I would like to add some of my directories in /home to the quick access directories in e.g. Word. In windows it would do a simple drag and drop within the opening/saving dialogue. But that does not work here.

I am forced to use MS Office 2010 through Wine
in order to colaborate with my colleagues who all use MS Office. I would like to know if, and how I can install Plugins for Word in Wine. Specifically I need the Mendeley Plugin
(citation software) and the Grammarly Plugin
(grammar correction). A general solution that helps me to figure it out myself would be welcome as well.
I saw this post detailing how to install the Jedox
Plugin for Excel in Wine. So I think, that in theory, this should be also possible for other Plugins, however, information and tutorials are extremly sparse.
Please do not suggest me LibreOffice
as an alternative. I am trying to use the LibreOffice
workaround for several years now and I have constantly problems with the compatability. This is especially the case for using Mendeley citations which are not correctly imported and exported.
After installing ubuntu-desktop on my server I can start a program with gui that runs on my server and forward the Screen to my local pc. I therefore use:
someuser@localhost:~$ ssh -X someuser@somehost
someuser@somehost:~$ gedit
I can also run, detach and attach command line based programs e.g. via tmux or screen. But how do I combine both, in case I want to run a GUI based program for a longer period of time on the server?
In that case I would like to have the graphical output of my program first on my local screen, start some process, than detach the graphical output from my local screen, logout from the server, let the program run, login to the server again and finally attach the graphical output to my local screen again.
Is that possible?
A lot of people face the problem that hibernation does not work on common hardware devices that where designed for other OSes. Imho it is one of the most important issues that should be faced by developers since the lack of hibernation mode can cause serious data loss and hardware damage.
Since there is no software-fix to this problem in sight (as far as I know) I would like to ask you, what my alternatives could be and how to work around the problem of missing hibernation mode.
One of the main problems for me is the "ups-I-forget-my-laptop-was-not-connected-with-the-power-adapter"-moment e.g. when I come back from lunch and the laptop is shutdown because battery reached 0% (and all unsaved data has to be recovered).
I would welcome any pragmatic solutions from "stick a note to your laptop to remind you of your adapter" to existing software or self-made scripts that might alarm me or deliver a workaround (e.g. enter in sleepmode when battery is 15%) or similar. Automatic solutions that don't require my unreliable mental fitness are preferred however.
My workflow relies almost a 100% on the keyboard. Therefore I would like to be able to select multiple non-consecutive files in Nautilus using only the keyboard. I know that:
- I can select multiple consecutive files pressing down shift at the first item and the go down with the arrow keys until the last item.
- I can select multiple non-consecutive files pressing down ctrl and clicking on each desired item with the mouse.
I would like to replace the mouse-clickings with something easy on the keyboard...any suggestions?
It would be an awesome feature to access recently used documents from LibreOffice with a dynamic quicklist in the launcher. There is quite some experience on how to create custom static quicklists.
But is anyone out there who might give some constructive orientation on how to build a dynamic quicklist for recently used docs in lo?
The Ubuntu wiki has a very brief description on how to create quicklists with python or vala. I am not experienced in either of the two and I did not find comprehensive example scripts for dynamic quicklists out there. Therefore I'm looking for some easier way to implement it or somebody who has already done/seen it.
strangely the encodings from some music I got from a friend with Windows 7 OS show up with a wrong encoding in nautlius . I already tried it with
convmv --notest -r -f windows-1255 -t utf-8 *
but it didn't fix it. It rather but another wrong encoding. I tried also with latin1 and latin3. Since I don't know what the original encoding was and I can't find that out, I keep wondering what my options are.
Thx for any advice.
After the last upgrade from libreoffice I get a serious error that I'm not able to solve. I already tried reinstalling libreoffice with the debs but it dind't resolve it. The first couple of days however it worked fine but no I get the following error message any time I want to start an application:
" LibreOffice 5.0 - Fatal Error"
"The application cannot be started. User installation could not be completed"
