I am having a persistent issue launching apps in my newly installed ubuntu 14.04 install. Basically, everythign will be running fine for a while, but then when I attempt to open some apps (like the ghome calculator for instance) they dont launch. If I try to launch them from terminal however I will get errors like this:

Maximum number of clients reached
** (gcalctool:19516): WARNING **: Could not open X display
Maximum number of clients reached Cannot open display: 
Use 'gnome-calculator --help' to display help.

So far this has happened with Nemo, Gnome Calculator, and Libre Office

How can I destroy these ghost clients?

Where can I look to start to troubleshoot this error?

I need to install python so I can install pip/fab which do not need root access to run and install things. I'm setting up a vagrant VM environment which needs to run fab as non root to function and I really don't want to sudo everything or start changing permissions.

I know with OSX I can install python with brew which will install python to /usr/local/bin or something and then I can just edit my bash_profile path to look in that directoy first.

so I followed this guide: https://help.ubuntu.com/11.04/serverguide/C/openldap-server.html

to install and configure ldap but then I discoverd both phpLDAPadmin and Luma and have decided to rebuild my tree from scratch using one of those tools. However Im not sure how to completely remove LDAP now. I can remove it using apt-get, but if I attempt to reinstall it and login using phpLDAPadmin it seems that it's still looking for older authentication and gives me a credential error
