I've already tried sudo systemd-resolve --flush-caches
but it ends up showing sudo: systemd-resolve: command not found
. So, how do I flush the DNS cache in Ubuntu 22?
Sreram's questions
The following is the message I get when trying to install anything on Ubuntu, right now.
Reading package lists... Done

You might want to run 'apt --fix-broken install' to correct these.
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
cuda-libraries-dev-10-1 : Depends: libcublas-dev (>= 10.1.0.105) but it is not going to be installed
cuda-samples-10-1 : Depends: libcublas-dev (>= 10.1.0.105) but it is not going to be installed
cuda-visual-tools-10-1 : Depends: libcublas-dev (>= 10.1.0.105) but it is not going to be installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt --fix-broken install' with no packages (or specify a solution).
I tried apt --fix-broken install
, I tried purge
, I tried sudo apt install -f
, and also sudo apt-get remove --purge '^nvidia-.*'
and I am not able to get anything done. It all fails.
I tired rebooting in recovery mode to try and uninstall the drivers.
This is my output for apt --fix-broken install
:

Can someone please help me? I've been spending hours trying to fix this. I tried installing cuda 10.1
along with an already present installation of cuda 9.1
. This turned out to be a mistake. My older cuda installation works fine, but dpkg
completely broke, and it is not working anymore.
Without uninstalling the previous version of cuda, I directly tried installing the 10.1 version (by mistake). I tried installing by following the link given here: https://developer.nvidia.com/cuda-downloads. I selected: Linux -> x86_64 -> Ubuntu -> 18.04 -> deb(network)
And I followed the instructions over there.
I am not able to install anything, because of this.
My internet connection is perfect, and I had also tried using the best mirror for downloading the updates, yet apt-get update
and apt-get upgrade
are extremely slow- it gets stuck with "reading headers".
I've also tried disabling ipv6 system wide, by following the instructions here: Apt downloads very slow . Could this signify the behavior of some kind of a malware?
Even installing packages run extremely slow (when I run them as spt-get install
). I tested out the speed with a virtual machine instance (which runs Ubuntu 16, while the system I'm talking about here runs Ubuntu 18), and the speed was fine- as usual. What could be causing this? Is it a sign of malware activity? I tried using rkhunter, and it wasn't very helpful.
The download speed usually starts of being fast, and then becomes progressively slow. Thus, when I keep cancelling the process with ctrl+c
and rerunning the process, I'm able to get it updated easily. The initially logged speed is actually fine. But for some reason, it becomes slower over time.
This is where I'm stuck right now:

And I had also checked to see if it was the issue of the server that is being connected. For that, I had tried downloading the same file from this path: es-mirrors.evowise.com/ubuntu/dists/bionic-updates/Contents-amd64.gz directly from the browser. Yes it was slow, but the speed was around 35 to 75 kbps. Not bad actually, for the 10kbps or 8kbps I get, in the terminal. Could this be caused by a malware? Or is there something broken, or some application interfering with the download process?
I'm still having this problem. The download speed goes down to a few kbps or even few bytes per second. I also tried apt-get clean
and every other solution I could find. Please tell me what should I do. Thanks!
I'm currently using Ubuntu 18.04 and Okular for viewing pdf documents. I thought it would be convenient if I could use the text to speech feature. I tried following all the instructions given here: http://freesoftwaremagazine.com/articles/listen_your_books_epub_pdf_okular/ (which was the only source I could find online) and I'm yet unable to get the text-to-speech feature working. Can you please tell me what should I do to get this working? If it is not possible because it was deprecated, can you please recommend a good alternative?
I tried opening the application from the terminal to listen to the audio. This was the output on the terminal when I selected a part of the text and clicked "Speak Text":
using null output device, none available
qt.speech.tts.flite: "Failed to start audio output (error 1)"
I had just finished upgrading, and now, when I restarted the system to complete the installation process, Ubuntu does not start.
The boot menu and GRUB work fine, leading me to the boot menu when I request it. But instead of booting, the system is stuck at a frozen light grey screen bound by a darker grey border. I tried entering recovery mode, but it doesn't work. What am I supposed to do now?
The upgrade process ended, but I remember reading a line which said that there were errors. How should I solve this problem?
By the way, I have NVIDIA drivers installed, and recently I had been experimenting with KVM virtual machines.
EDIT: I tried to follow this tutorial, which was a failed attempt at trying to transfer the GPU to a virtual machine instance that ran on KVM. Do you think I could have messed up something there?
I had recently bought a WACOM One tablet pen, and I couldn't get it to work on Ubuntu (with gnome). I had installed the driver using the command:
sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-input-wacom
The moment I had done that I restarted the system. But after booting, no input devices were working. So I had to reboot again, and go into recovery mode to reinstall all the input drivers using the command:
sudo apt-get install --reinstall xserver-xorg-input-all
Later, I was able to get the keyboard and mouse working, but I still cannot get the tablet working.
Command:
lsmod | grep wacom
Output:
wacom 106496 0

I had also tried reinstalling and restarting using the command:
sudo apt-get install --reinstall xserver-xorg-input-wacom
and it still does not work. What I am supposed to do now?
I recently got an assembled PC. The PC was not assembled in front of my eyes. And the seal for each component's (the processor, the graphics card... etc) box was not removed before me. I just gave my specifications to a 3rd party computer assembling shop and got it assembled. Now I want to know if my Intel
processor is genuine. So I tried getting the processor's serial number using the terminal (I didn't want to risk opening my PC myself).
The command I used for checking the processor's serial number:
sudo dmidecode -t system | grep Serial
The output given by the terminal was : Serial Number: System Serial Number
.
Does this signify that my processor isn't genuine (I paid for a genuine one)? Or is it just that some motherboard’s BIOS don't retrieve this information from the processor?
Or is there a better way to figure out if my processor is genuine (without disassembling the PC) ?

I just downloaded the OpenAL library using the command sudo apt-get install libopenal1 libopenal-dev
, now I can't find where the library is on my system and how should it be linked with Eclipse. I am new to Ubuntu hence I am not familiar with how Ubuntu's file system works.
Thanks in Advance.
I am quite new to Ubuntu and I find it hard to install programs/libraries. How do I install and build PortAudio in Ubuntu using the terminal?
