I just upgraded two dual boot (Windows/Ubuntu) laptops from Ubuntu 20.04 to Ubuntu 22.04. So far everything works OK except for the following situation.

In the first dual boot laptop I cannot insert an image into a LibreOffice (version 7.3.2.2) Writer document nor see images inserted into a Writer document which were created before this upgrade. In this laptop both OSs (Windows and Ubuntu) are installed on the same HDD.

In the second laptop Windows and Ubuntu are installed on separate HDDs. Inserting an image into a LibreOffice Writer document works OK, and images in LibreOffice Writer documents which were created before this upgrade can be seen normally.

On 22.7.2021 there was kernel update of Ubuntu 20.04 LTS from 5.8.0-59-generic to 5.8.0-63-generic. Was this vulnerability CVE-2021-33909 patched by this update?

What Terminal command I should make in Ubuntu in order to find out which TPM version I have, i.e TPM version 1.2 or 2.0 ?

I'm running Ubuntu 20.04 LTS. Now all OK except this: what does it mean in practice, when Livepatch informs that: ''No updates currently applied.''? Does it mean that updates have been downloaded from Canonical to my PC, but they are not installed ? Or does it mean something else ? What should I do in practice with these kind of Livepatch announcements ? In case these announcements do not mean anything could you please stop sending them ?

This is a dual boot laptop HP 8570p with Ubuntu 18.04 and Win 10. I've installed exfat-fuse and exfat-utils (both are of version 1.2.8-1 and they are now located in directory: /dev/sda5/usr/share/doc in form of changelog.Debian.gz), Ubuntu is in this /dev/sda5 device.

I tried to mount exfat using terminal two commands: 1.) at first 'mount exfat usr/share/doc', but the reply was: 'mount: only root can do that'; 2.) and secondly 'sudo mount -t exfat /dev/sda5/usr/share/doc /media/exfat, but the reply was: 'FUSE exfat 1.2.8 ERROR: failed to open '/dev/sda5/usr/share/doc': Not a directory.'

How can I proceed with mounting correctly ?

After this I tried to format USB stick to exFat with GParted, but my GParted (vers 0.30.3) does not support exFat. Can I do something to make my GParted to support also exFat ?

https://kernelnewbies.org/ informed 30.1.2020 about Linux_5.5 realease on January 26, 2020. How long does it take approximately to include a new kernel into update packages of different Linux distributions ?

After last update of Ubuntu 18.04 LTS to newest kernel 4.15.0-55-generic 23.7.2019 I started to receive daily automatic notifications after each booting that I should install ttf-mscorefonts-installer.

But when I made command 'sudo apt-get install ttf-mscorefonts-installer' in the Terminal, I get reply that it is already installed in newest version (3.6ubuntu2).

In which program or service this ttf-mscorefonts-installer is needed ? What can I do to stop / prevent these automatic announcements ?

In my Ubuntu 18.04 LTS desktop I have now, after today's software updates last kernels 4.15.0-50-generic and 4.15.0-51-generic and Canonical Livepatch installed and enabled today.

Problem: I have red exclamation mark on Livepatch icon on right upper corner of the screen and I get following info from Livepatch Settings: 1.) ’’Livepatch is on’’ and 2.) ’’Canonical Livepatch has experienced an internal error. Please refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/Livepatch#Commonissues for further information.’’ Does this mean that Livepatch is working OK or not in this desktop ? Should I do something ?

///Background: Until today I had similar problem (and information as above) in my other desktop with Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. But after today's software update (among others installed latest kernel 4.15.0-51-generic and removed old kernel -48) the red exclamation mark on icon changed automatically to green V-mark and Livepatch Settings informs: 1.) ’’Livepatch is on’’ and 2.) ’’Last check for updates 13.6.2019 16:28 (48 minutes ago)''. 1.) At first I made the following with the desktop in question: I re-installed Livepatch, launched it and acquired machine token. After this the Livepatch icon appeared with the green V-mark.

2.) After this I made as you asked and below are the results from terminal.

3.) After this I re-booted the desktop and the results were same as earlier yesterday, i.e.. the re-boot with mouse only failed (only start from power-on switch succeeded), Livepatch icon appeared with RED exclamation mark and Livepatch Setting inform about ''internal error'' as earlier. Yesterday after these same results I uninstalled Livepatch (as you see from my earlier comment). Now I did the same thing.

I updated my desktop Pavillion a623.sc from Ubuntu 16.04 LTS to 18.04 LTS. After downloading I could not re-boot nor boot the desktop. The booting process starts, Ubuntu logo comes up, but the password page does not follow, instead only empy lila page stays on the screen.

Now I can make booting only manually via ''Ubuntu with Linux 4.15.0-33-generic (recovery mode)'. There I updated also GNU GRUB version 2.02, but it did not help with the booting problem.

((Earlier I made similar online update to my other pc, HP 6930p laptop, and all works OK without any booting problems.))

Today I have Ubuntu 14.04 LTS OS and kernel 3.13.0-83 in my 64 bit laptop. With this kernel version I have still same problem of ''Kernel panic ...'' announcements and required reboot actions as with earlier kernel 3.13.xx versions.

I am waiting for online update to Ubuntu 16.04 LTS to this same laptop.

Does this online update to Ubuntu 16.04 make AUTOMATICALLY also change of new kernel to 4.4.6 ? Or should I change kernel somehow separately ? How stable this kernel 4.4.6 is ? Brgds Kauko Peltonen

I can download photos with bluetooth from my Ubuntu 15.04 computer to my Nokia 302 mobile phone. But I cannot upload photos from this same mobile to this same computer with bluetooth.

Neither I could not get nokuntu programm (nokinux-0.0.8.6.tar.gz) working in my 15.04 computer (to be used instead of Nokia Suite, which is made to work in Microsoft computers).

What could I do ?

Background:

In Ubuntu Software Center there is ''fqrx-amdcccle'', version 2-15.200-Oubuntu4.

I installed this to my Ubuntu 15.04. After installation my laptop did not acknowledge any more my password. Result: I had to re-install OS.

( My laptop is HP EliteBook 8530p with Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU T9550 @ 2.66GHz × 2, 64bit, RAM 4G and with graphics Gallium 0.4 on AMD RV635. Earlier I installed this AMD CCC and it worked fine on this same laptop, this laptop was then with OS Windows Vista Prof )

Questions:

1. Doeas fqrx-amdcccle work OK in 15.04 ?

2. I saw in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evqpassbyqA short film describing in detail how to install fqlrx-amdcccle to Ubuntu 14.04. Is this same instruction / procedure valid still also for Ubuntu 15.04 or how it is changed ? If changed, how ?

3. Should I install also ''fqlrx-amdcccle-updates'' or something else to make it working OK ?

4. Should I do some other addtional settings after installation ?

How can I install Skype on Ubuntu 14.04 with synaptic? I don't want to download from the site

Thank you for many replies and great interest to this topic, but I would like to repeat my original question: Can I use without problems Synaptic for this installation.

Reason: I would like NOT to use terminal commands if possible with Skype installation.

Background: I have made last week installation with terminal commands by using the instructions / command shown above in answer ''Step 1, Step2, Step 3 ..'', but I made some mysterious misstake(s) and I greated somehow a ''SystemEror level problem'' (= in /etc/.. line 54 was lost for some reason ... -> SystemError warning)

Result: I did not find any way / method / command to sort it out, than to REINSTALL the whole Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Finish remix) once again -> then upgrade it to Ubuntu 14.10.. and, as you understand, it is not so nice excersice to repeat ....)

Conclusion: So, Synaptic may be a safe solution, if Skype 4.3. works OK in Ubuntu 14.10. with this skype 4.3.0.37-OubuntuO12.04.1 packet version. This packet version at present Synaptic offers me for installation.

My question is:

1. Installation of Skype 4.3.0.37... with Synaptic to Ubuntu 14.10 - does Skype work OK with this installation ?

2. In my Synaptic screenshot I see now following packets of Skype programs.

And my question is:

2. only the first one (skype 4.3.0.37 ..) and other packets LATER, when Skype is already working OK? When I look these 4 small packets, Skynaptic indicates, that

   This plugin communicates with the Skype application in the background to perform its work, so it's necessary to have Skype installed and running

   But, can Skype work even without these without these 4 small packets, if they are not installed simultaneously with skype packet installation?
