I've a issue with my external monitor losing the signal in Ubuntu 20.04. It doesn't happen using Windows 10.
I found a workaround here thanks to @user10489 So, I configured Ubuntu to execute xset dpms force off; xset dpms force on when pressing CTRL + ALT + R.
But I'd like to execute it automatically after returning from power saving black screen, just by moving the mouse or pressing any key.
Is there any way to handle this event, and add this behaviour using Ubuntu 20.04?
I bought a LG 24MP59G-P 24" monitor and connected to my laptop via HDMI.
It works fine. And I'm using a "join displays" configuration, having the new monitor as the primary display.
But after power saving "blank screen", it usually stops working and says: "out of range"
Then I have to switch to text mode terminal (CTRL+ALT+F4) and then go back.
Or try to solve it by locking the session, and loging in again.
But it takes several tries to get it working back.
And sometimes I've to unplug the HDMI cable, and connect it again.
I wouldn't like to have to be plugging and unplugging the HDMI cable all the time
Is there any configuration that I could use to avoid these "out of range" failures?
Or, as a workaround, could I solve it using command line?
So I could create a script and a key combination to easily restore it

I tested it using Windows 10 in the same laptop and the problem doesn't reproduce after 20 power savings. So it seems to be an Ubuntu 20.04 bug, a Nvidia driver bug or a misconfiguration
I'm using Ubuntu 16.04. It starts bootstrap, but it hangs saying nothing (blink cursor)
I tried last boot with nouveau.modeset=0. But it still hangs, it shows a black screen with like an terminal cursor, but no keyboard response.
The bootstrap is plenty of failures, but the most relevant was: "signature not signed with a trusted key"

To get the errors instead of the black screen, boot in recovery mode, then root console, and then you've to activate the journalctl history (I googled it). Boot normal again to capture the errors, and then root console again and write:
journalctl -b-1
I'd like control my computer case leds from Ubuntu 16, in order to see a semaphore indicating the machine and processes status.
My mobo is a Gigabyte Aorus X399 Gaming 7 and my case is a Phanteks Enthoo Luxe.
How could I change the case leds color? Changing mobo leds color, or turning it on/off would be also great.
Is there any linux application, python script, bash script ... to do it?
I have some movies, in avi and mp4 format, with two sound channels.
It would be great, if I could play both channels on different sound cards to be listened with earphones (one for me and the other one for my girlfriend).
I've seen external USB sound cards.
But I have never seen any movie players that allow this feature.
Is it possible on Ubuntu?

I'm trying to install cuda in order to use GPU optimization in Theano.
I did several cuda 7 installations (on Ubuntu server x86_64 12.04, Ubuntu server x86_64 14.04, installing Nvidia drivers manually...).
The current installation is: - Ubuntu 14.04 (updated) - cuda 6.5 (via .run)
After each installation I try the first GPU example in this tutorial but I keep getting the same response:

I compiled the nvidia cuda examples. I can execute the matrixMul example. But executing matrixMulCUBLAS gives me a similar error related to libcublas.so shared object
Also, when I execute NVIDIA X Server Settings I receive:
You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver. Please edit your X configuration file (just run nvidia-xconfig as root), and restart X
I execute:
root> nvidia-xconfig
And get the following message in return:
WARNING: Unable to locate/open X configuration file.
New X configuration file written to '/etc/X11/xorg.conf'
But in spite of nvidia-xconfig, the problem in NVIDIA X Server Settings still remains.
In one of the intents, I solved this problem with NVIDIA X Server Settings. But it doesn't solved the problem with libcublas.
I have set related variables via /etc/environment

I'm a newbie in GPUs and its like a big mess!
My Ubuntu isn't able to mount a partition.
It suddenly became unreadable because of a corrupt Master File Table. chkdsk /f is unable to correct it, saying:
Windows will now check the disk.
Corrupt master file table.
Windows will attempt to recover master file table from disk.
Windows cannot recover master file table. CHKDSK aborted
I tried with ntfsfix without success:
ntfsfix /dev/sda5

I tried the following instructions, but ntfsclone said that there were an I/O error

I did a successful clone with dd, so I'm not very sure if it is caused by an I/O error.
dd if=/dev/sda5 of=/media/backup/partition.dd bs=32M
After copying it, I tried again to use ntfsclone from the copied file. I had the same response, so I think that the disk is Ok (no I/O error), but the master file table is corrupted.
What should I do at this point?
