OS: Lubuntu.

Can someone please, help, which is the command from the terminal(cmd) to search on all the external HDD, on all its folders and sub-folders. I would like to search for all the photos having this inside of their names: "202010"

Are there two/three different commands if some of the photos could have in there name some characters in front of "202010" and other photos could have some characters after "202010", or maybe both ways, characters in front and after "202010" ?

Is there any update command, from the terminal, for updating the last photos copied on the external HDD, from another machine, then the machine where I actually connect the external HDD, and search for photos? Or the photos will be indexed anyway by the new machine?

Just for security reasons. Because I will never use the printer for this system, how to completely block the cupsd service forever, so it will not let port 631 port beeing exploitable? Are these the right command?

Because I am not so advanced, could these commands make more damages for the OS then helping it being more secure?

What about avahi-daemon and qlipper, are these services vital for the OS, or could them be blocked completely, forever?

Every time Linux boots I have to manually use the following two commands in order to have a working internet connection.

I am looking for a method so the internet connection will start automatically when Lubuntu boots up.

It also seems that the second command dhclient eth0 after using the MANDATORY ONE ethtool -s eth0 autoneg off speed 100 duplex full (still all the commands take effects only manually) could be replaced with ifup eth0 in order for the internet to work.

Maybe an important part of the next log is Link detected: no After boot if immediately the first command is ethtool eth0 the output is:

I would like to add that the same Linux machine in discussion always receives internet connection instantly/directly, even after reboot, shutdown, with no others supplementary manual commands, or any other actions, if I only change the cable from "the problematic in discussion internet connection" to the "non-problematic" completely different DSL router connection(another ISP, BUT STILL THE SAME ETHERNET CABLE)

The problematic connection dependent on the manual commands "in discussion" which has the internet only after the manually commands, is from another ISP and is a coaxial/tv cable modem.

Could it be problems with onboard NIC?

This exactly same machine with this exactly system with "in discussion", THE SAME ETHERNET CABLE, takes/keeps internet directly/immediately even after reboot/shutdown or whatever I would do, without any manual commands, ONLY MOVING THE ETHERNET CABLE from this "in discussion" problematic router to another router connected to completely another internet connection on another ISP.

The same port on the router the same cable, even from in discussion PROBLEMATIC ROUTER also Windows 7 and Windows 10 connect to the internet instantly/directly without any clicks supplementary clicks, only changing the cable from the Linux machine to the Windows machine.

If you have please any ideas how this could happen, I have just remembered that this in discussion same machine + same OS(Linux no changed configurations) + same Ethernet cable always "received and kept" the internet automatically (no extra manual commands) from all the 3 different models of routers.

All 3 connections and routers were from the same ISP, other than this forth problematic connection and router.

It is Lubuntu mini.iso with no desktop environment, only fvwm, so please, I can use only the terminal. I don't have any network manager installed.

There are two different routers: On the sim router the wired internet connection works for the Lubuntu device.

Immediately as I change the Ethernet cable from the above SIM router, to the other provider(router) which has only tv cable/coax connection through only a cable model(Gateway), there is no more internet connection.

With the same network cable/router port(from the second tv cable/coax/Gateway ISP) the internet works on Windows 7 and 10.

From what I could see for the two different routers/connections the IPs are dynamically.

Tell me please what logs do you need from the working and no-working connections, in order to see the differences...

I am not interested in the WiFi connection.

There are two different routers:

One is connected to the internet through a sim card - one ISP (Linux has internet) The second ISP is connected to the internet through a coaxial/tv cable/Gateway/Modem cable. (no internet on Linux for this one)

No configurations have been changed to any of the two routers or any machines Linux/Windows 7/Windows 10.

Only change the same cable for all the 3 difference devices from a router to another. Windows 10 and Windows 7 have internet connection on both routers.

Linux has internet only on the first SIM router.

For the non working internet connection to the link led from the router where is the Linux Ethernet cabled plugged, only the orange led one blinks, but for the other internet working devices connected via Ethernet cable to the same router, blinks also the green led on the router.

I run dhcpcd eth0 with the working internet cabled in, and after dhcpcd loaded everything, I plugged the cable in the non-working internet router, and the internet worked, maybe because dhcpcd was running.

I restarted the device to see if it will still work but when Linux loaded after restart it appeared in the console:

The last part "A start job is running..." where I have to wait 5 min and 7s it seams that appears every time that the internet doesn't work. It has never appeared when the internet worked, but it always appears when internet doesn't work...

After starting Linux with the non-working internet in, I also tried dhcpcd eth0 but...

And again...

I have just(nothing less or more) only moved the cable from the non-internet connection router to the internet working connection router dhcpcd eth0

Loaded all the things successfully(with the internet connection plugged) It is right that would not be a good idea to paste in here the output of "dhcpcd eht0" ?

Unplug the working internet connection and plug in to the non-internet connection, but surprise, now I am posting from the non-working internet connection which it seams that now is working because of the dhcpcd eth0

But, if I will restart like last time, I think it will happen again like before

As soon as "waiting for carrier" without touching anything else, I unplugged only the head on the network cable from the Linux machine, insert it in the Windows 7 machine, disable the wireless at all from the Windows machine, enable LAN, and internet is working... This could mean that the router/cable/port of the router work properly?

I will try also to reset the router...

Could it be any other configurations of Linux, considering that the internet works after I use dhcpcd eth0 with the internet-working router plugged in, and after that, plugging in the non-internet router and still has internet connection... (until restart)

The only way the internet was working IN THE NON-INTERNET WORKING ROUTER (the same network cable/the same router port, everything the same like when it doesn't work) was dhcpcd eht0 WHEN THE NETWORK CABLE WAS PLUGGED IN THE WORKING INTERNET ROUTER and after that only moving the cable from the working-internet-router to the non-working-internet router.

But if I will restart the machine, no internet until I will not repeat the before steps.

I've also reset for a few times the router, restarted it (unplug from the electricity for at least 30 second) tried to reconnect the Linux machine to the non-internet-router with another cable router and also to another port router, but still not working, until I will not do the step from the beginning.

The same Ethernet cable and router port from the non-internet router provide internet instantly when is plugged into another Windows 7 and Windows 10 machines, without to change anything in Windows or in the fresh/new/from scratch reset router.

The var/log/kern.log it was to big to paste anywhere, and I don't know why I could not upload the file to any file hosting site, or on Google drive, or elsewhere. The file has only 2.1M. I've also tried to copy it/rename it, but it is not possible to upload it anywhere. even here on the forum as an File Attachment. Maybe because of the file content.

Considering the before post, when I was connected on the internet through the regularly/usually non-working-internet router, but this time, before restart the internet was working on it(the reason for the working internet connection you can see at the beginning of the before post)

I only restarted the machine, without to touch anything else, router, cable or anything else.

Immediately after restart:

Anyone please has a fvwm configuration working with Ubuntu 16.04 and where stalonetray working properly?

The configuration I use, FvwmButtons (panel, taskabar) doesn't swallow stalonetray.

The stalonetray it appear as a different mobile very little window, which is not possible to make it bigger is not part of the FvwmButtons (panel, taskabar) as I would like, and it can not be used at all.

Is it right that from what I can understand from WindowsDualBoot Ubuntu needs only GRUB2 to can boot together with Microsoft Windows, without any login manager.

Ubuntu 16.04 "Xenial Xerus" 54MB - minimal command line installation use and has GRUB2, correct?

I would like to specify that Ubuntu 16.04 "Xenial Xerus" 54MB, Windows will be installed afterwards.

On the device is installed through MinimalCD only linux-generic kernel, and some restricted modules, following the steps from Installation/LowMemorySystems with Fluxbox window manager the only installed environment.

The right click and the mouse for the touch screen are working normally. Tell me please is there any way to enable right click on the touch screen?

I am Linux beginner user.

Tell me please can I find anywhere online the "core version" (if I can say like that) of Gedit? The only two features I would still in it are "Highlight Misspell words" and "Spelling Suggestions", available only for English language.

If not Gedit, is there any other application which could meet my requests? Like for example LibreOffice, OpenOffice etc?

I use an old computer and it counts to use a lightweight application Until now I used Leafpad, but I changed to Gedit for Highlight Misspell words. I use them to write only plain texts.

It would be great if it exists a simpler, version of Gedit, fast like Leafpad or even more faster, and with the above mentioned two options.

I am a beginner Linux user. From my knowledge the system uses OpenJDK and IcedTea only when I connect to a SAP IDES server through SAP GUI JAVA adding a string in it to connect to that server. I use SAP for my studies. What is SAP IDES

I have the next 3 questions please, I will number them to be easier for you to answer:

1. How can I check if only the SAP GUI JAVA from all Lubuntu and other installed applications need and use the OpenJDK and IcedTea.

2. If only SAP GUI JAVA from my entire system needs OpenJDK and IcedTea, are there any security settings using these two commands itweb-settings and IcedTea-Web or using other commands to set the OpenJDK or IcedTea to accept connections to them only from SAP GUI JAVA, and only from the IDES server please?

3. Which other security settings do you recommend to set to OpenJDK and IcedTea, like filtering the IDES and SAP connection?

I watch usually normal videos, with not so high resolution...

Referring to the hardware resources used tell me please do you recommend me a video player which comes with the most common codecs included, or is it possible to use a fast way in Linux to download/install the video and audio codec that I need for the video which I am trying to watch?

If this is possible how can I find in Linux the video codec which I need to see the video?

I don't think that the old partition is Encrypted, when I installed Lubuntu I remember that I chose not to encrypt it... if this could be important for you. But better if you know exactly how to check it to be sure.

brightness of the screen

So, I could use the function keys to adjust the screen brightness, or at least the Xubuntu settings, and remain like the last adjustment even after a restart.

Every time after I restart I have to enter this in the terminal to set the brightness:

xrandr -q | grep " connected"
xrandr --output LVDS --brightness 0.5

Could someone tell me if there is there any way to set up the brightness and remain like that even after a restart?
