Suppose I was told, that libx265-dev version should be ≥ 68.
I have
$ sudo apt list libx265-dev
Listing... Done
libx265-dev/bionic,now 2.6-3 amd64 [installed]
where 2.6-3 looks completely uncomparable with 68.
How to know if it is greater or not?

I am trying to upgrade from 16 LTS with a command
sudo do-release-upgrade
but it failes with
Could not calculate the upgrade

When I am pressing Alt-TAB in Ubuntu GNOME, a list of applications appears and the selected one is current one. So I need to press Alt-TAB once more to switch to previous application.
How to disable this "feature"? Is it possible to make Alt-TAB never ever show the current application selected? How to force it to select something else?

I am accessing machine via VNC.
If I press PrintScreen button, a Spectacle application starts and allows me to take screenshot with following key and mouse strokes.
Can I make it proceed immediately, without additional actions?
If Spectacle application is already started, then nothing happens on PrintScreen button.
I.e. depending on status of Spectacle application, I should either press PrintScreen or look for Spectacle application in the list of running application -- a lot of additional actions.
Can I make application activated on PrintScreen button?
Is it possible to make windows button alone to open Main menu in KDE?
If I am trying to do this with standard settings dialog, it waits for some additional key to be pressed.
In Ubuntu 16 I was able to press Shift PrintScreen and select area on the screen to screenshot it. In Ubuntu 18 when I press Shift PrintScreen the similar mouse icon appears and I also can select an area. But on finish nothing happens, no application appears to have my screenshot inside.
How to restore old functionality?
Note, that I don't want to manually start screenshot application beforehead and press GUI buttons inside it, I want to have work done on Shift PrintScreen.

I am running Windows 10 with remote desktop enabled on one machine and Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. When I am trying to open connection from Ubuntu to Windows via Remmina Remote desktop, Remmina's window minimizing as if connection will be established soon and nothing happening then.
No error message appears.

There are several answers on how to change hostname of Ubuntu, and all of them propose to do "the same changes" to /etc/hosts. "The same" stands for "the same as in /etc/hostanme". But unfotunately, these files have completely different formats, and they can't be changed in "same" manner.
So, the question is: what to write in hosts to have hostname myname?
Currently my hosts contains:
127.0.0.1 localhost
and some IPv6 stuff which I don't understand.
So, should I replace localhost with myname, really?
If I run several applications of the same name like two terminals or Remmina remote desktop, I am unable to switch between them with Alt-Tab normally anymore: similar windows are grouped within one icon and when I reach it with Alt-Tab, then random window shown. If I wait at this icon holding Alt, it starts to blink grouped windows very fast.
I would like to either disable this "feature", or learn how to handle this situation to switch to desired window.
When I am playing VLC, it is blinking. Impossible to watch.

I was upgrading Ubuntu from 14.04 LTS to 16.04.1 LTS inside Virtual Box and it killed my installation. Now I wish to reinstall Ubuntu with keeping my home directory.
Unfortunately, installer asks me for some strange choice:
It suggests several options with deletion of everything and only one option to keep my files. But this option also suggests to have TWO versions of Ubuntu installed.
What does it means? Two copies of all program and system files? Or just two kernels? I don't want two copies, I want just overwrite failed installation.
I wan't command line only server machine. So, I wish to remover GUI from server, which was installed automatically during upgrade.
Simultaneously, I don't want to remove X because I still wish to be able to run X Window applications on VNC or XServer.
How to do that?

If I am installing calibre with apt-get, it installs version 1.25
# sudo apt-show-versions calibre
calibre:all/trusty 1.25.0+dfsg-1build1 uptodate
while it's current version is 2.6.
Is it possible to install newer calibre, staying with apt-get?
I have installed mldonkey-server with
sudo apt-get install mldonkey-server
It was installed and running. Neither telnet localhost, nor web interface availabe.

Now how to check it's config? I can't find where is it. It is said in manual, that mldonkey configs are in the same place where application installed. But I don't control this place while using apt-get.
I can enter my login name in RDP since it is latin. While installing Ubuntu, I set language switch to Ctrl-Shift and it works in console.
