While it's relatively straightforward to setup systemd
to start a service at a particular time, how can I also make it stop at a different time?
The idea would be to run a service overnight only, and stop it in the morning.

I'm using a AR93xx Wireless Network Adapter from Qualcomm and the wifi connection drops quite often. I also see Oct 29 12:06:29 blueberry kernel: [156556.470659] ath9k 0000:04:00.0: AMD-Vi: Event logged [IO_PAGE_FAULT domain=0x0015 address=0xbfa73844 flags=0x0000]
in logs. Is that related?

I've got my router broadcasting two wifi networks - one on 2.4GHz and one on 5GHz. Using a wifi scanner on my phone, I can see that both networks are available:
However when I scan for these endpoints on my desktop using a AR93xx Wireless Network Adapter from Qualcomm, while it is able to see the 2.4GHz network fine it cannot see the 5GHz one at all.
Why would this be so? It does see other 5Ghz networks in the area:

How can I get the Workrave indicator to show in Ubuntu 17.10? Version 1.10 supposedly has GNOME Shell support.

For some strange reason, my output sound is being piped into my input sound. That is, if I try and use my microphone, the only thing that gets recorded is what the headset is currently playing.
I've verified this using the pavucontrol application - Input devices sound bar bounces to the beat of the music.
How can I have my microphone pick up my input and not the output?
Devices as ALSA sees them - note that I've got an HDMI-connected monitor which can play output.

How can I fix this?
Ubuntu 12.04 used to have very nice transliteration support for GTK+ based apps, where right-clicking would allow you to select 'Input Methods > Cyrillic (transliteration)'. I find that much easier and nicer to use than Russian phonetic keyboards provided in 14.04 and later.
Is it possible to get transliteration back?
Appmenu in 14.04 doesn't seem to be working for GTK2 apps like Pidgin or Meld 1.3, whereas it worked fine in 13.10.
Is there a way to fix this?
Using pidgin
from the command-line or launching it via the indicator is not working. I've tried reinstalling it, but the issue persists:
$ pidgin
The program 'pidgin' is currently not installed. You can install it by typing:
sudo apt-get install pidgin
$ sudo apt-get install pidgin
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
pidgin is already the newest version.
The following package was automatically installed and is no longer required:
gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg
Use 'apt-get autoremove' to remove it.
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
How can this be fixed?
Update: removing pidgin-sipe did not help remove the diversion (see answers below). Doing sudo dpkg-divert --remove /usr/bin/pidgin
, and then reinstalling the pidgin package fixed it.
I frequently have to unlock my computer just to see what time is it right now. Since time isn't security-sensitive, how can I add it to be displayed on the unlock screen?
This is using Unity, Ubuntu's default shell.
If I publish several U1 files, delete some, add some, update their file content - will the public URLs of every file stay the same in the end, or do they change depending on the order files are published in and etc?
How can I get the public URL of a file via a command? I need to do this within a Lua script, so Python or whatever else API's are offered aren't any good.
I often connect to a network, that is open, but requires a key-pass authentication before used in a webpage. Is it possible to automate the authentication with a script?
I have a file that is tracked using bzr, and I'd like to script the creation of a diff between it's current (current as in current, not latest commited), and latest commited version that is tagged.
Does anyone know how to accomplish this? Not much of a bzr scripting or a Python expert.
Is it possible to do realtime noise-removal with PulseAudio, so the sound output that's coming out is smoother?
How can I profile what programs are making use of the HD to load after I type in my login credentials?
It's taking a bit too much time lately.
