I use multiple monitors so having the window menu move to the top bar now I've finally upgraded to 18.04 is not good for me because it moves the window menu options a long way away from the window.
I'd like my window menu options associated with the window, not the screen.
I've searched the settings, tried gnome tweaks and googled to no avail.
In old Ubuntu versions, I reset this using the settings under appearance|behaviour.
About a week ago, chromium started playing up in my ubuntu 14.04 64 bit desktop system as follows:
About one in five fetches pops up a message saying "Unable to access the network". Sometimes after a few moments the message disappears and the relevant site appears, sometimes the page goes blank, sometimes it appears without CSS information...
When I go to send mail or fill in forms I also get failures (presumably another symptom of the same malady). Retrying works (sometimes after more than one attempt).
Looking at the javascript errors, I sometimes see floods of ERR_NETWORK_CHANGED errors. These errors also usually disappear on a refetch.
It seems reasonable to assume these are all a symptom of one problem and that this problem has something to do with an interaction between chromium and my specific system (otherwise everyone would have the issue).
However, I'm not aware of any system changes other than regular updates that could affect this. Firefox works fine, although it does seem rather slow.
I've googled extensively and this issue does seem to affect other people but none of the proposed solutions worked for me:
I've made sure that I'm not getting dropouts and that I'm not using any firewall software.
I've purged and re-installed chromium, including the deletion of all of the local information under .config.
I set 'chromium-browser --no-proxy-server'
I only have a single wired ethernet connection.
I don't want to switch back to firefox because I've found chromium faster and I prefer its developer tools.
Can anyone help me fix or diagnose the problem?
I'm using Ubuntu 14.04. I've just switched from my aging Logitech headset to a nice comfy GameOne Sennheisser which is not using USB (it plugs in to the pink and green audio sockets).
The GameOne headset is excellent but I have one really annoying bizarre problem.
If I use skype it works perfectly.
If I use Clementine to listen to music, it works perfectly.
If I am using Clementine to listen to music and I get a skype call, when I pause Clementine and pick up the call, the caller cannot hear me and I cannot hear them. After a few seconds I can hear them and after a few more, on the rare occasion when they have not hung up in annoyance, they can hear me.
As I use Skype a lot, this means I can no longer listen to music while working :(
I don't know how to even begin investigating this - I've tried google but not seen anyone else with a similar issue.
I've just run updates which brought Chromium up to "Version 30.0.1599.114 Ubuntu 13.04 (30.0.1599.114-0ubuntu0.13.04.2)"
Chromium is now much slower, taking 5-10 seconds in "Resolving host..." whenever a new page is accessed.
Is there any way to address this. I've looked at similar questions on google but they refer to chrome settings not shared by this version of chromium.
When I try to export a document from org-mode in emacs, c-X, c-E now results in 'Can't find library org' whereas in 10.04 it opened the export dialog allowing me to produce html, pdf etc. from the source org file.
Searching with Google, I found this bug for redhat which looks closely related.
The trouble is I don't know how to get hold of the emacs-el package it talks about in ubuntu in order to try its workaround so I'm currently stuck.

Any idea why this is failing?
I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS with emacs 23.
When I am in org-mode and I hold down control, windows key and hit return, I see: "C-s-return is undefined"
In org-mode it tells me that C-S-RET will insert a new TODO entry which is what I want.
How do I get the super key to work properly? (assuming that is the problem - not sure why its displaying the small S rather than the capital but I am guessing that is something to do with it).
I've used ssh before and password access from my new asus k53by laptop with a fresh 11.10 install to dev server works fine.
I wanted to set up key access for added security and ease of scripting and I did the following:

Everything seemed to work but I still needed to use the password. I also wanted a convenient handle for the server (without the hassle of DNS) so I set up ~/.ssh/config as follows:
