I have an Onkyo AV Receiver (model TX-SR707). I would like to redirect audio from my system such that it will output through the receiver - without having to hook up any wires.

Similar to how I can cast from my phone (or from Chrome on the laptop) to the Chromecast device hooked into the receiver, what combination of hardware and software would I need to be able to achieve this at a system level from my laptop (Lenovo Thinkpad t440p)?

Do I need a full-blown server hooked up to the receiver using the method described here - How do I set up live audio streams to a DLNA compliant device? - or is there a more lightweight hardware device I can use?

In an ideal world, I imagine going into Sounds Settings and selecting the receiver (or some intermediary device) as the output.

I'd guess the laptop would be in a range of 5 to 10 metres from the receiver.

I'm currently developing a plugin to compile Oracle code in my text editor. The folks that developed SQL Developer recently added a command line version sqlcl. The problem is, this a Java application - and firing this up (jvm) each time I need to do a compilation can be expensive - with some reports of it taking ~20 seconds.

One suggestion I've seen was to use a named pipe, which if I do so manually, appears to work well.

Terminal 1:

mkfifo sqlconsole
tail -f sqlconsole | /opt/sqlcl/bin/sql /nolog

Terminal 2:

echo "conn hr/[email protected]/xe" > sqlconsole

And the statements are run successfully.

The issue with this though, is that in terminal 2, I'm not getting any of the output from terminal 1 (which I want).

I found this article about reading output from a named pipe, however even with that, the output from sqlcl is not re-directed (and, as writing this up, seems to have broken input)

I am running on Ubuntu 14.04 x64, and I've just installed FontAwesome - firstly by running install on the ttf file, which I grabbed from http://fortawesome.github.io/Font-Awesome/; and secondly by discovering it's in the repo and running:

sudo apt-get install fonts-font-awesome

Opening the font viewer I can see the fonts:

However, when I open the character map, I don't see them:

Should I be selecting any particular Script? I skimmed down the list to see if I can get to see the FontAwesome icons, but nothing jumped out at me.

What I am after is to find the unicode character code for particular icons. I know FontAwesome has a cheat sheet with the unicode's: https://fortawesome.github.io/Font-Awesome/cheatsheet/, however, I'd like to be able to determine the codes from my system.

Another example is font-mfizz, which doesn't offer a similar cheat sheet (at least from what I can tell). I did however find that submitting the woff font - https://raw.githubusercontent.com/DanBrooker/file-icons/master/resources/fonts/font-mfizz.woff - to the site http://www.pkmurphy.com.au/glyphviewer is able to print out the code points:

I have seen the tutorial for the mobile platform on the Ubuntu developer site, but I am completely new to the Qt stack. Are there any other good resources for getting started with Qt/QML/Qt Quick?

I have a Sony Vaio laptop, that came pre-installed with Windows 7. I resized the windows partition, then set up a dual boot scenario with Ubuntu.

I've noticed that when I run Windows and put the computer to sleep (i.e. shut the lid), and later resume it will sometimes show the grub menu. If I select the Windows 7 entry, it will resume as expected. If I select Ubuntu, then later restart, then select Windows, Windows will again resume from the last state.

The behaviour seems to be based on the amount of time it has been inactive. For example, if I shut the lid and the re-open straight away, it will return to Windows. On the other hand, if I shut the lid and come back some hours later, grub will be displayed.

On the other hand, with I put Ubuntu to sleep, it will always just go straight to Ubuntu.

• Is the behaviour I experience when running Windows - displaying grub, re-producible when running Ubuntu?
• Why does this occur on Windows?
• Can I disable the behaviour from Windows, or is it out of my control?
• How and where is the state saved - can I remove the state without rebooting back into windows and doing a hard reset, so that I can mount the disk?

I created an Ubuntu application with Quickly, and I can see an XML file in the folder data/glib-2.0 of my project root and I am not exactly sure what this is for. The XML looks like this:

Furthermore, in the default preferences dialog code that is created with a new application, I can see the following code:

and I am not sure what this is doing.

Are there any sort of configuration options for specifying the default save location for gnome-screenshot, or is this hard-coded into the source code?

It used to be ~/Desktop, which seems to have changed to ~/Pictures (in 12.04).

The only possible solution I've seen is about Setting the default name (as it includes time stamp information now instead of simply 'Screenshot#'), but that solution doesn't really seem ideal to me.

Also, this post suggested that the last save location is remembered the next time you take a screenshot, but in my experience, this doesn't seem to be the case. And in any case, following on from that, that entry in gconf-editor doesn't even seem to accurately reflect the last location, so more than likely an entry related to an older version of gnome-screenshot.
