setup (I have 2G RAM) or with the current Adobe flash version. Maybe someone knows this behaviour or has similar problems.
I'm using Lightning 3.3.3 in Thunderbird 31.4.0 on Ubuntu 14.10. Because the Mozilla support sites seem little frustrating to me, I'm asking about it here.
But it seems that Lightning isn't working for me because of a major error. I don't know what the error is, but I can post two screenshots showing what it looks like:
and after changing the tab and switching back it looks like:
I already reinstalled it, but without change. It's not possible to work with it or create any new calendar (for example). What went wrong? It's really eating my nerves.
After using Boot Repair (recommended options) from an Ubuntu 14.10 Live System (USB) grub fails with the following error:
error: failure reading sector 0x7c3c00 from "hd0".
Entering rescue mode...
Boot Repair exits with errors and here is the paste-url: http://paste.ubuntu.com/9659889/ I assume to find the relevant error in the last lines:
cp: error reading ‘/mnt/boot-sav/sda7/boot/grub/grub.cfg’: Input/output error
cp: failed to extend ‘/var/log/boot-sav/log/2015-01-02__16h22boot-repair08/sda7/grub.cfg_old’: Input/output error
cp: error reading ‘/mnt/boot-sav/sda7/boot/grub/grub.cfg’: Input/output error
cp: failed to extend ‘/var/log/boot-sav/log/2015-01-02__16h22boot-repair08/sda7/grub.cfg_new’: Input/output error
cat: /mnt/boot-sav/sda7/boot/grub/grub.cfg: Input/output error
An error occurred during the repair.
Afterwards I tried to reinstall Ubuntu 14.10 newly from the live system. There are also different options like - delete and reinstall Ubuntu 14.10, etc. The installation didn't finish fully (after 10 hrs of no progress) so I broke it up @
Jan 3 15:51:00 ubuntu wpa_supplicant[3680]: wlan0: CTRL-EVENT-SCAN-STARTED
/usr/lib/ubiquity/ubiquity/frontend/gtk_components/nmwidgets.py:18: Warning: Source ID 30729 was not found when attempting to remove it
GLib.source_remove(self.timeout_id)
After rebooting the system the error is still the same.
There are different solutions for similar problems, but none of them worked out for me. (For example the solution of What to do when I get an "attempt to read or write outside of disk 'hd0'" error and Boot Repair does not solve the problem? results still in the same error after insmod normal)
System's hardware is a Lenovo Thinkpad T61.
Thanks in advance, I appreciate every kind of help!
UPDATE2: Here is the link to the last "BootInfo Summary" of Boot Repair http://paste.ubuntu.com/9670360/ where everything seems OK (for me at last).
I had a look at the live system and found a tool called "SMART Data and Self-Tests". Its possible to do some tests on the HDs. I've choosen the /dev/sda (the 160G disk where the primary error occurs), but it only says "SELF-TEST FAILED".
Currently I'm thinking about a solution where I save all the data on the disks and format the /dev/sda completely.
UPDATE3: I used the 'hard disk drive diagnostics program' from the BIOS and it finds an error at the very beginning of the test:
Status: Test in progress: 0%
Result: Pass: Controller Diag
Error code 0000: Read verification failed
I'm expecting it to be a hardware error. The sad thing is that there is no warranty left on the system since its about 6 years old.
Another thing I'm thinking about is to "locate" sector 0x7c3c00 from "hd0", but anyway I don't know how to do that.
