Sorry if it's a stupid question. I would like to free up some space and /var/log is full of logs. I do not intend to use any of the log files, so I don't care if they get deleted or not. But I afraid that it may affect the functionality of the services that produce logs. I understand that it may depend on the program that produces the logs. but Do you think it would be safe to remove regular services and system log such as:

auth.log
boot.log                 
mail.log     
syslog
dmesg
dpkg
faillog
fontconfig.log

I installed ansible from its installation guide, but it creates a .ansible folder in the home directory of my user and when I would like to run a simple test command I give this error: 

[ERROR]: Unable to set correct type for configuration entry for DEFAULT_LOCAL_TMP: Unable to
create local directories(/home/myuser/.ansible/tmp): [Errno 13] Permission denied:
'/home/myuser/.ansible/tmp'

ERROR! Invalid configuration settings

How I can fix this?

I'm using OpenVZ to create containers and it creates a folder for each container to store its files. I stopped the creation of a container before it gets completed, so it created a folder for that container, but when I try to remove that folder using rm -rf, I get the 'Device or resource busy' error, but when I do 'lsof <container folder>' or 'fuser <container folder>', it returns nothing, even when I do umount <container folder> nothing happens. So I'm not sure which process or device is using it. How can I remove this folder?

I don't understand how this solution worked for everybody who wanted to mount a volume as a read-only directory using sshfs. Everyone suggest using the 'ro' option. I did that, but the files in the mounted volume are still writeable. Why it doesn't work for me? 

sshfs -p 2221 -o ro,idmap=user,reconnect,dev,IdentityFile=/home/user/.ssh/volume_key,Ciphers=arcfour  myuser@XXXXXX://base-dir/  mountpoint/

The permission of the folder on the remote volume is 777, the permissions of the local folder are 755, the user on my local machine and the remote machine are the same and the user:group on the local folder is myuser:myuser, after mounting it becomes 1027:users. So mounting the folder changes both the permissions and the owners of the folder, no matter if I use 'ro' or not.

I would like to change the suffix of mail.log rotated files to include the date, such as 

/var/log/mail.log.20180920

I read from this question that /etc/cron.weekly/sysklogd should be changed, but I don't have such a file. I would like to rewrite the defaults, however, it is mentioned in this post to write a new config for that. So I found that because this log file is created by syslog, it's listed in the /etc/logrotate.d/rsyslog, so I changed this file to the following to include the date suffix:

I also delete the entries for rsyslog and mail.log from /var/lib/logrotate/status to force the log to rotate for today, then I run : logrotate /etc/logrotate.conf --debug, but in the output I get: 

rotating pattern: 
/var/log/mail.log
 hourly (400 rotations)
empty log files are not rotated, old logs are removed
switching euid to 0 and egid to 104
considering log /var/log/mail.log
  log does not need rotating

so, I do logrotate -f /etc/logrotate.conf to force it to rotate the log, the entries in the /var/lib/logrotate/status gets updated. The file /var/log/maill.log is generated, but what I expect is to see a mail.log.20181020 file, why it does not generate that?

I can ssh to the server, but sshfs fails with the

read: Connection reset by peer

error. I have checked all the cases pointed out in this AskUbuntu question, the user is in the fuse group, allow_other is correct, the permissions of /etc/fuse.conf are correct.

I use allow_other and idmap options, but I cannot do sshfs while the server allows me to do ssh, but not sshfs and the debug mode says 

no matching cipher found: client arcfour server aes128-ctr,aes192-ctr,aes256-ctr,[email protected],[email protected],[email protected]

The server is a Netgear NAS and the user is in the admin group, sftp is also enabled and works.
