I'm having a webkit issue on Ubuntu 22.04.3 LTS.

I get the following errors when running a Photino app (dotnet dev framework which implements webkit).

KMS: DRM_IOCTL_MODE_CREATE_DUMB failed: Permission denied
Failed to create GBM buffer of size 600x400: Permission denied
KMS: DRM_IOCTL_MODE_CREATE_DUMB failed: Permission denied
Failed to create GBM buffer of size 600x400: Permission denied
KMS: DRM_IOCTL_MODE_CREATE_DUMB failed: Permission denied
Failed to create GBM buffer of size 600x400: Permission denied
Failed to create EGL images for DMABufs with file descriptors -1, -1 and -1

I searched and found Ubuntu official docs about WebKit.

From there I tried the test and I see the following results (anything less than 100 indicates a problem).

The docs mention that you should have a 100, but it doesn't mention:

1. What a 97 means
2. Any extra docs to check and see what a less-than 100 means
3. any indication of anything else

Does anyone know what that means or how to get more information?

How can I determine which version of WebKit I'm running?

I'm attempting to run MS Teams on Ubuntu 22.04 as I have for many months now and suddenly I get an error that states "Operation failed with unexpected error."

I also notice that when search for information about Teams that I find the latest MS documentation doesn't mention how to install on Linux:

I also found a link that states: Microsoft Teams progressive web app now available on Linux

However, clicking the "Learn MOre" link on that page is a circular reference and does not take you to any instructions to install on Linux or download the .deb as it allowed in the past.

Uninstalled / Installed

I uninstalled the app and tried installing again I saw the following:

Getting the Original Deb pkg

Originally I downloaded the PWA deb pkg from an official microsoft site (the one that mentions that the desktop app is gone).

I also searched around to see if Microsoft makes the PWA installation package available anywhere at this time.

It seems they removed it a while back but luckily I still have it in my downloads directory.

I also found a Microsoft link that shows that you can get the .deb for installation at: https://mirror.slackware.hr/sources/teams/teams_1.5.00.23861_amd64.deb

It seems as if they are hiding the PWA too and probably not actually supporting it either. Probably will be just a browser page in the futre.

Has Microsoft removed support for Teams on Linux?

I am attempting to install FCEUX from a .deb package that worked on Ubuntu 20.04 but does not install on 22.04.1 LTS.

I see the following errors:

Depends: libx264-155 but it is not installable
Depends: libx265-179 but it is not installable
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

Does this mean that 22.04 cannot use this package since it has these dependencies? Is there a way to install those older dependencies on 22.04?

The source is available but there aren't great instructions on building.

These bootloader updates have been showing up as unselected for 5-7 days.

I tried selecting them so they would install a couple of days ago but the updates program crashed.

Now I'm not sure if I have to select them to get them to install or if they will eventually install on their own.

Do I have to select them? Or will they eventually install on their own?

Days Later

Many days later, there is still no clear answer to this, but when I check updates I see the following listed:

Additionally, I have no way to know if those listed are related to the original GRUB updates shown in the first snapshot. It's quite confusing.

However, when I check the User Interface (Software Updates) I don't see any available? (The unselected ones shown above no longer show up.)

My original question was: Do I have to explicitly choose these updates myself or do they install automatically at some point?
I'm still not sure.

4 Days Later

Today a kernel update showed up and the original GRUB updates showed up in the Software Updates UI list again.

However, they are still unselected.
Even after installing all the other updates they still show up.

Some Updates Cannot Be Selected

Finally, there are some updates that you cannot even select. The OpenOffice updates shown in the next image cannot be selected. (If you click the checkboxes nothing happens.) I'm guessing that these will be auto-updated later.

When I start Visual Studio Code in Ubuntu 21.04 I do not see the indicator on the task bar that it is actually running. Notice that you can see that Thunderbird, FireFox & terminal have open windows in the following image:

OpenOffice is not running (so it doesn't show the red dot) but Visual Studio Code (v 1.61.2 x64) is running but still doesn't show the red dot on the task bar.

Do you know why this might be?

Also, running Gnome version 3.38.5

I also noticed that clicking the icon on the taskbar starts a new instance of Visual Studio Code every time (instead of switching to the running copy).
That's really annoying. Must be a setting I've changed somewhere or something. Not sure.

I am running the current version of FireFox 92.0 (64-bit).

If I start FireFox then the sound on my line out sound does not work:

And, when it does work, there is a lot of fuzz sound : whitenoise as the music plays.

However, when I run Brave this never happens. Have been running Brave for months & I hadn't had any problems. I switched to FireFox again a couple of days ago and the sound problem started happening again.

What I've Tried

I was having the problem where no sound was coming out (with Firefox running) so I quit FireFox and started Brave and it solved everything --- sound started again and it was clear with no whitenoise.

It's probably some driver conflict or something, but seems odd that it occurs when I run FireFox and nothing else causes this problem.

I just installed a few things and some updates.
i went to restart my computer Ubuntu 20.04 but I don't have the [Restart] option. Has this been removed? Or has something else occurred?

I just went out to use ms-sql server and I discovered that it was completely uninstalled from my Ubuntu 20.04 desktop.

Why would the software be uninstalled without my knowledge?

It also uninstalled the command-line tools (sqlcmd etc.) and I had to reinstall those as well.

The following item in Power...Settings... states:

Wi-Fi can be turned off to save power

You can see that the option is currently turned on. That should mean that the system is allowed to turn off the Wi-Fi to save power.

However, when I turn off that option, my Wi-Fi is disabled (turned off).

I'm attempting to tell the system that it is not allowed to turn off Wi-Fi to save power.

However, when I turn off the option it actually turns off the Wi-Fi. It's seems that this item is not described properly in the Power....Settings...

Note: This option was the same under Ubuntu 18.04 also.

I've been struggling with this problem for a while now. Maybe since my upgrade from 18.04 to 20.04.

It was very difficult to capture, but here is a video that shows that when the LinkedIn.com page is scrolled then the cursor is offset. It's very odd.

You'll see the cursor is activating the controls when it actually isn't over the control but is below the area. It's a very odd problem.

Firefox seems to issue updates that make the browser completely stop on Ubuntu 20.04 (Focal Fossa).

I am in the middle of a browsing session and suddenly I get the warning shown below on any tab I open.

I'm curious if this is happening due to changes in Firefox or if it's related to the way 20.04 handles the updates? I've never had this happen on 18.04 (Bionic Beaver), but it's happened twice now since I updated to 20.04 (the past couple of weeks).

I can't get Visual Studio Code to update on Ubuntu 20.04. I'm currently on 1.49.x of Visual Studio Code and attempting to upgrade to 1.50.x

Previously (I recently upgraded to 20.04 from 18.04) the updates were a part of the normal updates I would see along with all other updates. Now I only see the update within Visual Studio Code and I am forced to manually download it.

What I've Tried

I tried downloading the deb manually and attempted to install by double-clicking. When I did that then the Snap-Store (Ubuntu Software) would start up and show me I have Visual Studio Code 1.49.x installed but wouldn't allow me to choose the new version to update.

How can I install the update?

Update Note: This question is different than Has 'Ubuntu Software' been renamed to 'Snap Store'? because as I learned it seems that the Snap-Store has been renamed to Ubuntu Software -- the opposite of the other question. The Ubuntu Software icon shows up but the actual command that runs is snap-store (see the answer posted to this question).

I upgraded to Ubuntu 20.04 about 2 weeks ago (from 18.04). I had the Snap Store in my installation and had ran it. Today I went to run it and couldn't find it. Then learned there is Ubuntu Software app which shows my Snaps in it.

Is Ubuntu Software a complete replacement for Snap Store?

I'm a developer and I deployed my Software via SnapCraft (https://snapcraft.io/cyapass) I notice that my app shows up in Ubuntu Software:

So, does this mean I don't need the Snap Store any more? Does Ubuntu Software include everything that is deployed to Snap.io?

Also, I notice that SnapCraft is installed but when I attempt to search for it, it doesn't show up. Do you know why that might be?

Inadvertently Removed?

Was there some update that inadvertently removed the Snap Store?

Here's another part that makes it a bit confusing.
If I look in "Ubuntu Software" app I see the following are installed:

Notice that you see the icon for Snap Store, but Ubuntu Software is not shown at all.

Check this out. When you run the command:

$ snap-store

You may also see a toast / pop-up that looks like the following:

Even though you started up snap-store it says that "Ubuntu Software is ready".

I would like to add up and down arrows to my scrollbars in Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS.

If you are on any page that has a lot of length then it is impossible to grab the scrollbar thumb-wheel and move with any precision. Often I just barely move it and it moves up multiple pages.

Example 1 - Long list of email in Mozilla Thunderbird

This is especially true in Mozilla Thunderbird (for example) where I have thousands of email in my inbox. Without the arrows you literally cannot move the lines of the email precisely.

Yes, I can click in the list of email and arrow-key down but that is not convenient.

Example 2 - Long Article In Web Browser

Also, if you're reading a long article in your browser you will come up against this situation also, but even worse because arrow keys don't really work well on a text article.

Is This A Styling Thing? Can you provide the steps to adding the up/down arrows back to my scrollbars. I think this was a huge mistake in the UI to remove them.

What I've Tried?

I've installed the Tweaks program and tried various themes, but none of the default ones display up/down arrows on scrollbars. I haven't found a setting in Tweaks that changes it. If I've missed it, please point it out.
