I am using Ubuntu 20.04 and have Zoom in version 5.04084598.0517. Zoom shows an update to be available, so I downloaded it from the web page, and opened the deb file with the software installer. What then shows up is the following:

So there is no "install" or "update" button. How do I install this latest version of Zoom?

I am using a 6th gen Thinkpad X1 Carbon with Ubuntu 20.04. No matter which headphones I plug in, the sound is not working for all of them. They are recognized correctly in the audio settings menu als headphones, but they don't play any sound.

The laptop speakers work without any problems.

I have a relatively new Thinkpad X1 Carbon with Ubuntu 20.04. Usually, I use it in a docking station, but will frequently have to take it out to change offices for video conferences etc. This leads to frequent charging processes even though the battery is still missing only a few %. Will this hurt battery live in the long run, and is there anything I can do to optimize the battery life?

I am using Skype v8.57.0.116 in Ubuntu 16.04. Neither via the Skype app, nor via the Skype web interface can I see the screen shared by other persons in meetings. Sharing my screen appears to work fine.

I am trying to connect to my university's VPN network using the provided ovpn configuration file. However, I get the following error message:

Options error: Unrecognized option or missing parameter(s) in kit.ovpn:9: tls-version-min (2.3.2)

The configuration file "kit.ovpn" contains the following line 9:

tls-version-min 1.2

What is the probleme here and how do I fix it?

I have produced a fillable pdf form in LaTeX. Now, I am receiving filled out versions of that form, but a few of the submissions are not displayed in a readable way: Letters are scrambled or only a few letters are display. This happens both with evince and okular, under Ubuntu 16.04.

From the problematic files, it may be possible that they were produced on Macbooks, but I am not certain about that. Under Windows 7, Acrobat Reader displays the problematic forms without any issues

What are potential reasons for this and how can I properly view the forms without switching to Windows every time?

I am quite new to Linux in general, using Ubuntu 16.04. I am planning to install the ecCodes software (https://software.ecmwf.int/wiki/display/ECC/ecCodes+installation), to load some grib files into R using the gribr package. The installation instruction of the gribr package suggest that the ecCodes library should be best installed into a system location ("ecCodes installed in a system location: The the libraries/headers should be found by the linker/compiler without any additional environmental settings.")

In the installation instruction of ecCodes linked above, the corresponding line in the instructions says

cmake -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=/path/to/where/you/install/eccodes ../eccodes-x.y.z-Source 

So, to what path do I need to set /path/to/where/you/install/eccodes so that this is an appropriate system location?

I am using Ubuntu 16.04 MATE, and am wondering whether there is a hotkey to switch between tabs in Caja? In Nautilus, it is possible to switch tabs with STRG + Tab, but in Caja, this doesn't work. Is there another hotkey, or is it possible to define STRG + Tab as hotkey for this action?

I recently installed Ubuntu 16.04 MATE on my Thinkpad X240. In order to disable the automatic start of bluetooth, I did the following:

Attempt 1: sudo pluma /etc/rc.local, then add the line rfkill block bluetooth above exit 0. However, when I restarted bluetooth was still activated. So I again edited the file and removed the line I had added.

I later followed the suggestions here, and repeated attempt 1 with adding also echo disable > /proc/acpi/ibm/bluetooth, but that didn't do the trick as well

Attempt 2: Following the description here (in German), I created a file /lib/systemd/system/disablebluetooth.service with the content:

This also did not help, bluetooth still automatically started on startup.

However, this then, Ubuntu also reports a problem on the system startup (and a dialogue opens in which I can click cancel, or report problem). [EDIT: fixed now]

So, to undo attempt 2, I ran
sudo systemctl disable disablebluetooth.service and deleted the file I had created.

But the warning/problem report at startup still shows up. So now, my questions are

1. How can I find out details about the problem report plopping up at the system startup, and how can I get rid of it? EDIT: Apparently, that warning was only the result of some earlier problems, I was able to remove it by clearing /var/crash/* (or something like that)
2. How do I disable the autostart of bluetooth?

I am using Ubuntu 14.04, and recently have a problem with Thunderbird: Some pdf files attached to emails are not treated as pdf files should be.

The attachment settings option for pdf's is set to automatically open pdf files with the document viewer. This works for some (most) pdf's files in attachments. However, for some files, a dialogue opens and asks what to do for the attachment, and suggests to open it with the video player. If I instead save the attachment to some folder, it is correctly recognized as a pdf and opened with the correct automatic program.

Where does this come from, and how can I fix it?

Edit: I checked the email source which states this:

apparently, the content type is wrongly recognized

I am trying to run Spotify on Ubuntu 12.04. It used to work some time ago, when I tried to start it today, I got the following error:

spotify: error while loading shared libraries: libudev.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

how to fix it?

I tried

sudo apt-get install libudev1

which however gives an error saying that it does not exist (any more)
