When you right-click on an empty space, there's the option to create a new folder. Old versions of Ubuntu used to include the option to create a new text document as well, but now you need to enable this manually by creating a file in ~/Templates.

However, this way the document will always have a pre-set name, so that you need to right-click it again and rename it.

Is it possible to restore the original way it was, i.e. you chose the name just after you clicked "New Document", exactly like the "New Folder" button?

Instead of the purple GRUB screen, everything I see when I try to boot is this. How to fix this?

Edit: Yes, I have multiple partitions. I recently tried to expand the size of the partition in which Ubuntu is installed (using GParted), but I cancelled the operation in the middle of the process because it was taking too long. When I tried to log in again, a message of error appeared. I then searched the web for a solution and I found a couple of terminal commands to reinstall GRUB. The result was this same screen below.

I just reinstalled Ubuntu and I'm having some problems with the mouse and the keyboard that I can't solve.

• Prior to reinstalling the system, if I held any key, the system would repeat it infinitely (for example, I could erase an entire line just by holding backspace). Now it's not working and setting the keyboard settings to "key presses repeat when key is held down" won't help -- it only makes the key repeat for a short time - it then automatically stops working while I'm still holding the key.

• The mouse is having a similar problem. Before reinstalling, I could could select an entire area of the desktop for how much time I could. Now if I try to do this, the mouse fails and the selection disappears when I'm holding the left button.

Both these features were very useful to me and I can't find any way to bring them back. Can any of you help me?

I'm frequently getting this update error icon on the upper bar.

Well, this error by itself is annoying, but I always solve it by running the Software Updater and installing the pending updates. But this time it simply didn't work. The updater shows the following error message instead:

Relaunching it as the message suggests won't work. I've also tried to update by the terminal, but it displays the following error:

The error icon is still there and the updater keeps showing the same error message. I've also tried the following commands (which other people suggested on other questions to fix this problem):

sudo dpkg --configure -a 
sudo apt-get install -f

and

sudo sed -i.bak '1d' /etc/apt/sources.list.d/mono-xamarin.list
sudo apt-get autoremove
sudo apt-get update

Neither of these work either.

How could I fix this? Thanks.

Edit: I tried to mark the option "Ignore future problems of this program version" and now the Software Update won't even run! What should I do?

I use Ubuntu 16.04 and I would like to play the free game Paladins: Champions of the Realm using Wine and PlayonLinux. According to this, Wine should run it well in the said version, but it is not working for me.

I've successfully configured Wine and installed the game. After the installation the launcher started the game automatically. But after I closed it for the first time, there is no way I can run it again.

Wine created two launcher shortcuts in the desktop, plus the Hi-Rez (the game's company) launcher. The automatically created launchers are unfunctional, and the one Wine asked to be created manually displays the error message "Failed to initialize assembly file" (I googled it, but I found no solution). Trying to launch these files in their directories doesn't make any difference.

After watching some tutorials I was able to at least launch the game for the first time as I said, but this error makes the game unplayable. Do any of you are aware of a possible solution? Thanks.

Remark: Paladins is not a listed software, so I'm not using the Steam version.

I have divided my 1000 GB or so hard drive into two parts, in order to install Ubuntu. However, System Monitor for some reason says I can only use 202 GB (and not about 500 GB as I would expect). The rest seems to be distributed somewhere else (like the image below).

I do not understand why it happens, but I just deleted my old Windows partition using the Live USB, and I want to relocate all the remaining space to Ubuntu, in order to use all of my hard drive there. How can I do this in GParted?

I use Ubuntu 16.04 LTS; I'm new to Linux. I've installed Genymotion a long time ago together with Virtual Box, in order to run an Android emulation on my desktop. Now, I decided to remove them. I successfully uninstalled Virtual Box, but Genymotion is still there no matter what I try to get rid of it.

The software created three items which remain in my desktop: 'genymotion-log.zip', 'genymotion-2.7.2-linux_x64.bin' and a folder called 'genymotion', full of files and subfolders.

None of the commands below work. The terminal says the directory or package can't be find or that the command is invalid.

(sudo) apt-get --purge remove genymotion

(sudo) ./genymotion-2.7.2_x64.bin --uninstall

(sudo) ./genymotion-2.7.2-linux_x64.bin --uninstall

/home/egavs/Desktop/genymotion-2.7.2-linux_x64.bin --uninstall

(egavs in my Ubuntu username)

Also, Genymotion is absent on Ubuntu Software Center. If I type 'genymotion' in the Ubuntu search and right-click its icon, there is an option to launch it, but no other to remove it. But Genymotion can't be launched, since it depends on Virtual Box.

Genymotion's icons and folders are still there and nothing I try is removing them. Is there any way to do it? Thank you.

My Steam have apparently become completely unfunctional: If I try to open it, the icon flashes for a few seconds and nothing happens afterwards. If I try to uninstall it (Ubuntu Icon >> Search for 'Steam' >> Right button >> Uninstall), there are also no results.

I'm very new to Ubuntu and I've recently upgraded it to the last version expecting it was the right thing to do, but I don't know if it was really. Do any of you guys know how to fix this?

I've tried typing 'steam' on the terminal. A bunch of messages then appeared and it upgraded Steam (I think) and opened it. I closed everything and restarted the computer. Now I can open Steam, but every time I do so a warning pops up saying:

When I press Enter, the message closes. Steam is a bit slow and sometimes it not even connects to the network. Also, I still can't uninstall it in the way I first tried. Nothing shows up when I type lspci | grep VGA in the terminal. When I type 'steam' on the terminal now, Steam opens and the following appears (SPM is my computer's name):
