Being unable to ssh into a machine I connected it to a monitor and found the following:
The machine is running Ubuntu Server 18.04 LTS and is a first generation 8 core Ryzen 1700. I've restarted the machine since and it works fine but am not sure what caused this in the first place and want to avoid it happening again.

How to enable the lxd containers to be reached by hostname from the lxd host?
Sound stopped working on a display port connected monitor after installing nVidia drivers for a gtx 660.
I tried restarting pulseaudio and switching between each of output devices however no sound was coming through the display port.
Searching through the forums I found some diagnostic scripts however none of them resulted in sound coming out of the speakers.

How to get sound working on my computer again?
In order to get a more recent feature I upgraded lxd to the feature branch using:
sudo apt install lxd lxd-client
I have however experienced instability since and would like to switch back to the LTS branch.
How to switch back to the LTS branch (without purging) as there are containers which already exist?
I would like to connect 6 monitors to my computer to form one large desktop.
I read that solutions by nVidia require Xinerama however they appear to be quite fiddly and may require editing xorg.conf.
AMD on the other hand have support 6 displays using one card with Eyefinity however there was a reported issue with AMD drivers not working on Ubuntu 16.04.
What is the simplest (no manual xorg.conf edits), reliable (non buggy) way to set up Ubuntu 16.04 with 6 monitors?
I would like to add another monitor and power it using Intel's integrated gpu as the nVidia card cannot power any more monitors.
I've confirmed that the cpu supports Intel's Flexible Display Interface (FDI) and that my bios is set up correctly (the later using the motherboard manufacturer's customer support and internet research).
I can even get all monitors to work using an Ubuntu live cd and the nouveau drivers. The issue with using nouveau is that it is highly unstable and tends to freeze my pc. Using nVidia drivers results in a stable setup.
When using nVidia's driver, the monitor connected to Intel's gpu lights up during boot up, but turns off when the login manager is displayed.
How to get both the nVidia and Intel gpus to work together with multiple monitors?

Switching the order of the network interfaces inside the configuration file results in the other interface (which was previously unassigned) showing and IPv4 address.
What is needed to be assigned an IPv4 on the second interface?
I restarted a frozen Ubuntu 16.04.1 session using Alt + PrtSc + REISUB and now the graphical login manager does not show and I cannot log in. The following message briefly displayed and then disappears in an ongoing cycle.

I managed to log in using Ctrl + Alt + F1, however after a few seconds, the screen flashes black, and continues displaying the message above in the same manner. I can press Ctrl + Alt + F1 and the login is still active.
I've tried restarting it a few times using the power button with no success.
How can this be resolved? I still have access to recovery mode.
When comparing the disk usage for a mounted harddrive the usage is completely different when compared between the host and the container. I am running Ubuntu 14.04 on the host and in the lxc container.
The hard drive is mounted on the host as confirmed by /etc/mtab which has the following entry: /dev/nvme0n1 /mnt/SSD ext4 rw 0 0. The drive however is not mounted using /etc/fstab.
The drive is mounted inside the lxc container using fstab settings in: /var/lib/lxc/container_name/fstab.
From the host:

After unmounting the drive using sudo umount /dev/nvme0n1, I now see 16GB disk usage in the host:

I mounted another drive /dev/sdb using /etc/fstab and gave the container access to it using the same method: /var/lib/lxc/container_name/fstab. The second drive's usage is also consistent and the contents are available in both the container and the host.
The differences between the two drives are that /dev/nvme0n1 is a nvme drive which was mounted manually, whereas /dev/sdb is a magnetic drive and was mounted using /etc/fstab.
What could be causing the difference in the behaviour and how to make /dev/nvme0n1 available in the container?
Do LXC containers have access to PCI components such as PCIe SSDs and GPUs?
Would the drivers need to be installed on the host, guest or both?
Do they support exclusive usage by using PCI passthrough like in a KVM?
I am trying to install gTile in Ubuntu Gnome 14.04 (https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/28/gtile/).
Instead of an on/off slider I have the following message at the top of the page:

I read the "About" section and it specifies that the "GNOME Shell Integration" plugin must be installed in Firefox. I am using Firefox 35 and cannot find this plugin?

How to edit the size of the /boot partition when installing Ubuntu? Using the guided partitioning option "use the entire disk and set up encrypted LVM" results is a /boot partition which is only 236MB.
