I am trying to install wine on my Ubuntu 19.10. Actually, I am coming from Ubuntu 19.04, but I upgraded to 19.10 in November.

Long story short, I know of this repository which should contain everything I need to make a proper installation: deb https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/ubuntu/ eoan main

The problem is that when I try to do the installation apt install winehq-stable, apt throws an error and stops:

winehq-stable : Depends: wine-stable (= 5.0.0~eoan)

I have double checked if there are some old wine repositories, but there are not. I have checked for previously installed wine packages (using synaptic, searching for "wine"), and found nothing.

I have followed a few guides, but I still can't do the installation.

I am stuck in a dependency hell, but how do I find the cause?

EDIT: Wine installation on Ubuntu 19.10 is different from any previous release, because, they say, libfaudio0 was not available on Ubuntu's repositories prior to 19.10. So old questions or instructions suggesting to use external repositories are outdated.

This is what I did:

• By following a few (outdated, but I didn't know that) guides, I have tried to install wine using old repositories. It didn't work.
  • When I have found out that Ubuntu 19.10 had different instructions I have cleaned up my sources.list, so now I don't have those old/wrong repositories anymore.
  • I have tried to manually remove every package that I have found on my system that could be related with wine.
  • At this point, I thought that my system was cleaned of all of the previous attempts. I was wrong.

• So I have tried a new installation with the official instructions:

  sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386
  wget -nc https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/winehq.key
  sudo apt-key add winehq.key
  sudo apt-add-repository 'deb https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/ubuntu/ eoan main'

This only happens on my old laptop, a HP Pavilion DV7 6180SL. I seldom use it, but when I need to use it I'd still like to avoid the problem :)

Since a few ubuntu releases there is something strange that happens from time to time, which is some graphic glitches (usually white) on some icons, or part of applications. It's pretty annoying and sometimes I have to reboot... Today I have updated to ubuntu 19.10 and still there is the same problem.

Ram 4 GB (upgraded to 8)
AMD Radeon HD 6770M

This time only I did an upgrade from ubuntu 19.04 to 19.10. Ubuntu 19.04 was a fresh install, already having the same problem.

Edit 2 I have also noticed that when this happens on a web page, the glitch scrolls together with the web page O_o

I have looked at previous similar questions, but still I can't make it work.

I have tried with the previous kernel (which I didn't upgrade recently btw).

In my Intel NUC8 bios the bluetooth is enabled.

But if I try to connect to my bluetooth speaker I only see this:

In the latest versions of ubuntu, right clicking on a file doesn't give you the possibility to create password protected archives (see this question). I still need to do that kind of things though so I was trying to create a nautilus script that does the same job.

It's still very raw (I'm not very good with bash scripting) but it sort of works. The only problem is: it breaks if there is a space in a file name.

How can I wrap the $line variable (line 4) to wrap the filename inside quotes?

edit: I could use file-roller instead of the shell zip command (it's even simpler indeed):

But still, I have to wrap the file names into quotes in order to avoid problems

I am running ubuntu 18.04 on a old(ish) laptop, it's a hp dv7 6180sl with upgraded ram (16gb) and SSD. It's old but still fast enough for my job.

Since a few ubuntu versions (I always do a complete reinstall at every release, so I'm not coming from an older version) it looks like the cpu is never really idle, thus tha fans are always working. Today I have decided to find out what is using my cpu.

I've read lots of answers here and on google, but nothing really solved my problem. Top says this:

Taking the PID of gnome-shell, I've tried to do a strace to see what happens under the hood, and I saw that there is a recvmsg syscall that gives a big amount of errors, taking almost 30% of the time (this is after almost a minute):

Is that something I should worry about?

I have upgraded to Ubuntu 16.04 recently, and everythings works perfectly but I need php5, which is not in the official repositories. So I have tried with phpbrew: it didn't work (it was unable to switch to any php version).

Then I have found this question: How can I downgrade from PHP 7 to PHP 5.6 on Ubuntu 16.04?

The accepted answer looked perfect to me, so I have disabled phpbrew and installed all the packages. Everything seemed correct, but still php7 works correctly, and when I switch to php5 apache fails to load.

In /var/log/apache2/error.log I see this:

How can I make apache work with php5?
