My default Python installation is from pip which is at 2.7.10. apt-get has already Python 2.7.13 installed. I don't want to keep both installations because it's confusing, and I would prefer to keep the apt-get one because I'm more familiar with it. Can pip use the Python installation from apt-get?
Trying to uninstall pip Python, I get:

pedro@gordo-002528460857:~$ pip uninstall python
Cannot uninstall 'Python'. It is a distutils installed project and thus we cannot accurately determine which files belong to it which would lead to only a partial uninstall.

What's the best way to work this out?
If you have any better advice, I'm happy to take it because I don't work regularly with Python, so I don't know the best practices here.

I have installed Ubuntu 18.04 on a Surface Book with dual boot, and I can't get the ethernet connection to work. Although the wifi connects, I keep getting the "activation of network connection failed" error for the ethernet.

I have Python 2.7.12 installed, and I need to downgrade to 2.7.10 due to this issue while running Cassandra.

I don't want to have two Python installations side-by-side as a lot of answers in this forum suggest. I want to eradicate 2.7.12 from the system and a clean installation of 2.7.10.

What's the best way of doing this?

I'm running Ubuntu 16.04.

I created an RSA key pair, and during the process, I got the message:

Enter file in which to save the key (/home/pedro/.ssh/id_rsa):

So I supposed that after giving it a name, it would store the key in the .ssh folder. However, the only thing inside the .ssh folder is the known_hosts and my key got stored in home. Did I misunderstand how this process works?

When I used Unity, I remember seeing the setting for the Sticky Edges in Settings -> Displays, but I can't find that option in Gnome. Where can I turn on/off Sticky Edges in Gnome?

I'm having the issue in this post. Looking at the accepted solution, it says:

Check on Launchpad whether version 1.3.4 (Yakkety) or 1.2.19 (Xenial) was made available for your Ubuntu release.

Looking at Xenial releases, it has:

• 1.2.19
• 1.2.15ubuntu0.2
• 1.2.20
• 1.2.15ubuntu0.2

I would assume that because 1.2.19 doesn't have "ubuntu" appended, that the release is not compatible, but because 1.2.20 also doesn't have anything appended, I'm not sure what this means. What's the correct way of checking if a software version in Launchpad is compatible with my Ubuntu version (16.04)?

I'm configuring remote desktop access to my Ubuntu following this tutorial. However, after testing the connection, it doesn't work. I imagine it's because I never setup an external IP for my Ubuntu machine. :)

I don't have experience in this area, so I was looking to this article on how to setup an external IP address. But before I go ahead, a couple of questions. Is an external IP address, what I should be looking for? And do I need to have any security concerns by creating one?

I have Ubuntu 14.04, and I'm trying to install wine:i386 to use PlayOnLinux, following this article. However, when I run:

sudo echo "foreign-i386 architecture"> /etc/dpkg/dpkg.cfg.d/multiarch

I get this error /etc/dpkg/dpkg.cfg.d/multiarch: Permission denied

Being still new to Ubuntu I don't know how safe it is (or advisable) to manually change permissions to overcome this. What should I do to solve this?

EDIT The main objective of this question is to install Wine, not the syntax itself (although the syntax was the problem), the accepted answer provided a better way of solving this.

EDIT: Although not a perfect solution as he wifi still breaks some times, the suggestion in the comments of the accepted answer to use v 14 of the firmware, really improved the wifi connection! Now whenever it fails I just use sudo service network-manager restart and everything is back to normal!
