I have an Asus laptop with dual boot Windows 10 / Ubuntu 20.04. Fast boot is disabled on Windows.

Wifi had been working with no problems on both operating systems. But now all of sudden, it's gone on both.

On Windows, it does not detect any networking hardware. Windows Network Properties says:

How can I get the wifi back to work?

On Ubuntu 20.04, I want to switch to the workspace above by just pressing the CapsLock key. However, the following does not work:

gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings switch-to-workspace-up ['capslock']

Neither can I do it from the GUI, because in Settings, CapsLock is not recognized. But anyway, my need is to be able to do it from the command line.

How to, pls?

After formatting an empty ext4 partition with

cryptsetup --type luks2 luksFormat /dev/sda1

I can open it with

cryptsetup open --type luks /dev/sda1 MyLabel

It is visible as /dev/mapper/MyLabel.

However, when I then try to mount it with

mount -t ext4 /dev/mapper/MyLabel /mnt/MyLabel

I get this error message:

mount: /mnt/MyLabel: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/mapper/MyLabel, missing codepage or helper program, or other error.

What's wrong?

When I edit my ~/.XCompose file, I need to reboot Ubuntu 16.04 for the changes to take effect. Is there a way to tell Ubuntu to reload the definitions in the file without doing a full reboot?

Previously, I could normally record voice using Gnome Sound Recorder (GSR) version 3.18.2-1. Now, I can no longer do it. Although Ubuntu does recognize the mic, GSR doesn't record anything.

In the image below, the sound settings window is on top and GSR's window is at the bottom. It can be seen that while Ubuntu's sound sensor detects sounds from the mic (the orange bars move in response to the sound capture), GSR's sound sensor doesn't (the cyan line remains flat) and nothing is recorded.

Notice that although Ubuntu is able to detect the sound capture, it needs human intervention to begin to do it. Once I boot in, Ubuntu's sound sensor is all grayed out:

I need to manually move a bit the mic plug into the mic jack of the PC for Ubuntu to detect the mic, but as shown above, applications still don't get access to it.

If I dual boot into Windows, everything works perfectly. So, I can't figure out why Ubuntu is detecting the sound, but applications don't have access to it. And this occurred overnight. Is there any way to fix this?

On Ubuntu 16.04, running umake ide idea returns:

usage: umake ide [-h] {lighttable,visual-studio-code} ...
umake ide: error: argument framework: invalid choice: 'idea' (choose from 'lighttable', 'visual-studio-code')

Ubuntu Make is giving me only two options of IDEs to install: lighttable and visual-studio-code. But, according to the man page and https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-make, there should be many more options ("idea" among them). What's wrong?

On Ubuntu 15.10 I see in Settings / Keyboard / Shortcuts / Typing The "Compose Key" and the "Alternative Characters key". I know what the former is, but not the latter. Does it duplicate the functionality of the compose key (Ubuntu allows to set it to the same keys as the compose key)? Are there any examples of its use?

While the X2Go client (package "x2goclient") can be downloaded from the main Ubuntu repository; this is not true for the X2Go server. One needs to get it from a different repository by doing the following (according to http://wiki.x2go.org/doku.php/doc:installation:x2goserver):

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:x2go/stable
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install x2goserver x2goserver-xsession

I understand X2Go has been around for some time. How come it is not entirely available from the official repo, and the server component is available only as a PPA?
